Thirteen Reasons Why - Explained

Thirteen Reasons Why

I’ve seen a lot of posts about Hannah being a ‘drama queen’ or overreacting to small things everyone did so I thought I’d explain a bit about what I understood.

1. Justin - Justin exaggerated what he and Hannah did. While this seems mild, it set Hannah up for a terrible high school career because she earned the reputation of 'slut’. This happens so often in schools and in the adult world and can RUIN someone’s life in a certain, if not all areas.

2. Alex - Alex put Hannah as having the best ass against Jessica as the worst. It is clear that the internet is doing its thing again and not taking time to understand things properly; this was NOT A COMPLIMENT AND HANNAH HAD EVERY RIGHT TO BE ANGRY. It was a clear violation of friendship and an obvious example of men pitting women against each other for their own benefit.

3. Jessica - I’m going more by the book here, but Jessica was on the tapes because she didn’t believe Hannah and abandoned her when she needed her. A clear example of how people can easily be lead by others and girls turning on each other because of guys. Jessica deserved to be on the tapes because she didn’t hear Hannah’s side of the story and instead took her anger out on her first friend at the school.

4. Tyler - I don’t think I need to explain much about this, but he abused his position as a photographer in school to violate boundaries for his own pleasure similar to how a lot of people in a power exploit those below them. He made Hannah feel vulnerable and took the lack of comfort she felt at school to her own bedroom.

5. Courtney - I suppose this is kind of harder to understand. Courtney was a closeted lesbian and therefore it is understandable that she was upset at the thought of her being outed before she was ready, but Hannah confided in her to help her expose someone else and instead she protected herself by further ruining Hannah. This shows the selfishness of those who feel the need to protect themselves by harming others.

6. Marcus - I haven’t seen much on Marcus honestly, but I dislike him immensely. He took advantage of Hannah because of the impression of her he had put together from rumours created by other reasons (Justin, Courtney) which is an expression of how men feel owed something from women, especially those who are seen as 'slutty’.

7. Zach - At first glance, Zach doesn’t seem too bad. At half a second glimpse, this changes. Hannah rejected him because he said something silly, a mistake, and if he had made an obvious effort to explain and apologise, he could have helped Hannah. Instead, he chooses to punish her by preventing her from receiving happiness from others. This is one of the clearest examples of how men can’t handle a woman’s right to say 'no’ and reject him…

8. Ryan - This tape is similar to that of Tyler in that he made her feel unsafe. What Tyler did was worse than Ryan, however the effect of Ryan’s actions had (in my opinion) worse consequences that Tyler’s. Ryan published her poem because he thought it was something that needed to be shared, a selfish and naive action (when considering the maturity of high school students), which meant that Hannah’s personal thoughts were no longer her own. She was not comfortable at school, home or in her own mind.

9. Clay - Though I agree when Hannah states that he shouldn’t have been on the tapes, Clay does represent 'everyone else’ who stands by and watched people like Hannah slowly fade and retreat into themselves because of the actions of others. The 'bystanders’ if you will, whose lack of part in our stories can be just as important as those who intrude on us.

10. Justin - It is evident in the series that Justin was extremely haunted by the rape at Jessica’s party and this is probably why he is gaining so much sympathy… this is also why I recommend you all READ THE BOOK. Justin stood by and watched his friend rape his girlfriend, why is he receiving more sympathy than I’ve seen for Jessica? Of course it was hard for Justin to witness that, but staying friends with Bryce and staying with Jessica without telling her is reason enough for him to be on the tapes again.

11. Jenny - Jenny was kind to Hannah, offering her a lift home, but she didn’t take responsibility for knocking down the stop sign which lead to someone’s DEATH. The guilt that Hannah was left with from this (because she was in the car) was understandably overwhelming, especially as the victim was a classmate who was blamed for drunk driving. Jenny is an example of how our reckless actions and lack of responsibility for them can destroy other lives; is that not the entire plot?

12. Bryce - Lord help you if you need an explaination.

13. Mr Porter - A perfect example of how there is not enough support out there for students (and people in general, honestly). The counsellor advising Hannah to 'move on’ after she confides in him that she was raped is one of the most haunting moments in the entire series, solidifying her reason for suicide- she had no comfort amongst her classmates, in her own home, in her mind and now, the specialist designated for dealing with situations like this bore no real interest in her problems and told her to 'move on’.

It’s extremely important for us when watching shows with topics like this to remember many things.

First, the show is not just this situation. Everything represents something more in society; each tape side is a problem in the world that leads to suicide, not only a small action by one character leading to Hannah Baker’s suicide. If you need help in understanding this, or want something else similar to this story, I recommend watching or reading 'An Inspector Calls’ by J.B. Priestly- a masterful piece tackling classism/sexism and how each person’s seemingly small actions lead to a girl’s suicide.

Second, memes are sometimes funny. The 'Clay every time he sees Tony’ memes are really funny, the 'fuck off, Courtney’ memes are funny, but the 'welcome to your tape over a slight inconvenience’ memes, they’re not. The show is raising awareness for the seriousness of suicide, not to create a fanbase of jokes about it. Promoting these after you watch the show, is a clear statement that you haven’t understood why it was made and is completely unacceptable.

Third, separate the character from the actor. Justin Prentice is NOT Bryce Walker, do not spam his comments with disgusting name calling or threatening- this is CLEARLY wrong and unnecessary. This also works the other way: Brandon Flynn is NOT Justin Foley. Just because Brandon is attractive and nice, doesn’t mean his character becomes as such.

