magus the great

I wanna start watching ancient magnum bride but what te heck is it about??????

The OVAs we have so far (two parts out of three) are a companion story to the manga and don’t really follow the main plot (there will be a full anime series coming this fall!).

The manga is about Chise, a gal with some special abilities bought by this fella Elias, a non-human magus/mage, who intends to teach Chise magic, keep her alive (people with her abilities tend to burn out and die young!), and eventually make her his bride.

This might be throwing up all kinds of Wow Unhealthy red flags for you. But the writing is handled fantastically and this odd situation that could have easily turned into one of your standard Weird Gross Anime IPs is instead something super cool and awesome. First off, Elias not being human and not understanding how humans work is a HUGE part of his character and development. Secondly, all Elias’ human pals are immediately like Elias What The Fuck You Can’t Buy People Because We Said You Need An Apprentice, Chise Here Is My Number If You Need Help Don’t Hesitate To Call. And thirdly, Chise seems cool with all of this and agrees to teach Elias How To Human better while he teaches her magic and the whole bride thing is hardly ever mentioned again (a couple other characters mention it, Chise occasionally remembers the proposal and wonders about it, but Elias has never mentioned it since the first couple chapters?).

Over time, the manga delves into things like “Why the fuck does Chise seem cool with this?”, “Chise why are you doing that stop?”, “Both of y’all have an unhealthy attachment to each other please get out of the house sometimes”, “Elias why are you acting like a pouting baby?”, “Elias, no you can’t control everything all the time.”, “By the way, what the fuck are you?” Also this one dude is trying to fuck everything up and there’s all these other ppl who want Chise for shit.

In short (lil too late for short lol), its about two emotionally stunted, lost, and confused people living on the outskirts of their respective societies, slowly realizing things about themselves and working past their flaws and figuring themselves out. And as they grow as people, they grow together as closer companions. Though framed as a romance, that’s really not the focus of it. The focus is more about them becoming healthy and good people. The growth feels natural and appropriate, and I love that.

Also LOTS OF COOL MYTHOLOGY SHIT HELL YEAH. YAMAZAKI KORE DID HER DAMNED RESEARCH OK. If NONE of what i just said grabs you then you could read for the mythological shit alone. It’s great.
I think that’s it. Other fans feel free to add to this,,,

You can read it here (which has a nice description itself)
And the OVA bits are on crunchyroll

Hope you check it out!

Elias found a little friend~

Got my Elias nendoroid a little while ago and have been meaning to take some pics with it. Unfortunately an annoying cold made cosplay less than ideal so it had to wait. But now the cold is gone and after seeing the new preview for the MahouYome TV anime airing in October it seemed like the perfect time to bring Elias out to meet his little buddy :)

Inktober - day 9 // Chise and Elias! Ancient Magus Bride is actually one of my favourite mangas but it’s kinda sad that only 5 volumes are out in Poland so I won’t catch up anytime soon xd

In honor of the anime’s first episode!

  • Magus: There's gotta be a food court in this city, right?
  • DM: Yes, there's a group of restaurants you could call a food court.
  • Magus: Great. Where do you guys wanna eat? Wait, fuck, is there a Panda Express? In this medieval flying fantasy city is there a Panda Express??"
  • DM: *long sigh* There's a food cart selling rice and noodles. It's called "Eastern-Bear Carriage."
  • Druid: Are you shitting me
  • Magus: Does this "Eastern-Bear Carriage" have orange chicken?
  • DM: Sure.
  • Gunslinger: I hate all of you
How and in what manner does God fashion man? In the Garden. We must view the womb as a garden, the cave Scripture is talking about when it says, “It was you who formed my inner parts, you who knitted me together in my mother’s womb… my frame was not unknown to you when I was being made in secret, intricately crafted in the caverns of the earth. This is why he chose this metaphor. So when he speaks of the Garden, Moses referred allegorically to the womb.
And if God fashions man in his mother’s womb, that is, the Garden, as I have said, not only must the womb be understood for the Garden, but Eden is to be understood as the area around the womb and the “river going out of Eden to water the Garden” as the umbilical cord.

Like seriously, as The Ancient Magus’ Bride gains more popularity, we will be seeing more and more art reposters and we need to shut that down now.

How to spot a reposter:

  • No source and the blog clearly isn’t the artist’s
  • Captions like “Not mine” or “Credit to the artist”
  • Sources linking back to common art reposting sites like zerochan, weheartit, etc. rather than actually linking back and properly crediting the actual artist.

If you see a reposter:

  • Do not reblog or like the post! This encourages reposters to continue what they are doing while simultaneously discourages the original artist. There have been way too many times where I have seen a reposter get more notes than the original artist and as an artist myself, it is a tiring thing. If you can find the original art post on tumblr, reblog from that instead.
  • If you can find the artist, notify them (Usually using google image’s “image drop search” can take you to the original artist quite quickly)
  • Report the post

Also some links that go into detail on why reposting artwork is overall a shitty idea that can harm artists:

I really enjoy this fandom so let’s not continue on the path of reposting other people’s art pretty please. Give credit to where it needs to be given.

what is this anime???

It’s The Ancient Magus Bride! The anime starts next Saturday (already Sunday in Japan), and it’s based on a manga. The story is really good and WIT STUDIO are animating it so it’s going to look amazing, I’m very excited about it :P

But I’ll leave you here the latest trailer and the synopsis that explains things better than me lol xD.

Chise Hatori has lived a life full of neglect and abuse, devoid of anything resembling love. Far from the warmth of family, she has had her share of troubles and pitfalls. Just when all hope seems lost, a fateful encounter awaits her. When a man with the head of a beast, wielding strange powers, obtains her through a slave auction, Chise’s life will never be the same again.

The man is a “magus,” a sorcerer of great power, who decides to free Chise from the bonds of captivity. The magus then makes a bold statement: Chise will become his apprentice - and his bride.

Vampire 🦇

Vampire- How humanoid do you like your monsters, if at all humanoid?

As much as I love bizarre/eldritch/alien monster design (as evidenced in @illytar‘s tumblr), some of my favorite monsters are very humanoid!

Sensei of Totsukuni no Shōjo (The Girl from the Outside) and Elias Ainsworth of Mahō Tsukai no Yome (The Ancient Magus’ Bride) are great examples.

YES indeed.

I may have a type, and that type is apparently gentleman monsters.

Here’s something I have a lot of fun working on! Meet Kiyomi Fujimaru, the protagonist of Fate/Bonds of Love! It’s an otome game that takes place after Fate/Grand Order. ( Also, big shout-out to @braveassassins for helping me with this!) (I’ll be posting her bio really soon)
💖 The daughter of Mashu Kyrielight and Ritsuka Fujimaru (the female one, not the male). She dreams of becoming a great magus, one worthy of great things and praise.
💖 So she tries to summon her own servant, however the servant in question is Cupid of Greek Mythology in the Archer class. He is (at first) a terribly weak servant. It seems hopeless but there was a catch. Cupid’s power stem from love, wether it was romantic, platonic, or familial. So the more love surrounding his Master, the more stronger Cupid becomes.
💖 The goal of the game is to romance the different servants in order to get Cupid stronger. Who you want to romance and how many is up to you. You can choose to either go the romantic or the platonic route. There’s some exceptions to this (such as Jack the Ripper’s route will be purely familial and most of the child servant routes are strictly platonic) but you are free to choose.
