I just…I just can’t even believe how amazing that episode was? So we have:

  • Mac openly talking about how he’s worried if his sexuality is bothering his best friend and trying to start an open dialogue with his other best friend about it
  • Dennis finally admitting he has feelings, BIG feelings (and apparently they hurt which is something I could have gone without but beggars can’t be choosers)
  • Mac getting Dennis his first Valentine’s Day present and it’s the one thing he wanted more than anything else in the world and Mac fucking knew it because Dennis is his best friend and he knows him better than anyone excuse me while I go sob
  • DENNIS ADMITTING HE HAS FEELINGS I need to say it again because it’s just so wonderful
  • The Macdennis was strong in this episode, as was Serial Killer!Dennis (so I was a pretty happy camper especially since they came together in the most marvelous way)
  • Hell, there was even some Chardee, which I something I can always appreciate
  • Also, Dee was amazing, just throwing that out there
  • We didn’t have soft-hair!Mac, but we did get swoopy-hair!Dennis, so I think it evened out
  • Dennis was Mac’s Valentine. And the look on Mac’s face when Dennis opened the crate and found the RPG was beautiful. As was Dennis’ face when he saw his very first present, second only to his breaking voice and watering eyes
  • “I love it. You figured out the one thing I wanted more than anything else in the entire world, and you got it for me, and it’s perfect” <– That is a fucking canon quote and you can rip it from my cold dead fingers

dennis saying he has big feelings, charlie singing a song to dee, mac talking about himself being gay, the gang writing valentine day cards to one another, frank being accepted and loved by charlie for being fat, mac buying dennis what he wanted most in the world and dennis being overcome with emotion, how blessed we are in this year of 2017

Charlie sang a love song to Dee
Mac gave Dennis a Valentine’s gift

CharDee MacDennis is coming true 💞

You will notice that Mac and Dee are the ones who have the “Dennis wants us to talk about ~feelings” talks … and Mac talks about Dennis and Dee talks about Charlie … like obvious parallels, talking about the other half of their ships.

The prophecy has been set in motion.

(Also seriously Dee was tearing up over Charlie’s song and shit, dude, she’s like so in love with him and Mac is so in love with Dennis and for real like???? Chardee and Macdennis are getting some play, yo.)

Now that I have had time to let the episode sink in, I just want to say how much I love that everyone in the gang automatically knew Dennis wanted more from them than to just ‘do their jobs’, and was emotionally detaching himself from Valentine’s day, and then they set out to fix it, in a way that they thought would make him happy.

chardee macdennis. they told us from the start.

but like… they really did??? it’s interesting to think about how the teams from the actual game (charlie + mac, dee + dennis) used to pair up and cahoot together more often in the earlier seasons of the show, and as the show has gone on, things are slowly but surely converging in the direction of chardee macdennis

Dennis seems... really far away from a big part of his old personality, which was being a "ladies man". He seems a lot more focused on the gang now tbh. he's always been pretty close with dee & mac, but now he seems to genuinely care about mac, and he's also really close with Charlie in the last few seasons. like, I thought he might've hated Valentine's Day bc of Some Thing With A Girl but he was sad that the gang left him out... that said, it seems weird he would abandon them to "be a father"

it’s really interesting to me how dennis’ characterization has progressed, particularly within the past couple seasons. i think the gang almost drowning was sort of a wake-up call for him, and i think he’s DEFINITELY taking his meds now.

on a more meta level, i think the shift in his character is both because they’d just kind of…. exhausted the Mentally Ill Edgelord Serial Killer Wannabe angle? like there was nowhere else to really go with that and still keep it funny– and also because they’d gone too far with it already. i know glenn said he was really on the fence about (and even came to regret) the scene with dennis and the girl in the gang goes to hell, so i think they’re realizing they’d made dennis as a character TOO unlikeable at that point.

in any case you make a good point! i’m banking on Something happening in the s12 finale that’s gonna scare him into leaving… either that or him thinking that, now that he’s more stable, he’s actually ready to have the domestic life he tried and failed to have in s6.

ok not to be gay but dennis sleeping in the middle between mac and dee so hes real close to mac and saying “thank u. i love you” very softly to mac while macs sleeping bc he just loves his gift (and mac) so much but still isnt comfortable REALLY expressing his emotions normally

Yeah I've been thinking for a while now that they blow up Dennis's car to make Mac feel better. Dee, Frank, and Charlie all gave each other a look when Dennis was saying how much he loved his rpg. So I think Dennis will somehow break Mac's heart and the gang will encourage Mac to relieve his anger and they themselves won't pass up the opportunity to blow something up. And Dee will be relieved that it's not her car this time.

i reiterate that this is going to be mac in dennis’ double life:

What I learned, honestly, is if there is that much of a pull…there was really nothing that could keep me away from him. Once we really started dating, I knew that we would get married. That’s so cheesy, but now that I’ve dated a bunch of people, then found him and gotten married, you really do know. You really do. So if you’ve got doubts and you’re not sure, the answer is no, it’s not right. That’s what I think because it only gets harder. You get used to each other. We’re great friends, he’s an amazing man, and he’s fun. My kids are so lucky that he’s their dad. He’s smart, he’s sensitive, he was everything that I was looking for. So it was so dumb [ to try and not date] because there was nothing that could have stopped me because he was the right person.