Please don’t turn 13 reasons why into another generic element of pop culture. I love pop culture, don’t get me wrong, but we have a tendency to begin digging for meaning and giving up halfway; overusing the profound starting points of progress we find by loosely throwing them around, emptying them of all meaning.

yoongi really was desperate to debut

he came into bighit as a rapper- an underground rapper from daegu who only performed for crowds of two and made a couple of cents off of his tracks, which came up to not even be enough to buy ramen.

and when he began training at bighit, he didn’t want to burden his parents either so he paid for everything himself by getting a part time job even though he was a busy trainee/student. sometimes he would have to make the choice between eating that day or not having enough money to pay for the bus fare and being forced to walk two hours to get to where he needed to be. he went to school with wealthy students who would get foreign-made cars for their graduation present and he would have to swallow down his jealousy after seeing them get what they wanted so easily. and he fought with depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, and compulsion since he was eighteen years old.

yoongi came into bighit thinking that he was going to be in a hip hop group with namjoon and some of the original members of bts, but even though the group concept changed- he still stuck with it because he desperately wanted a chance to be on stage and create his own music. he learned to dance and even acted as a backdancer/mv extra for a little bit despite originally having the intentions of just being a simple rapper and even when he shattered his shoulders from an accident during his part time job as a delivery boy, he still persevered and worked hard to improve himself and prepare for debut.

and the only point where he wanted to truly give up was when he thought that the day of his debut was never going to come. like, this man has been through so many physical/mental difficulties and changes- he literally gripped onto the thought of a chance to be on stage to survive and the only point where he wanted to give up was when he thought that he was never going to get that chance.

I don’t know how to even put this in words and I don’t want to come across as simply using his life story for attention, but yoongi’s life is the ultimate example of hardwork and determination. I have no idea how he was able to handle all of b-free’s demeaning comments so well and I have no idea how people can say that b-free “got it right”.

and just knowing that yoongi still works himself to the bone till this day- working on his music and bringing his equipment wherever he goes ( whether it be during his vacation or on the airplane or in the waiting room) and staying in his studio until the very early morning- and still dealt with battles with his mental health and physical health  after his debut just amazes me because he never lets it show or he never lets it take him aback and somehow we still have the audacity to just label him as “lazy” and “coldhearted”.

yoongi truly is a symbol of persistence and dreams and he really is a role model for me. his lyric “though the beginning may be humble, the end will be prosperous” really did become a reality for him and it only came to him because he never gave up despite all what life threw at him. he motivates me to keep on moving forward in my life and I really do hope that all of you guys see and love him for all that he stands for.

Friendly reminder that fanfiction is amazing and if you read that instead of regular books, it isn’t really a bad thing.

Let me break it down for you. Fanfiction writers with pro writing and editing skills and amazingly imaginative minds are popping up everywhere now. I’ve seen fanfics so good I could hardly believe it was just a fanfic. For big fandoms like supernatural, voltron, Sherlock, Dan and Phil (the phandom), etc, I’ve seen tons of good fanfic. For smaller fandoms, very little but for most, there’s at the very least one good fanfic/a good writer who plans to write fanfic for it.

If people shame you for reading fanfic, don’t get discouraged. Fanfic is often times a great source of writing knowledge or education. I’ve learned more from reading fanfic than I have published books (also a lot of published books started out as fanfic anyways)

Also, for some people, reading published books isn’t their thing. Like me for instance; I’ve enjoyed a book before, but I don’t normally pick up a book and start reading it. It’s actually pretty difficult to get me to read books. But, you give me a well written fanfic and I’ll be all over that quicker than you can blink.

My writing skills have improved from reading fanfic. In fact, not only have I seen different writing styles, I’ve seen different writing formats, learned new words, learned about character development, learned more realism in how someone would react to something than I could from any published book, and so much more. Not only that, but it’s hard, if not almost impossible, to find a good book that satisfies all my needs as far as plot/genre, lgbt representation, characters, etc.

So guyyyssss. Just because you read fanfic doesn’t mean you aren’t reading “real stories” or aren’t reading “the correct stories”. If you are a middle school or high school student who has to read books for a grade, yeah. Maybe you won’t get a grade for it, but reading it on the side is okay. If you are an adult or kid who gets made fun of for reading fanfic instead of real books, to hell with the haters. Fanfic is awesome. And the cool part is, it’s easy to find. It’s loaded with good writers. And the best part; it’s uncensored by mainstream media. You don’t work for a company that has you write stuff for the mass when you write fanfic. You write it for fun because you can. Which means you can make it whatever you want (which is honestly probably why I like it better).

So go out there and read your fanfiction. It’s freaking amazing.

mandatory attendence can be ableist

mostly because of how mandatory attendence is usually set and done is made to help healthy people who take one or two sick days, not sick people who take multiple days to handle or cope with their sickness.

the “you can only be absent three times this semester or ill start dropping your grade” or “this quarter, you cant be absent more than 4-7 times or else you might fail” is very limiting to disabled students who need multiple days just to recover from going to school for one day, or are very sick and need to miss more than three days to even begin to get their illness under control.

another big thing ive heard from highschools, colleges and so on is that “if i let you skip, i need to let everyone skip”, this is stupid, because not everyone is disabled, abled people dont need to take multiple medical days, abled people dont have an illness that is making attendence harder for them, teachers, principals, etc who say this dont understand that disabled people exist and one of their limitations can be the ability to be in class for long periods of time/at all. you dont have to do it for everyone, because not everyone is disabled. and it infuriates me because why do they care about fairness when theyre openly saying that they wont make an accomodation to help a disabled student have an equal opportunity that abled people get with no problem and no fight.

and thats where the biggest issue in mandatory attendence lies, with the simple fact that its obvious teachers didnt think to add disabled people and what they might go through when thinking of rules, whether its because they didnt care enough about disabled students, or they just simply forgot, i dont know, but ableism is ableism.

and a disabled student having to hope a teacher understands their situation, because it isnt mandatory that you not punish the disabled person for being sick, is ableist as well, because getting a teacher who doesnt understand that someone cant help being sick or absent, can set a disabled person up to fail where it wouldnt set an abled person up to fail.

is this done on purpose? is it by accident? i dont know, i dont care, because ableism is ableism.

and id hate for any disabled person going into school feeling like being sick is their fault and choosing being present over being okay.

Happy 17 Million Subs, Markiplier!

Happy 17 Million Subs, Markiplier!

@markiplier

Sorry for the late post. I wanted to post it when we hit 17 mil, but you know I’m shy about my art and also I slaved over this for two days please be gentle

This was a pretty fun one to work on. My health is the same as always, so straight lines are absolutely still not a thing I can do, but I’ve been trying to embrace the messier aesthetic and I’m really quite pleased with how these turned out.

