magnetic storms

Our sun is dynamic and ever-changing. On Friday, July 14, a solar flare and a coronal mass ejection erupted from the same, large active region. The coils arcing over this active region are particles spiraling along magnetic field lines.

Solar flares are explosions on the sun that send energy, light and high-speed particles into space. Such flares are often associated with solar magnetic storms known as coronal mass ejections. While these are the most common solar events, the sun can also emit streams of very fast protons – known as solar energetic particle (SEP) events – and disturbances in the solar wind known as corotating interaction regions (CIRs).

This splendid phenomenon recalls our hypothesis according to which sun-spots sometimes send out into space long pencils of cathode-rays.

1980. Animal Magnetism

is the seventh album by band Scorpions, released in 31 March.

The album cover was created by Storm Thorgerson of the design firm Hipgnosis and, as with earlier Scorpions album sleeves, courted controversy. However, unlike several of their previous album sleeves the controversy did not result in the cover being replaced with an alternate sleeve. Recalling the cover photo, Thorgerson remarked, “That one was funny. I don’t think we figured it out. We just knew there was something rude somewhere.

The cover of the album insinuates sex and that is what this album delivers. A strong heavy metal album with sexual overtones and in your face ball wagging by the greatest sexmetal band ever! Overall,a classic metal album that should definitely be part of your music!

[ Cassian Week ] - Day 3 - favourite relationship(s)

I would fight to the death for every single Rogue One character, but I still have the dorkiest soft-spot for Cassian & K-2SO, best friends forever. :’)

I have settled into
Modest expectations,
I’ve tucked away those
Dreams into downy nests.

I’ll never be the solar system
To an orbiting moon or a
Bottomless lake to
Someone dying of thirst.

No electric storm,
Magnetic fields
Endless, tearing
Helpless need.

I’ll never be the fire
In a midnight forest,
The flowers in
Some fallow field.

But I hope to be
Tender with the
Wounded, and
Hopeful for the lost.

UUUUUUHM for the RebelCaptain prompts: skylines

So, confession time: I have approximately ten million AUs that I haven’t talked about online, and this is one of them. Mass Effect 2 AU. Credit to @turiantea for building this with me! They’re my primary bouncer for rebelcaptain AUs and anything good about this comes from them.

They’d both known, from the moment they’d left the Normandy, that the magnetic field on Altus 9 was going to disrupt communications entirely, but it’s still disconcerting to have K’s voice stutter and static and go out like a light the moment they hit atmo.

“Well,” says Jyn, staring at the console. Bodhi’s piloting, and through the shield, Altus 9 stretches out like a field of violet glass, reflective, slippery, deadly. “That’s it, then.”

Cassian doesn’t say anything.

“I’ve marked the coordinates for pickup on your omnitools,” says Bodhi. “They should be able to work okay without–without too many problems from the field, I think, me and K did a lot of work on them. But they can’t–they can’t transmit anything to and from the ship. We’re going to lose all–all contact with you until pickup. So, y’know.”

“If we get eaten by husks,” says Jyn, and pops the latch on her seatbelt, “nothing you can do.”

Bodhi grimaces.

“Twenty-four hours,” says Cassian, and Jyn flinches the way she has for three weeks, every time he’s opened his mouth. Jyn doesn’t flinch like other people, really. She doesn’t flicker back or stiffen or look like she’s about to be struck. She sets her teeth to lean into the strike, instead. There’s always a faint whirring from her implants, too, like they’re about to overheat. “See you then.”

“Yeah,” says Bodhi, and then Cassian follows Jyn out the side of the shuttle, catching himself with one hand on the hard ground.

“ Making Weather” by Rrichard Clarkson Studio & Crealev.

‘floating’, is made of white hand fluffed polyester fibers that give each cloud a unique shape and has magnets embedded in both the reflective oval base and the body of the cloud.

The powerful magnets allow the speaker to float 1 to 2 inches off the base and lets the speaker softly bob and rotate to create an effect similar to that of clouds floating outside.

The speaker connects via Bluetooth to allow wireless streaming, and just like previous versions of the speaker, uses sound reactive LED lights to create music reactions like thunder and lightning depending on what’s happening in the music.

