lung disorders

Strange Fruit
Billie Holiday
Strange Fruit

“For her performance of “Strange Fruit” at the Café Society, she [Billie Holiday] had waiters silence the crowd when the song began. During the song’s long introduction, the lights dimmed and all movement had to cease. As Holiday began singing, only a small spotlight illuminated her face. On the final note, all lights went out and when they came back on, Holiday was gone.

Holiday said her father Clarence Holiday was denied treatment for a fatal lung disorder because of prejudice and that singing “Strange Fruit” reminded her of the incident. “It reminds me of how Pop died, but I have to keep singing it, not only because people ask for it, but because twenty years after Pop died the things that killed him are still happening in the South,” she said in her autobiography.” [Wikipedia]

Today’s shenanigans. I spent most of my day sitting outside painting these water-filled lungs while listening to Florence. Then I finally decided to go for a run, but was not feeling it. When I inhaled a bug at mile 1.02, I decided it was time to give up and walk home, so I stopped to admire nature and pick myself some flowers.
And now for the not so glamorous/idealistic stuff. It took me all day to get started on packing stuff for moving some things into the trailer I’m living in this fall. I am only now finally brushing my teeth. I am extremely disturbed today in that I feel like I have some sort of bacterial infection under the skin of my legs and so I’ve torn holes in them trying to dig it out. Also I keep pestering a few older wounds I have that should be healed by now.
My new meds are giving me energy since they stimulate norepinephrine, but they seem to be making my OCD behaviors worse. Like I feel a lot more paranoid. On top of everything, I don’t know what to do with all this energy (like what do neurotypicals do with a normal amount of energy?). So I did some not-so-stable things tonight. Also I have therapy tomorrow for the first time in weeks and I’m so nervous. How do I explain that I feel a little better depression-wise but so much worse anxiety-wise/everything else? Plus doing old and new bad-maladaptive-depression behaviors?
My only human interaction today was very negative and I don’t know what to do with myself. I already distracted myself for a while and then I acted on behaviors anyway. I’m a little scared I’m going to keep making poor decisions tonight because I don’t feel strong enough to stop myself right now.
Sorry this was so long, I just got going and wanted to let everything out.

Gilbert is not dead, nor is he dying (literary and scientific support)

So, there’s a lot of hysteria going on about Prussia in the update, and to be honest, I’ve been absent recently (not from the fandom, just from the new comics.  I need to find time to catch up and read them all, but I’ve just been busy lately).  I only just now got around to reading that one comic, and from what I perceived, I’m not concerned.  Here’s why.

Theory 1

First and foremost, let’s look at Prussia’s character.  We know he has albinism and we also know he’s much shorter than Germany due to malnutrition.  But what we don’t know is what kind of albinism he has or why he suffered from malnutrition, whether it be from famine or simply because he ate a poor diet as a child because he was a picky eater.

In general, albinism doesn’t have any long term heal issues, aside from pigment related issues such as skin cancer or vision problems, but depending on the cause of his albinism, health issues may occur.

Herman-Pudlak syndrome (HPS) is a known cause of albinism, and unlike other kinds of albinism, HPS is caused by a gene defect and can often occur with bleeding disorders, and various lung and bowel diseases.

Knowing this we can say (assuming that Prussia has HPS if anything) that his malnutrition could’ve been caused by a bowel disease.  And though nutrition isn’t absorbed through the bowel, but through the small intestine, if he was suffering from constant abdominal pain or diarrhea as a kid, it’s safe to say he probably didn’t eat a lot, resulting in malnutrition.

So, still assuming Prussia had HPS, we can assume he possibly has a bleeding disorder or lung disease of some kind.  It’s known that poor oxygen delivery can lead to complications in healing, so if Prussia has a lung disease due to HPS, it’s possible his healing issues can be attributed to poor gas exchange in his lungs.  Poor gas exchange=low oxygen=slowed healing.  It’s possible that he may also have a bleeding disorder that may lead to decreased healing time.