I know it still leaves a lot to be desired, but comparing it to similar things I have done in the past, like the 7 Million Sub art (which also has a dog) or the unholy mess that was the 8 Million Sub art (which I’m trying to give myself a pass on since I was at the hospital that day, but c’mon guys, that was bad) I am definitely improving.

If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll notice that my art and myself dropped right off the face of the planet for a year, almost two. I had no confidence in myself or in my work, and I let that take me away from what I love to do. It was Mark who brought me back into it. As I mentioned in this post, a lot of things changed for me after I watched the video where Mark talks about how he is excited for failure, because it helps him to grow. Directly after that, simply because one of my roommates put it in the queue on the Chromecast, I watched Mark’s Draw My Life. Although our circumstances are very different, I saw myself in him. I saw myself in the lost person who switched college majors all the time and didn’t know what he wanted. As weird as it sounds, that gave me some hope, which is something I desperately needed. If he can pull himself out, why can’t I?

So here’s the truth: I am in school for advertising, but what I really want is to be a writer. It’s my dream, and my passion is art. I quit both for a very long time, because I couldn’t accept the fact that my illnesses are chronic. I couldn’t accept that I will never “get better”, and that made me stop trying, because why live a broken life, anyway? But just because I’m fractured doesn’t mean I have no value. My brain thinks some terribly sad things, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t write beautiful ones. My hands may be unable to draw straight lines, but that doesn’t mean they can’t draw pretty ones.

So thanks for helping me learn that, Mark. I know you’ll never see this, of course. I’m not delusional. But I’d much rather have a thank-you unheard than a thank-you unsaid, y’know?

So thank you.

Because of you, I’m trying again.

~*~

As always, you can find these pieces of art on my Redbubble here. (x) (x) (x)

If you made it this far, thank you for reading my ramble. I know it’s irrelevant to you guys, but it helps knowing that I might not just be shouting into the void.

Langst! More Langst!

Keith lunged toward Lance once more, pinning him for the third time in two minutes. Their sparring matches usually ended in Keith’s victory, but never this quickly.

“Come on, Lance; you’re not even trying,” he prodded. Lance’s grimace (the one he’d been sporting all day, Keith had noticed) turned into an outright scowl at Keith’s jab.

“Sorry,” he said flippantly, “I’m distracted. And tired. Can I be done with this for the day?” Shiro looked surprised when Lance turned toward him, but before he could answer, Keith was interrupting.

“Seriously? You’re just ‘done with this for the day?’”

Lance bristled. “I wasn’t asking you.”

“You know why we train, right?” Keith pressed.

“Keith, knock it off,” Shiro grumbled, but Keith didn’t stop his assault.

“It’s because what we do is important. So whatever you’ve got that’s distracting you, whatever girl turned you down at the space mall or whatever conditioner you ran out of, you need to forget about it so you can focus on your actual responsibility to the universe for once.”

“Well, I’m sorry; not all of us just have this one big responsibility to the fucking universe,” Lance snapped in a terrifying quiet tone. “Can I not be cut a little bit of slack on the one day that I can’t stop thinking about the responsibility I was pulled away from?”

Keith looked shocked, his mouth falling open for a moment. Lance sighed and rubbed his face tiredly.

“What are you talking about?”

“Look, I’m sorry. I just–I’m stressed out. Can I just go back to my room?” Lance asked.

“No,” Shiro replied, “Tell us what you meant. What other responsibilities are you talking about?” Lance often felt homesick, Shiro knew, but he had always thought it was missing the comforts of home–not some kind of fear of what he had left behind.

Lance hesitated. “I mean, my mom is back on Earth, raising six children alone, and the next oldest one is my little sister, and she’s only 14.”

Shiro softened. “I’m sorry,” he replied, “I had no idea. But you know they’re fine, right? You mom was on her own with them while you were at Garrison, wasn’t she?”

“Well yeah,” Lance admitted, “but that’s the problem. That school is expensive, and it took almost all of our savings money. I was supposed to start working over the summer as a cargo pilot and eventually get a full time piloting job to cover the expenses, but now I’m here, and they’re on Earth with all my debt and loans on one income. My sister is supposed to start looking at schools this year, but without my loans paid off, she’s not going to have any options. She’s just going to have to get a job, and that’s–I just can’t–today is–” he trailed off, but Pidge knew what he was trying to say.

“The deadline for Garrison applications,” she finished. Lance nodded, not taking his eyes off the floor.

“Mi hermanita would have made a really great pilot,” he near-whispered, smiling sadly, “way better than me. And she’s not going to get to be one. Because I’m here defending the universe. So, yeah,” he looked back up at Keith with tears shimmering in his eyes, “I know this is my one big duty. And I know it comes with sacrifices, and I’ve made them all willingly. But I just–my sister shouldn’t have to, right? She doesn’t get to go to flight school because of her brother, who she probably thinks is dead anyway? I’m trying, but I just–today I need a little slack.” He set his bayard down on the ground and turned away. “I’m done with this for the day,” he said as he went back to his room. No one stopped him this time.

"But my Plot isn’t UNIQUE or BIG enough!”

One thing that I worry about is that my plot isn’t good enough. I know lots of other writers who have had this issue in the past as well, and it’s all about having confidence in yourself and your ability to tell a tale.

The plot doesn’t have to be groundbreaking, just think of how many people get fed up of Shyamalan twist-endings. They’re clever sometimes, yes, but they’re also not what everyone ever is looking for, and when they are forced into a piece of work it is painfully obvious to anyone who really values what you’ve written.

What matters is the telling of the story. Your plot can be exceptionally simple, and you might write one of the most compelling books of our era.

I found one thing that helped was to look at other works, and try and break them down into their very, very simplistic terms - the bare bones, the things the author would have decided up front perhaps. The things that… if told without the wonder of the story, might have been boring.

Like A Song of Ice and Fire, for example, which tells the stories of Political struggle against a backdrop of Ice creatures who can raise the dead and force them to attack you. It’s basically a Socio-Political zombie apocalypse, with dragons. That could have gone either way; as it was, it went amazingly. Because Martin is a master of making every character a person, and building such a rich, colourful world that we believe it.

