One woman’s Facebook post spurred the massive airport protests after Trump’s Muslim ban

By 9:20 a.m. Saturday, Jacki Esposito, an attorney who works as a policy consultant based in New York City for immigration nonprofit organizations, knew that Trump’s order was already in effect at airports across the country, where travelers from banned countries were already being detained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents.

So, she posted on Facebook: “We should all be at airports across the country protesting right now.”

Seventeen minutes later, an organizer named Molly Sandley responded. “Anyone organizing? I’ll help,” she wrote.

Sandley has a wide network of connections in New York City and beyond. She’d worked on the Obama campaign in 2008, and spent the weeks before Trump’s inauguration organizing buses from New York City to the Women’s March on Washington.

“Don’t ever invite Molly to your party,” Esposito joked in a phone call to Mic later on. “Because she’ll bring 1,000 of her friends.”

And that’s exactly what she did. Read more

Some little Newt/Tina things in FBAWTFT
  • Newt not commenting on the fact that Tina’s no longer an Auror and yet she arrested him - he kinda just goes with it
  • “Where’d she pick you up?” (Abernathy) - Newt doesn’t say anything, not ratting her out
  • Their bickering at the beginning being akin to Ron and Hermione’s bickering
  • “I’m always alone, Mrs Esposito!” (Tina) - Newt and Tina then sharing a look on the stairs after she says this
  • Tina looking “disappointed” when Newt tries to sneak out of the apartment
  • Newt and Tina sharing awkward looks/looking at each other awkwardly when Jacob and Queenie are flirting
  • Newt sleeping in the bed with a blue blanket and a bookcase next to him (I don’t know about you, but when I think about Tina’s colour palette I think blue) (Jacob is then in a bed with a pink blanket and Queenie’s slip on the end)
  • Tina looking apologetically at Newt when he climbs out of his case in the middle of the MACUSA meeting
  • Newt’s not even angry that she brought him and his case back to MACUSA - his facial expression is a bit like “oh. I see.”
  • “No, she didn’t do anything wrong!” (Newt)
  • Tina looking to Newt for comfort just before the executioners extract her memories; Newt looking back at her, somewhat distressed/upset
  • “I’ll catch you, Tina” “I’ve got you, Tina”
  • The two of them gazing at each other for a quick moment when he catches her, holding her in his arms
  • Newt and Tina holding hands as they run away
  • “We need to find all of your creatures so that Graves can’t keep using them as a scapegoat” (Tina)
  • Did anyone else think they were going to kiss on the rooftop when Tina took a step closer to him before saying “Gnarlak”?
  • Tina looking embarrassedly at Newt when she changes into her flapper dress outside the speakeasy.
  • Tina looking sad when Newt gave Pickett to Gnarlak
  • Newt watching Tina gently lower the escaped Occamy into the nest
  • “You need a giver” (Queenie) - followed by Tina coming up to them and going “What’re you guys talking about?”
  • “If I don’t come back, look after my creatures” - he trusts her enough to do this
  • Tina screaming “NEWT!” as he apparates off the roof - it’s the first time she calls him by his first name and not “Mr Scamander”
  • “Newt and I will protect you” (Tina)
  • “It’s been…” -  "Hasn’t it?“
  • Tina thanking Newt for persuading Picquery to put her back on the Investigative Team
  • “I can’t think of anyone I’d rather have investigating me” (wince) - “Try not to need investigating for a bit”
  • “Does Leta Lestrange like to read?” - “…Who?”
  • “People change…I’ve changed.” - “Yes.”
  • Tina trying her very best not to cry as Newt goes to leave and failing
  • “I’d like that…very much!” - Tina with happy tears in her eyes as she says this
  • Tina’s little skip as she leaves the docks

There’s probably more I’ve missed out but these are what’s occurred to me.

(A similar post will probably be written titled “Little Tina things in FBAWTFT” about Tina specifically)

Roy Montgomery taught me what it meant to be a cop. He taught me that we are bound by our choices, but we are more than our mistakes. Captain Montgomery once said to me that, for us there is no v i c t o r y. There are only b a t t l e s. And in the end, the best you could hope for is to find a place to make your stand. And if you’re very lucky, you find someone willing to stand with you.
