Matra Simca Bagheera U8 (M560), 1974. Matra built the Bagheera, a mid-rear engined sports car with 3 seats abreast, for Chrysler’s French subsidiary fitted with Simca’s 1294 and 1442cc engines. Feeling that the car would benefit from more power Matra set about developing a U8 version.The power unit was created by joining two four-cylinder power units side-by-side with each bank having its own crankshaft. The drive was joined via a chain at the gearbox. Three prototypes were made but the 70s energy crisis ensured the project progressed no further