So, what I’ve done is looked at a very popular work that spans multiple books. Harry Potter is widely known, so this should be useful to as many people as possible. It is also praised as one of the most in depth and atmospheric works for children, young people, adults, or just about anyone, having been translated, adapted and studied over and over.

                           HARRY POTTER BREAKDOWN

Bread and Butter

So, when I asked Google what the heck the plot of Harry Potter was, I got this;

This is what I’m going to call the BREAD AND BUTTER of the story. It’s what happens in the day-to-day of the story. It’s perhaps the introduction J. K. would have given when first sending in her manuscript. It’s also a hugely unoriginal idea.

The concept of a young Witch or Wizard attending a magical school where they can learn their abilities has been done before, a lot. It is basically the prmise of books like EarthSea and the Worst Witch.

So next time you think your premise is overdone or uninspired, remember that it doesn’t matter. It’s not the premise that counts, it’s what you do with it. What Rowling did with it was create an in-depth world, full of structures and rules, populated by characters we all loved, hated, felt sorry for or routed for. She also made sure to include a way for us to learn more about the world, so she made her protagonist just as unaware of the wonder and horror as all of us.

Tea

In this case, tea is gonna’ be the conflict of the story. The main arc. Because going to a Wizard School is freaking awesome and everything, but this story needs risk. Our characters need to be in danger, and they need something to overcome. Often writers get stuck here. They have a wonderful setting and they really want to write about their character doing this or that, but what’s the main goal? What is there to overcome?

Very simply, Rowling’s villain is a man who wishes to purify the progression of magic by weeding out those who’s blood he see’s as tainted. He is a Hitler-figure, who himself should be ‘tainted’ in his own view. That’s the villain’s GOAL. It’s clear, and simple.

If you think your villains goal is too simple, just look at Voldemort’s goal. What makes it more complex are the many twists and turns he and Harry both have to adapt too. His many failures, as well.

Voldemort fits into many tropes, including the bad guy ‘selling his soul’ to achieve a vain goal, the bad guy murdering the heroes’ parents, the ‘more like you than you think’ trope, where a Villain and a hero are quite similar. I especailly like that last one, because J. K. played with it. Yes, she included it, and yes she gave a magical reason as to why.

That just shows that unique elements can be added on to overdone ideas, to make them wonderful.

Jam and Cream

This is where Rowling turns her simple ideas into something beautiful. Whether an idea is original or not, it will not matter if the depth is not there. Jam and Cream stands for all the little things

The fact one of the most hated antagonists was only a prime player in one book but left such an impression, the fact Hermione was disliked by the main characters at first, the fact Neville was the cowardly laughing stock of the group for years. Let’s see… The fact Sybil was right about almost all of her predictions and no one believed her, thus linking her with the Mythological figure Cassandra.

The use of diversion and tension in The Prisoner of Azkaban, the fact that Harry’s own father was rather arrogant and mean at times, yet still a good person. The moral ambiguity of characters like Dumbledore or Snape.

And…

That isn’t even naming the things the books got wrong. Because every author makes mistakes. Yes! You’re allowed too! J. K. has Dumbledore play the ‘I’m going to withhold information from you for the sake of the plot,’ card. We are also supposed to believe Harry forgave everything Snape ever did and named his son after him because he rather fancied his mother. Many issues are left unaddressed, such as the disinterest/damn right rudeness towards Hagrid in the final years, or the silly quest over the fake Sword.

But in the end, if the story is told masterfully, no one is going to care.

Basically, what I’m trying to say is, if you plot is overdone, don’t worry about it. If your world feels familiar, do more to make it your own. If your villain feels like a trope, give them more twists and turns, and maybe a reason for the trope that fits your world alone. If your characters feel stale, give them more scenes that address their personality.

You’re doing fine, and your manuscript is totally fine. If you believe in it, there’s gonna’ be at least a hundred more people who would too.

Just heard over the radio that there are no formal studies showing that fidget toys help people with ADHD focus and that they cause distractions in schools so they’re a waste of money.

Anyway I’m so pissed because these things do help (no study but every ADHD and autistic person I’ve seen with these things has said it’s a huge help) and the distractions are from NT kids whom these stim toys were NOT designed for. Obviously if you give something made for disabled people to a non-disabled person it will affect them very differently.

Imagine handing out wheelchairs to kids who can walk perfectly fine. They’re going to fool around with them because they don’t need them and to an able-bodied person they are toys. Imagine people using the able-bodied kids’ abuse of wheelchairs as “proof” theyre not necessary and banning wheelchairs at school.

Do you see why this is a problem?

You were born to a family of angels. If someone thought goody-two-shoes people were terrible, imagine how it felt to sport wings that burned every time you lied and having to move nearly every month once you’ve served your purpose.

Being an angel, you all had a specific purpose. And being part of a family, your family would spread across a town to spread positive energy throughout the people. No one could ever be in a bad mood if an angel was around… unless they’re so consumed by the darkness.

And once you stepped into Beacon Hills High School, you knew you found where you needed to go. You had a feeling you belonged to be there and it made your wings tingle underneath your jacket. You rolled your shoulders back and took a deep breath before setting off to find your locker. As you walked, there were multiple pairs of eyes on you. Not because you were an angel that just glowed (that’s actual a myth), but because there were other supernatural beings in that school that got a whiff of your scent. You just didn’t know that… yet.

“She’s not human.” Malia whispered, looking over to Scott and Liam who understood her statement. “Her scent… it’s… different.”

Scott nodded in agreement. “We don’t know if she’s a bad guy-”

“Or girl.” Lydia interrupted.

He looked over to her and nodded slightly. “Yeah… bad girl or not… We lay off her unless she proves to be a threat.”

“Just keep your wolf and coyote eyes on her.” Stiles added. “Stay. Away.”

“Well someone needs to tell Theo the plan.” Liam muttered. The pack looked over to what he meant.

And there you were, standing next to Theo Raeken, struggling to open your locker which, coincidentally, was next to his. He stood stiffly as the doors were pushed open a breeze sweeping in, carrying your scent over to him which made it stronger. Fear struck him in his bones after registering what your scent was. “Are you here to punish me?” He thought aloud.

