Gosh, that part in Much Ado About Nothing when Beatrice and Benedick read each other’s secret love letters and admit their love is always so cute. But, like, too cute.

That’s more like it. That’s the response I’d expect of two hyper-critical sarcastic dorks in love.

My mom’s waiting….Keep thinking what you’re thinking. I don’t have a choice.

Does anyone remember Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders? It was this show from the mid-90s about a bunch of girls going on adventures, firing CG lasers at people and collecting lots and lots of bling! I used to get up early to watch every episode, and I still remember it fondly. In retrospect, it was kind of like She-Ra and Sailor Moon’s losery little sister. It never really did anything right, from the hideously lazy animation to the blatant product placement to the dippy plotlines, but its very incompetence made it sort of cute and loveable.

My five-year-old self was never picky about cartoons, so I thought Gwen and her pals were super rad! There were a lot of scenes where a character would dramatically throw herself in front of an oncoming laser beam to shield her friends with her body. That might seem goofy and overwrought today, but back in 1995 I felt like I was watching Saving Private Ryan. My favorite was Tamara, because she was friends with animals, had fluffy cotton candy hair and wore cute fluttery one-pieces… kinda like the characters I’m still into these days. Goes to show that tastes never really change, or at least that they regress to infancy over time.

Whatever! Friends together, friends forever, right?