The Treasure Planet: “Based on the famous novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. The classic novel has been moved into the space age. The hero, a boy named Philip, discovers a star map inside the luggage of a deceased astronaut and subsequently finds himself pursued by a group of greedy and ruthless space pirates. His planet is barren: most plants and animals have disappeared. Young astronaut Philip sets off to follow the star map to the position of a precious treasure. During his voyage aboard Captain Smollett’s spaceship, he struggles with the nefarious plots of John Supersilver and the other space pirates. Overcoming magnetic storms and holes in the space/time continuum, the spaceship lands on the Treasure Planet. Philip and Captain Smollett defeat extraterrestrial monsters and escape gigantic laser traps in pursuit of their treasure. Philip discovers the "treasure” they sought is the cause for the plants and animals disappearance. Philip destroys the treasure, causing flower and baobab seeds to disperse. Then zebras, hippos, rabbits, cows, and even Mickey Mouse himself descend from the sky by parachute, repopulating the planet.“

July 14 Solar Flare and a Coronal Mass Ejection

A medium-sized (M2) solar flare and a coronal mass ejection (CME) erupted from the same, large active region of the sun on July 14, 2017. The flare lasted almost two hours, quite a long duration. The coils arcing over this active region are particles spiraling along magnetic field lines, which were reorganizing themselves after the magnetic field was disrupted by the blast. Images were taken in a wavelength of extreme ultraviolet light.

Solar flares are giant explosions on the sunthat send energy, light and high speed particles into space. These flares are often associated with solar magnetic storms known as coronal mass ejections (CMEs). While these are the most common solar events, the sun can also emit streams of very fast protons – known as solar energetic particle (SEP) events – and disturbances in the solar wind known as corotating interaction regions (CIRs).

The Solar Dynamics Observatory is managed by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Maryland, for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate, Washington. Its Atmosphere Imaging Assembly was built by the Lockheed Martin Solar Astrophysics Laboratory (LMSAL), Palo Alto, California.

Gwen’s special subtle Aura of Fuck-Off. I have been thinking about auras, and while the positive and helpful ones fill my heart with warmth, I also keep thinking that such auras could be also used to repel unwanted company when you don’t feel like being polite but still have to be polite enough to not look like you’re avoiding everyone or just telling them to piss off. ^u^

It’s just something so very Gwen somehow. xD (Don’t tell Josie - she’ll figure it out eventually and won’t know what to do with this information about her girlfriend/wife.) How does it work? Dunno! :D Customizable electro-magnetic fields for a storm mage like Gwen? Entropy? Go figure. ^u^

What X-Men: Apocalypse really needed is a scene where Apocalypse goes “Now face the wrath of the strongest mutants among you: My four Horsemen!”

And furious whispering breaks out from behind him: “We’re the what now?”

“Did he forget to bring the horses? WAS I SUPPOSED TO BRING THE HORSES????”

“No, it’s a metaphor. A Christian concept I think.”

 “I’m Jewish!”

“Well I’m Muslim and also a child!”

“No no, we can figure it out–Our mutant powers represent each horseman, right?”

“Oh, then the horsemen are named, let’s see…Wings, Energy Whip, Storm, and Magnets.”

“Good job guys, we solved this whole mystery. Now just wait for him to call our names and then we can break shit”

An illustration for “K.I.A”, the kylux story that I will never write.

Have a short synopsis:

After the events of Starkiller base,  Hux is court-martialed by High Command but manage to keep his rank with Kylo Ren defending him. Kylo feels indebted toward General Hux and the two have a short bonding moment during the days of the trial, before the knight leave for his training.

6 months later, Kylo is informed by Snoke that the Finalizer has been sunken by the Resistance. All the members of the crew are declared killed in action and Kylo swear to show no mercy to the Resistance in memory of the fallen Starkiller.

After leading more or less succesful battles with the help of High Command, Kylo ends up on the trail of a group of smugglers due to their suspect activity around a giant moon composed of icy oceans and undergoing powerful magnetic storms really often, storms that can destabilize the navigations intruments of ships within the atmosphere.