You looked over to him as he hid his face inside his locker. “Excuse me?” You asked, politely. When there was no response, you decided to pat the young man on his muscly bicep. But then you saw darkness and a young woman tearing this boy’s heart out repeatedly. It was like a nightmare. You yelped as you pulled your hand away, immediately recognizing the feeling of darkness. It consumed him.

You were standing in a daze as Theo slammed his locker shut and hurriedly walked away from you. Your eyes trailed him.

In your first period, you introduced yourself to the teacher and was shown to a seat. There was an empty desk beside you and you couldn’t wait to attempt to befriend this new person. But fate decided to play against you as the boy from earlier sat next to you with an annoyed expression.

“Are you stalking me?” He asked, abruptly. “First you’re next to me in the morning, opening a locker that clearly wasn’t yours since you can’t even open the damn thing. And now you’re sitting next to me in my first period? I’ve never seen you a day in my life. So if-”

“I’m sorry if you got that impression.” You apologized. “I was told to sit here by the teacher. And as for the locker situation this morning, I honestly could not open the.. um… thing.”

“Damn.” Theo repeated. You raised an eyebrow. “Say it.” You shook your head. Wings tend to painfully shed a feather or two if a curse word left your mouth. Growing feathers back was the true punishment. After a long period of silence and an intense staring competition, Theo finally said, “I know what you are. And I’m not going back.”

“What?” You asked as the bell rang and class began.

After the class, you chased after him but he immediately disappeared into the crowd of students. “What did this kid mean.” You asked aloud.

It wasn’t until lunch time that you saw this mystery boy again. The two of you locked eyes across the room and he stood up to leave the cafeteria. You ran after him and just before he opened the doors to leave, you grabbed him. “Let go!” He said, shaking you off.

“What did you mean you aren’t going back?”

“Why do you care?” He shot back. “I don’t know you!”

“My apologies… I’m-I’m..” You began, but he interrupted.

Why Do You Keep Apologizing!” He screamed. “Demons don’t do that!”

You furrowed your eyebrows. “You-you think I’m a demon?” You couldn’t even contain your laughter. His face sported a confused expression. “I apologize for my laughter. But I’m not a demon. My name is (Y/N).” You said, offering your hand.

“Theo.” He muttered. “If you aren’t a demon, then what are you? ‘Cause you’re definitely not human.”

“And I suppose neither are you.” You said with a playful smirk on your face. “You don’t need to be afraid of me, Theo. I’m not here to harm you nor take you back to that girl.” He raised his eyebrows at you, wordlessly questioning you. “That girl in your nightmares. The one that tears out your heart.”

“How did you-”

“Angels are more than just wings and good deeds, Theo.” You said. “We have purposes as to why we arrive in cities… and I have a feeling my purpose is to rid you of your darkness.”

“Can you do that?” He asked, hopeful. You smiled warmly.

“Of course.”

I’m thinking about doing a part two… Because this feels like it needs a part two. Wouldn’t you agree?

♡ Summary: It has been nearly a year since you started writing anonymous letters to Jungkook, giving him words of encouragement behind the thin mask of a paper. He never considered you as a possible suspect behind these letters, because you were nothing more than a best friend. And you couldn’t put all the blame on him either, after all, you were too afraid to confess in fear of tarnishing your precious friendship.

Who Picks the Heroes?  (ZAGSPOILERS)

SPOILER ALERT. SCROLL QUICKLY IF YOU DON’T WANT TO SEE.

So we know, according to PREMATURELY RELEASED INFO ABOUT THE UPCOMING SEASONS, that Alya and Chloe are gonna be the Fox and Bee respectively, right?

I’ve seen a lot of people wondering, as I myself have, what they’re going to do to earn or deserve them. A lot of theories around Chloe involve her accidentally getting it, which I think are funny. I’ve made it no secret that I don’t think Chloe deserves to be a superhero, or any sort of power in general, as she is right now in canon. But I digress.

I think the general assumption right now is that Fu is going to give the two girls the Miraculouses after a “test” like he gave Adrien and Marinette. But what if he doesn’t.

What if Fu gives Adrien/Chat and Marinette/Ladybug one Miraculous each, explains a bit about the Miraculous, and tells them to pick. It’s been just the two of them for so long and if they’re going to have to work with new people, they should get some say in who they are. Plus it’d be a good chance to teach the kids a good lesson about evaluating and trusting other people and themselves.

Marinette will pick Alya. She knows how much Alya wants to be a superhero and that she has the perfect qualities to be one. She’s cunning, clever, determined, and brave, among other things. She’s also a bit obsessed with the truth and being given powers of deception could help her find the balance she needs. Because sometimes the truth isn’t the best thing, sometimes secrets have to be kept, and not everyone deserves to know everything. It’s dangerous but she knows Alya can handle it. Plus, it’ll probably deter her from the whole identities thing!

Adrien’s first choice is Nino. Of course it’s Nino. He’s his best guy friend. He’d love for him to meet his Lady and join him in their escapades across the city. And, heck, it’d give him a chance to get back at Hawkmoth in his own way for akumatizing him. But then Adrien starts thinking about the Miraculous’ qualities and powers and about Nino himself and he realizes…Nino isn’t the best choice. Then he thinks about Chloe. Who she is, who she used to be, who she could be. As a hero she can’t be selfish. She will have to put her life on the line and she’ll have to care about people. It’d be tough but he knows Chloe. She’s determined enough to do anything once she puts her mind to it.  He remembers the assumptions made about him the first day of school just because she was his friend and he wonders if Chloe would ever even have the chance to change if she wanted to. Maybe being a hero is what she needs.

Fu approves.

What Do You Feel?

Who: Jughead Jones
Where: Riverdale

{Decided to try out a jug imagine}

Part One ||| Part Two

[Y/N] had, had enough. She couldn’t stand the one-sided tension between herself and Jughead. She respected Jug enough to give him space and time for this novel of his. She was thrilled about his idea and fully stood by what he was trying to achieve. [Y/N] would always support Jughead in everything he did because she absolutely loved him for who he was. She would never dare try to change a single thing because that was what made Jughead, Jughead.

