Just incredible, loved every moment of this series.
Started off very nicely introducing us to what everyone’s been doing since we last saw them and took their time to bring them together which I liked because they were each working their own case and it felt like you’d earnt the team up.
It just went from strength to strength when we did get the team up as well.
That episode 3 fight sequence was one of the best fight sequences I can remember ever seeing (and their previous series had some damn good ones!) although the finale also brought the goods.
They really utilised the fight sequences well, using everyone’s specific abilities and they were shot incredibly well, beautiful stuff.
Character wise I already loved everyone so there’s no big revelations but my love for Jessica Jones has grown exponentially every episode- what a woman- kicking ass, talking shit to her team mates, getting drunk, what more do you need from a superhero.
Jess/Matt the brotp I didn’t know I needed in my life.
You just knew Matt couldn’t live very long without putting on the Daredevil suit, his moment with Foggy at the police station had me emotional though and then when he didn’t come back to him and Karen (⊙﹏⊙✿)
Danny and Luke are also well on their way to becoming bro’s and I’m thrilled about that.
Danny himself had a rough ride through these 8 episodes but I’m excited about where he goes from here.
Luke is just the sweetest for the toughest and (maybe) strongest of the team he’s always the last to turn to violence and always just want to help the little guy.
The secondary characters of all the series are incredible though and that doesn’t stop with The Defenders; Colleen was kicking ass any chance she got and really shone in the last episode, Claire didn’t have the big role I thought she would in bringing everyone together but she was there the whole time and joined the fight when it mattered and I can’t get enough of that woman, Misty also brought her A-game working the cop side throughout and I’m weirdly thrilled she’s lost her arm now and that she’s gonna be in Iron Fist Season 2 #DaughtersOfTheDragonFeelsIntensify
So many incredible character interactions as well, obviously the main four coming together was a big deal but equally important was when they set up the protection service for secondary characters (friends and family/loved ones/whatever they called it) leading to some great cross over moments.
I know people love to moan about Marvel villains but I don’t see how they can with The Defenders?!?!?!?!?!
Sigourney Weaver as Alexandra was perfection, a wonderful big bad to set up the series although I did kind of love it when Elektra murdered her.
Elektra herself is of course always a boss and was putting everyone on their ass from the very first episode.
I’m sorry but my MVP always has been and always will be Madame Gao, I don’t know what it is but I love that woman and I’m so glad that after all these years she’s come into the forefront and got to kick some ass herself.
The Hand made a lot more sense this time as well, it wasn’t just ninja in the darkness hurting everyone, we got the inner circle, they had a clear history and clear goals to accomplish.
Colleen and Danny continue to melt my heart, I love them.
Matt and Elektra are also a guilty pleasure of mine and that ending did nothing to extinguish that, a perfect ending for the pair, although I doubt it is and ending for either of them.
Whilst I love Claire/Luke so much and their relationship seeing Luke and Jessica together again and exchanging little comments about their time together has me torn.
So it had everything, a great plot, great action sequences, great main characters, incredible secondary characters, great villains and was generally done amazingly well all round!
Well that was an incredibly satisfying end to a great series.
The final fight with the gang against the hand was amazing to watch and really well shot I thought, that moment when the camera kind of pans around and you see all 4 of them kicking some ass in their own way.
LOVE that after they took out the goons it took all four of them to go after Elektra and even then they couldn’t best her- is it wrong that I love her so much.
Matt and Elektra together at the end though (◡﹏◡✿)
Gao was dishing out some hurt at the start of the fight, kind of really hope she managed to get out alive as well.
Jessica literally held up an elevator with Luke and Danny inside, what a fucking boss.
Colleen, Claire and Misty teaming up to take on Bakuto is everything I ever wanted in my life, so proud of my baby for finally shutting that dick head up.
Am I sick to really enjoy that Misty finally lost her arm.
I can almost smell the Daughters of the Dragon vibes from here.
Karen and Foggy watching the door for Matt to come back broke my heart, so sad.
I hope this means Danny is gonna put on a green costume and start solving crime around the city now.
Great ending, obviously he wasn’t dead but now I have so many questions to ask.
so many people in this new daredevil fandom are talking about matt murdock - and yes, I love his adorable face and complex characterization as much as anyone but there are other characters we need to talk about.
we need to talk about karen page, the secretary who refused to be just a secretary, refused to just sit back and accept injustices when she knew she could fight for change, the woman who either knows exactly what to say or will ask the right questions until she figures it out.
we need to talk about claire temple, the nurse with a clever smirk who dedicated her life to helping people but will question the hell out of their motives, the woman who laughs in the face of a painful beating because she knows those sons of bitches are about to get what’s coming to them.
we need to talk about vanessa marianna, the art dealer who will not be bought but will remember paintings as though they are her own children, the woman who will have dinner with a dangerous man, gun in her purse and smile on her face, insistent upon honesty and captivated by emotion.
we need to talk about madame gao, the leader of an empire built on hobbling feet and demands for perfection, the ancient kingpin, steady as a terracotta warrior, the woman who will only speak in her own language and expect others to translate if they want to be worthy of understanding her.
we need to talk about these fascinating, developed women. we need to recognize their importance.
I love the MCU movies and I love the Netflix shows. But something about the shows gets to me more. They’re darker and gritty and realistic. Don’t get me wrong, the movies are great and I can’t wait for Ragnarok, Black Panther and Infinity War. But Daredevil and Luke Cage and Punisher (when it finally comes out)? They’re special. The character development and exploration is so much better in the shows, which may be what makes them so great.
And I was so happy to see so many of my loves all in one place in Defenders. Not just the superhero babes but also the “sidekicks”, and I use that term loosely. Jess and Matty are definitely brotp, which I wasn’t expecting. I was looking forward to Luke and Danny together, because they’re bros in the comics, but Jess and Matty came out of nowhere and killed it. They’re perfect and wonderful and I’d watch a show of them together, arguing and beating people up.
And the show really fed into my ladies of Marvel need because you’ve got Jess, Trish, Karen, Colleen, Claire and Misty all in once place. There’s already potential team-up between Colleen and Misty but I really just need all the ladies hanging out and taking names. And Misty! I’m so excited she lost her arm because she’s got a badass prosthetic in the comics and I can’t wait. Like, it sucks she lost her arm but what could come from that is so amazing.
As for Elektra and Matty. First, I’m in love with Elektra. She may be a little cray-cray but also her killing Alexandra
and being perfect and beautiful and looking all pathetic and sad like a lost
puppy who can also tear all your limbs off. And don’t even get me started on Matty. I’m so pissed he died. I knew it wasn’t going to be real but the emotional toil on me, Karen and Foggy was very unnecessary. Not to mention at the end when you see someone on a rooftop overlooking the city and think it’s going to be Daredevil and it ends up being Danny. Why you got to hurt us like that?
As for our villains, I love Madame Gao. I always have and always will. And I was not happy she wasn’t the biggest badass in the room whenever Alexandra was around. Although I have to say, Alexandra has good taste. Botticelli’s Birth of Venus, the classic music. I’ll give her props for that at least.
I liked the filming too. The use of mirrors and reflections throughout the show was cool. And the way they moved from location to location or switched between boroughs by showing trains or cars. An obvious way to show travel around New York City but I liked it.
My least favorite part might have been that we got a Punisher trailer but no date..still. You keep saying 2017 but the year is quickly running out. Other than that, I didn’t like the song during the final big fight scene. It seemed super random and just didn’t seem to fit.
Overall, I loved the show. It was a great way to bring everyone together, deal with the issue of the Hand and explore more of that mythology, and it fit in with the other shows and characters without ruining what had come previously.
