Chicago public schools to withhold diplomas if students don’t have job, college or military plans

  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced that Chicago will require high school students to have a job, college acceptance letter, gap-year program enrollment or military enlistment before receiving their diploma.
  • Detractors are questioning if the new requirement is possible.
  • The measure, passed by the Board of Education in May, will affect current sophomores graduating in 2020. Critics of the ruling — like Karen Lewis, the president of the Chicago Teachers Union — have pointed out some of the major flaws. Read more (7/5/17)

For many, fireworks are the highlight of 4th of July. For those with PTSD, it’s a different story.

  • Among the American flags and patriotic symbols, Americans across the country might spot a different sort of decoration this Fourth of July: Yard signs that clearly state, “Combat veteran lives here: Please be courteous with fireworks.
  • ”These signs, which have been distributed by the organization Military with PTSD since 2015, point to one of the lesser-known consequences of America’s Independence Day celebrations — that the fireworks Americans set off to show their patriotism can be devastating to those who have done the most to serve the United States.
  • For military veterans and others who suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, fireworks can be a triggering event, catapulting survivors back to moments of trauma and becoming a source of confusion and fear rather than happy celebration. Read more. (7/4/2017 8:34 AM)

Cannot stand it when people manipulate horrors like the holocaust, or 9/11, in order to draw attention and shock others into noticing their agenda item.. US government is the worlds biggest terror group, ask the natives of America, ask the neighboring countries, take a look at a few communities in the US, mostly take a look around the world. Which country has the most military presence on foreign soil? And yet, most of the violence in America is by White Supremacists who admire the Nazis and harbor the same kind of Nationalism that led Germany to create the the Third Reich.

House of Reps. rejects attempt to ban gender confirmation surgery for trans troops
The Republican-led House narrowly rejected a measure on Thursday that sought to strike an Obama-era practice of requiring the Pentagon to pay for gender transition surgeries and hormone therapy.

Last night, the U.S. House of Representatives rejected a measure that would have undone an Obama-era policy requiring coverage of hormone therapy and gender confirmation surgery for transgender members of the military.

Rep. Vicky Hartzler, the Republican legislator who authored the bill, claimed that covering transition-related healthcare would cost too much money, as well as resources in the form of troops unable to serve while recovering from surgery.

Her awful quote: “It makes no sense to create soldiers who are unable to fight and win our nation’s wars.”

Since Oct. 1, transgender troops have been able to receive medical care and start formally changing their gender identifications in the Pentagon’s personnel system. A Rand Corp. study found that there are between 2,500 and 7,000 transgender service members in the active-duty military, and another 1,500 to 4,000 in the reserves.

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis decided late last month to give the military chiefs another six months to conduct a review to determine if letting transgender people enlist in the armed services will affect the “readiness or lethality” of the force. However, the delay doesn’t affect transgender troops who already are serving openly in the military.

Hartzler, a four-term congresswoman who has been mentioned as a possible 2018 challenger to Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., has suggested forcing transgender service members out of the military services. But she backed away from her plan last month, saying she would give Mattis and other senior military leaders the room to settle personnel matters internally.