But, this summer and the beginning of the school year was driving her insane. She felt second best and despite knowing that Jug needed to invest as much time as he needed into this novel, she just couldn’t’ stand having one-sided conversations. [Y/N] needed to know if anything more was going to come out of their odd relationship.

Nothing was ever talked about what they were, it just sort of happened. It was known that [Y/N] was off limits to any boy in Riverdale and not that Jughead had a line of girls waiting for him but it was clear who had his attention. Even Archie and Betty never talked about it, it was just there. A relationship built without words. But, [Y/N] needed answers. She could deal with the little notions of affection Jug would throw in her direction. In fact, she loved it. She loved that Jughead would reach across the table and gently grab her hand and hold it while he reread paragraph after paragraph; running his thumb over the top of her hand while she worked on her homework or read a book. She especially loved it when he’d just look at her and cup her face and press his warm lips against hers. Or when he’d gently bump into her on their way to her house and swiftly fit her hand inside his. And even the moments when he’d finally put his laptop away and they’d binge watch horror movies and pull her into his chest.

No words. Just actions. And [Y/N] could live with that. But being blatantly ignored and feeling as if she was talking to a brick wall, just wasn’t cutting it. She couldn’t sleep at night thinking that everything she had tried to talk to Jughead about, he didn’t even hear. It was frustrating because she was a human being that wanted to talk out her feelings. Express her everlasting love she had for him and wanting to know if he felt the same.

“Jughead.”

The tone in her voice snapped Jug from his thoughts, tearing his eyes from his screen. His brows furled as he looked at her standing in the doorway of the Blue and Gold news room. “[Y/N]?”

Stepping inside, she flickered a look towards Betty who gave her a concerned look. [Y/N] was never stern, and it was odd that she sounded so. “Could you give us a minute, Betty?”

Betty nodded, ruffling around and gathering papers to sort through in another room. “Of course, [Y/N]. Um, I’ll be back later.” Zipping by her friend, she exited the room.

“We need to talk.” [Y/N] said with the same tone as before, she was fidgeting with her fingers, trying to figure out her next words. It was now or never.

Jughead chose to ignore her strange behavior, “I really can’t, I’m finishing up the last few pages of this chapter.” Turning his focus back onto his laptop, his fingers started typing away. “You understand.” He spoke quickly before diving back into it.

An irritated sigh came from her lips as she turned around and shut the door. Slamming it loud enough to catch Jughead’s attention again. Turning to face him, she crossed her arms across her chest. “That’s the thing, Jug. Your novel is exactly what I want to talk about.”

Sensing that [Y/N] was as serious as her tone, he turned in his chair to face her. Nodding, he motioned towards the air. “Okay, shoot.”

“Am I second best to it?” She asked, her voice faltering a little. Her eyes were drilling into his, glossed over from feeling the emotion building inside her.

“What? No.” His eyes squinted, slightly shocked she asked. “What does that even mean, [Y/N]?”

“Second best, Jughead. Am I a less adequate, less desirable alternative?”

“Why would even ask me that, [Y/N]?”

Tears were brimming her eyes, taking a deep breath, she walked over towards him. Pulling a chair right in front of him. She sat down, her heart sinking further into her chest. Afraid to venture into this conversation. “Jughead, I love this novel of yours. I think it’s great, and if anyone is going to write about this town, it’s you. No one else could ever pull it off like you will.” Pressing her lips together, she looked up at the cracked ceiling. “But, it seems like that’s all you ever do. We used to talk to Jug. Talk all night about everything and anything. And when we would, I forgot where I was for the moment. All that mattered was that you and I were together. And that one day we would leave this town together and embark on this adventure away from Riverdale. But, I feel like you don’t feel the same.”

Jughead took in her words, analyzing them in his head. Taking in her hurt tone and trying to understand them. Was he invested in his novel, of course. Did he want to make [Y/N] feel like she was second best? Absolutely not. As much as he was a fluid with his words on paper, speaking them out loud was a different story. Jughead wasn’t normally one to shy away from voicing his opinion or putting his two sense in something he shouldn’t. But when it came to [Y/N], she took the literal words straight from his mouth and put them in a blender. He could never express what he felt other than by just showing her what she meant to him.

“Can you say something, Jug?”

Biting his lip, he looked down at his hands. “I don’t know what you want me to say, [Nickname].”

Sucking in hair, she ran both hands through her hair. “I want you tell me what you feel, Jug. I want to know what you truly think of me. If I’m just crazy and think what we have is more than what it really is. You write so beautifully, Jughead. I’ve read your stuff and for someone who’s so elegantly articulate, you never use them with me. I want you to use your words, Jug.” Her voice was breaking and it pained Jughead to see her so upset. How did he not see this coming? How could he have been so blind?

“[Y/N],” He started, his mouth pursed as he tried to pick the perfect words from the garden in his brain. “We function without words. That’s how it’s always been. I couldn’t tell you when we started us, because in a way we were always us. Just somewhere along the line, you and I delved into different world and never left. It worked. I shouldn’t have to tell you that I care about you, [Y/N]. It’s written clear as day on my face when I kiss your lips.”

Closing her eyes, she bowed her head. “That’s the point. We never talked about us and maybe we should have because I’m so confused, Jug.”

His brows knitted together, the wrinkle along his forehead becoming more defined. “What are you confused about, [Y/N]?”

Looking at him in his eyes, she calmly asked. “Is your novel more important then what we have?”

Jughead hesitated, the words getting caught in his throat. Closing his mouth, he shook his head. “No.”

“Oh, Juggie.” She breathed, a tear falling from her eye. “If you had to think, then I know my answer.”

“What do you want me to do, [Y/N]! This is who I am, you knew this before you dived head first into my dark waters. I am not the only one to blame for this.”

Standing up, [Y/N] whimpered out. “I want you to fight for me, Jug. I want you to tell me I’m being crazy and that this-whatever I’m feeling will pass. That you’ll make it up to me or that you love me or something.”

