London singer/songwriter Lyla Foy is a recent addition to Sub Pop Records and will release her debut LP, Mirrors the Sky next month. The first single “Feather Tongue” is a beautifully understated electro-pop track showcasing Lyla’s mesmerizing vocals and dreamy melodies.
At the beginning of the year, we compiled a list of bands and artists that we were looking forward to hear more in 2013. On that list was WALL, now recording under her own name, Lyla Foy. The change in name is perhaps a good idea, WALL was not the most “google-able” name.
Regular visitors to the blog will know that we are big fans of Lyla’s music. She has had a great year with the release of her excellent debut EP Shoestring (which I have played over and over again).
A couple of weeks ago it was announced that she had signed to Sub Pop records. It is so deserved that Lyla has been signed to such an influential record label. Her first release on the label is the single Easy.
We have so far dedicated 2 internet-pages worth of blog plots to Lyla Foy (formally perfoming under the pseudonym WALL), including an interview we did with lovely Lyla for issue 1 of our zine.
I know blog-buddy Dan is a real busy bee with university because he hasn’t sent me the soundcloud link to Feather Tongue, neither have i recieved a facebook message saying “LYLA’S ALBUM (MIRRORS IN THE SKY) IS GOING TO RELEASED MARCH 18TH!!!!”. University dissertations are cruel things (they have the power to take over your life).
The Lyla Foy album is killer, and her performance last night at The Louisiana had some really beautiful moments. I’d love to see the band again at the end of this tour when they’ve settled into it a bit.