Kylo manage to get a smuggler to transport him to this client that he suspect to be a part of a hidden Resistance group. But he instead discovers the Finalizer and her crew hiding underwater and using icebergs as a cover and meet a scarred and limping but alive General Hux.

Kylo ask for explanations and discovers that some members of High command conspired against him after his trial and shoot down the Finalizer in the middle of a battle against the Resistance, leaving the ship crashing on the moon and accusing the Resistance for it, using their “deaths” has a way to fuel the hate of the First Order army against the Resistance.

Despite the heavy losses, a shaken and lost General Hux manage for the Finalizer and her crew to escape death, trying to get the ship repaired and in hiding while looking for solutions.

I don't know what the deal is with black superheroes and electric powers

There are so many, Black Lightning, Storm, Black Vulcan, Thunder, Lightning, Static; its an odd theme. And it is not like they all have uniform powers; for instance Static has electro magnetism while Storm is weather control. Heck in my own original fiction there one of the first vigilantes was a black lesbian who used her knowledge as an electrician to create electrifying armor and punches. So I don’t think they are archetypes of a classic hero, given how different they can be. I don’t think it’s got racist connotations, but I am white so I am probably wrong. (Which is why to be on the safe side I haven’t used that vigilante I invented in a while)

I don’t know, just babbling because I am currently excited for the
Black Lightning show. Not really have a point though. @renaroo @majingojira you are much better at comic fu than me, do you know folks have any idea about this trend? (I am sorry if this starts discourse, I’m just interested in your knowledge)

Astrology
  • In 1798, Goethe wrote that astrology is connected with the true sense of poetry, or “some vast cosmic unity.” He believed that the “heavenly bodies” had a great and decisive influence on the weather and plant life.

  • Astrology was practiced as a noble art among scholarly men during the Renaissance, and was even offered at college alongside art, science, theology, poetry, architecture, business and politics. It was considered a “highly intellectual pursuit,” and students had to learn to read Latin, Greek and sometimes a third language to interpret charts; they also had to know math well to chart the positions of the planets.

  • In America, founding fathers George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin all had personal astrologers.

  • Famed financier J.P. Morgan was advised on many business decisions by astrologers, and even Einstein said he believed in the “cosmic religious sense” underlying all scientific research.

  • Dr. Carl G. Jung (1875-1961) studied astrology as an ancient art and believed in intuition and archetypes. He created natal charts for 400 married couples in an experiment, concentrating on the placement of the sun and moon for the husbands and wives. He found the most frequent combinations were the husbands’ and wives’ moon in the same sign (conjunction). Jung recognized the numerous parallels between psychology and astrology, and even employed professional astrologers to draw up charts to help diagnose his patients’ basic characteristics.

  • Statistics and studies show that after a solar flare, road accidents increase sometimes as much as four times the average. This indicates the direct influence the Sun has on our lives.

  • It is now an accepted fact that the planets are all magnetically and electrically charged. Jupiter and the earth, at least, are known to emit radio waves.

  • John F. Kennedy was warned by a handful of astrologers and psychics of the dangers of his assassination.

  • Renown astrologer William Lilly accurately predicted both the Plague and the Great Fire that devastated London in 1665 and 1666.

  • In 1932, electrical engineer John H. Nelson found that radio disturbances were caused by magnetic storms when two or more planets were in conjunction, or in a 90 degree or 180 degree angle to the Sun. This allowed scientists to predict radio disturbances within 93 percent accuracy from the positions of these planets.

  • Dr. Rudolf Tomaschek, a physicist and astrologer, studied 134 major earthquakes and found that the positions of planets Uranus, Pluto and Jupiter played a role in these natural disasters.

  • Czech psychiatrist Dr. Eugene Jonas has found that the moon affects a mature woman’s ability to conceive, the sex of the child, and the viability of the embryo.

  • In his studies of the mentally ill, Dr. Leonard J. Ravitz of Duke University discovered marked changes coinciding with the phases of the moon in both normal and insane people. The more disturbed the patients were, the more the moon affected them. This especially showed on the night of a full moon–the fuller the moon, the more unrest among the insane.