Jughead stood up too, his eyes searching hers. “I don’t know what to say, [Nickname]. What I feel for you can’t be described because I really don’t know what I feel. You’ve always just been there, [Y/N]. I care for you, I do. I just don’t know what more I can give you then what I’m already giving you.”

She stepped forward, “What do you feel when you kiss me, Jug? What do you feel when you hold my hand? What do you feel when I’m lying on your chest in the middle of the night? What do you feel when you haven’t seen me all day? Do you even feel anything for me at all? Am I just some girl you can practice on for the real thing?” Tears were falling now, she couldn’t hold them back anymore. “We’ve been best friends since were six, Jughead. I’ve grown up with you, watched you turn into the person you are and fell in love with it all. You’re flaws, you’re oddly humorous morbid personality, everything.”

Shaking his head, and turning slightly away from her. His hand reached up to his forehead, “[Y/N],” he warned.

Taking in a deep breath to settle her tears, she scrunched up her nose and wiped underneath her nose. “I can’t do this anymore, Jug.” Biting her lip, she held back a whimper at his darkened facial expression. The cold look he gave her was enough to shatter her fragile heart.

“So, that’s it, then?” Jug asked coldly.

Avoiding his harsh stare, she softly spoke out. “I asked a simple question and you couldn’t give me the answer. So why should I pretend that I never asked? I screwed up, I had this picture in my head of how we are supposed to be and we are far from that picture.”

“You’re throwing away years of friendship because-“

“-because I love you, Jughead. It’s just like Betty and Archie except in our case, you fed it. You kissed me, you held me, you caressed me. Over and over again.” Moving the chair back to its place, she wiped away more tears. “I’m too emotionally invested in you to continue our friendship right now but maybe when I get over it, we can go back to how it used to be, the days before you first kissed me on my front porch.”

“[Y/N],” he called out to her.

Shaking her head, she headed for the door. Swinging it open, she looked over her shoulder and pressed a smile. “I’ll always love you, Jug. That I have no control over but they say the soul usually knows what to do to heal itself, the only challenge is to silence the mind.”

Jughead watched her walk out of the news room, his heart pounding in his chest. What in the world just happened? Never in a million years would he have ever pictured his life without [Y/N]. She was essential to his life. She had always been there, always. Despite Archie being his best friend, so was [Y/N] but in a different way. She believed in everything he wanted to do, no matter how crazy. She was always someone he could rely on no matter what. And even though she would still be present in his life by going to the same school.

It felt like a part of him had been ripped from his body and thrown away, lost in the cruel world they lived in. He felt empty.

“Juggie?” Betty was leaning against the doorframe, “Everything okay?”

He stood there for a minute, still stunned that apart of him just walked away from him. “No.” He shook his head, “No, everything is not okay.”

Goodbyes hurt when the story is not finished and the book has been closed – jnd

the definition of friendship
is not one that can easily be described;
there are no black and white lines
because friendships are made
of people
and people are never perfect
but if i’ve learned anything
in my four years in high school,
it’s that friends are the ones
who still love you even when they hate you
because you made the biggest mistake of your life,
and who you know you can call at three in the morning
after your boyfriend cheats on you
even though she tried to warn you that he would do it
and hasn’t talked to you in two months,
and who will listen to you bitch about someone
for the millionth time in a row
and just let you go on because they understand
that you need to get it out of your system.
friends are the people who you go on late night, early morning,
and anytime in-between adventures with,
even if those “adventures” are just to walmart or mcdonalds or your house.
they are the ones who love you at your worst.
they are the ones who check up on you
even if they’re mad at you.
they are the people who still care about you
even when you don’t talk much anymore
and the ones who you can talk to about anything
or go anywhere
and still have a good time.
they are the ones who call your parents “mom” and “dad” by accident
instead of “mrs.” or “mr.”.
they are the ones who you tell everything to
and who have seen you at your best and worst.
friends are the ones who make this life worth living
even when it’s a living hell.
they aren’t the ones who only like you when you drink,
and they aren’t the ones who ditch when they see
how ugly you can really get.
they aren’t the ones who ignore your cries for help
because they’re angry at something you did to someone else.
they aren’t the ones who ignore you when you apologize
and they aren’t the ones who don’t accept your apology for fucking up.
and, most of all, they aren’t the ones who hate you and never change their minds. they aren’t the ones who leave you at rock bottom and only come back when you’re on a mountaintop again. they aren’t the ones who only want to see you at your gold-star moments; they aren’t the ones who leave when you’re crying at two am over something stupid for the millionth time and decide they just “can’t care” anymore.
it’s not always perfect; people aren’t perfect, so why would friendship be perfect?
friends make mistakes; forgive that whenever possible
(or when it’s a little impossible),
but also know when to let go of a friend who was never a friend at all.
—  high school is almost done and i haven’t learned much but i have learned who my real friends are. if you’re not one of them, see you never after june 2. // 2.10.17

So my number one question here is:

wHo was the firstie who ruined it for everyone

Was it one pureblood who overestimated his or her flying experience

Or was it like dozens of accidents

But what was the straw that broke the proverbial camel’s back and made them shout this on every first year student’s hogwarts letter

Is this a newish rule?

Is this why parents need such a strong reminder? Because thirty years ago, when they were eleven, they got to bring their broomsticks to school?

Was it maybe james potter?

It was probably james potter.

Ilvermorny House Headcanons

Horned Serpents: writing stories together; finding quiet hiding places around the school where they can go to just think; always coming up with off the wall ideas of things to do on the weekends; those weekends often spent just reading in the common room instead; heated arguments on theoretical things; morning birds drinking tea as the sun comes up; scented candles always burning; classical music; having the most wonderful ideas but never being able to properly express them

Wampus: laying down on the floor in the common room; knowing the coffee is hot, but drinking it anyway; burning their tongues; caffeinated drinks only; singing their favorite songs together out loud with no music, for no reason; hardcore pillow fights that get really intense and last hours; game night every Wednesday; coming up with new ways to make studying more bearable; being very connected to everything around them

Thunderbird: weekends spent outside; finding parts of class really interesting and researching them in the library just for fun; art competitions; made up games; secret parties; celebrating every holiday they can (flag day, national hat day, etc.); fighting over choosing the music; wacky foods, because they always want to try everything; exploring school grounds; always just wanting to do SOMETHING

Pukwudgie: plants everywhere; strange healing methods that oddly work; never going to the infirmary because they have their house-mates; always planning something; poetry readings; backstabbing not tolerated; equality; selling healing potions to classmates with colds; always smell good; the helping hand to anyone who needs it; study buddies; late night hair styling; compliment machines if you seem like you need one; always feeling obligated to help even if they can’t

Back in Focus Bottle

With the school season well started, this little bottle is meant to bring focus back to your important tasks/ goals/ studies. Doesn’t have to be for those who are going back to school, but anyone who needs to re-focus!

  • Salt
  • Rosemary
  • Basil
  • Lavender
  • Peppermint
  • Blue Glitter

Salt to clear away any disrupting thoughts.

Rosemary to clear your mind and bring clarity.

Basil to prevent mental fatigue.

Lavender to ease the mind and reduce anxiety.

Peppermint to stimulate the mind and boost your energy for that last push.

Blue glitter to catch your attention, inspire positivity and refocus.

When you find your mind wandering away from your task, pull this little bottle out and give it a nice shake (it doesn’t smell too bad either!). Take some deep breaths, clear your mind (however works best for you), focus on the bottle while thinking about your task. It’s not so bad/ daunting/ boring. You can do it and you’ll knock it out of the park. Once it’s done it’ll be over and you can move on to other things you might want to do more.

This is meant to be a super simple, very quick, practical bottle. It was made with school in mind (for my husband who is going back to school, specifically), but of course can be used for any sort of task you may need to spend time and effort doing.

There is no liquid, so it’s not quite like those cool swirly glitter bottles. It’s just dry ingredients with a fair amount of glitter. The jar is full, but not packed. It took some experimenting with to get the glitter showing well even after shaking.

Because I thought the smell was also quite helpful, I didn’t seal it with wax.

Let me know if you try this, or what you change to make it your own! I always enjoy seeing other people’s creations!

What's Bloodborne's Plot?

So this ancient underground civilization™ thought it would be pretty rad to make a deal with some aliens and take their blood, but surprise, it actually wasn’t a good idea at all! Turns out the blood was in fact bad for humans and turned them into beasts. At some point the aliens got bored or something or maybe it was just really stuffy underground, so they left the ancient underground civilization™ and looked for new things to play with (all except Ebrietas because either the other aliens didn’t want her to come or she really liked living in the dark, cold, damp ruins of a dying race, who knows). Things went a bit downhill from then and everyone underground either turned mad or turned beast.

Anyway some years or decades or centuries later someone was like “let’s build a gothic city with as many superfluous ornamentation as we can think of” and others were like “yeah okay” and they built Yharnam right on top of the ancient underground civilization™’s former homes. There was also a school and of course it was bound to happen that the pupils stumbled across those ancient homes at some point (tho no one knows how, maybe one of them stubbed their toe against some weird monolith that came out of the ground and it turned out to be the entrance to the old labyrinths). Down there they found traces of the aliens and since they didn’t know that most aliens are evil and want to overtake the world, they decided to research them instead of calling it a day and never coming back.

There were two people in the school that were a bit more important than the rest. One of them was principal Willem, who just sat in his chair all day and waited for the aliens to abduct him because he found them so cool. The other one was Laurence and he’s like “let’s take this blood and make a religion out of it.” and principal Willem was like “no Laurence this is a really horrible idea” and then Laurence was like “Pshhh whatever.” and he went to found the healing church. And since Willem only sat in his chair all day he couldn’t follow and stop him.

So Laurence and his church became pretty popular in Yharnam and the blood they took from the aliens healed all kinds of diseases and people came from far and wide to get an injection with the blood because hepatitis hadn’t been invented yet. But as we all know the blood turned people into beasts, so Laurence was like “oh fuck” and called his friend Gehrman to hunt and kill those beasts so the rest of the populace could take their blood and transform in peace.

Like that the Hunter’s Workshop was founded and did some pretty nasty things, until one day Laurence was like “actually you know what I don’t need you anymore, I made a new gang of hunters, with black ones and white ones.” and Gehrman was so pissed about it that he made contact with one of the aliens and immediately got trapped in a dream world. Stupid Gehrman.
There was also this other dude called Micolash who was friends with Laurence at first and helped him with research and alien-ology. But then got bored and founded his own school. It was much fancier than that of Willem because Mico had rituals and sacrifices and neat headwear. Somewhere along the way he fucked up tho and contacted an alien, too, and of course promptly got trapped in a dream world. Those people never learn.

Anyway, meanwhile in the waking world Laurence realized that maybe, eventually, there could be a slight chance that the blood wasn’t good after all because the whole city had gone nuts. There are beasts and crazy people and crazy beast people and there is really no way to save things anymore.
Enter The Hunter, a poor soul who just wanted some blood treatment and somehow got dragged into the whole thing of beast hunting. After overcoming several obstacles, including a really sad priest, multiple screaming gigantic dogs, Good Ol’ Micolash Himself and progressively weirder-looking aliens, The Hunter is left with the choice of dying, also getting trapped in a dream or being turned into a squid. The latter is the best option because you still get to be with The Waifu.

So i’ve told this story to almost everyone who doesn’t go to my school but i need to post it here because i can’t stop thinking about it,

So every year my school has senior prank day at the end of the year (i’m assuming most schools have this?) where the graduating students run around and play pranks. There have been lots of wild pranks every year cause my school is weird as fuck, live lobsters in the toilets, syrup all over the stairwell, setting up a slip n slide outside stuff like that. There was one prank though that made me lose my shit

One year some students smuggled a fucking cow, a WHOLE cow, into the school and brought it up to the second floor of the school. Now, cows can only go upstairs, they can’t go back down. The cow gets fucking stuck on the second floor and the school had to drop $2000 on getting the cow lifted out of the school via crane.

Now i’m not saying pidge, lance and hunk would get a cow stuck on the second floor of the garrison on prank day but, they would get a cow stuck on the second floor of the garrison on prank day.