Whatever it may be, his ailments may be attributed to his medical condition, not his country status.  Knowing that nations are immortal, medical ailments won’t kill them they way they kill humans, it’ll simply slow them down.  So, I feel it’s safe to say to say Gilbert is going to live if HPS is the root of his problems.

Theory 2

But now let’s say Prussia does not have HPS, and is hypothetically actually turning human.  Then what?

Well, you have nothing to worry about because of you look at his rate of aging, he would’ve probably started the transformation after his abolishment.  So, East Prussia dissolved shortly after WWII (nearly 70 years ago) and he is only just now showing signs of becoming human, then he will probably only be 1/3 human by the time you yourself are dead.  So, if that’s the case, all of these hypothetical tragic case scenarios won’t happen until you’re long gone.  And we all know Hetalia takes place in the past and present, so Prussia’s death won’t occur until after Hima himself is dead as well.  (Sorry.  I love hima and have no desire for him to die whatsoever, but it’s true.  If hima really wants wants Prussia to die, he’ll have to jump to the future.)

But I highly doubt  (Like extremely, highly, definitely, never in 100,000 years doubt) that Prussia is turning human though.  Here’s why.

The Roman Empire ceased to exist long before Prussia was even established, yet grandpa Rome still shows up occasionally to visit/annoy Germany.  So, what’s the deal with that?  If it’s true nations begin turning human after abolishment, wouldn’t Grandpa Rome have become elderly and eventually died?  It doesn’t make sense that Rome would continue to exist in youth for thousands of years after desolation while Prussia suddenly begins aging less than 70 years after his abolishment.

Even though Rome may no longer exist as a political nation, that doesn’t mean he’s not a county.  Nations are not people, nations do not turn into people, nations do not die, they simply retire.

(Here’s what I mean by retire.  For example, take a doctor.  They may practice medicine for 40 years, then retire, but they will always be a doctor.  Just because they’re no longer practicing, it doesn’t make them any less a doctor.  Nobody can take away their doctorate, they will always have that status.  Same with soldiers, just because they retire from the service doesn’t make them any less of a soldier, it just makes them a retired vet.  If a captain retires, they are a retired captain. They do not loose their status.  This is the same for counties, just because they’re no longer politicly or economically active doesn’t mean they’re dead, they’re simply retired.)

So, what my personal theory of all this is, is a nation is always a nation, and therefore will always be immoral.  But their metabolism and rate of healing etc. is like their economy and political status.  Prussia is immortal because he’s a country (and always will be, he’s just retired) but due to the fact that his economy, wealth, military strength, and political status are nonexistent today, aspects of himself have probably changed.  Though he’s immortal, his healing speed is not what it once was, his strength is probably not what it once was either.  (Think of America, he was able to swing buffalo around as a child and drag a car behind him.  Then England was pretty strong once too, but as he lost “world power” status, his strength seemed to leave him, making him seem closer to a human in strength than America.)  Gilbert probably has become more human in some aspects such as healing and physical strength, but that doesn’t make him any less of country or any less immortal than he once was.

Theory 3

And one last point before I finish.  I personally believe Hima loves Prussia too much to kill him off.  Why would Hima include Prussia in so much of his art and make him such a prominent character in his comics when he’s honestly not even that relevant.  There are plenty of characters that play a larger role in history and today’s events, but Hima still chooses to incorporate Prussia into his work.  Prussia has a halloween costume and several official pieces of art.  Several relevant countries still do not.  Why would Hima do that then kill him off? That doesn’t make sense.

I don’t think Hima really even meant anything by it.  I honestly think the only point he was trying to establish (if he was trying to make a point at all) is that Gilbert is simply not as powerful and healthy as he once was.  Gil was bitten by a dog, that’s it. He’s not dying, he’s just demonstrating the fact he’s not the kingdom he once was.  Gilbert is fine.

And may I remind you, Gilbert is not the only country that gets hurt then has to take time to recover.  Russia jumped out of an airplane then needed time to heal.  Italy gets hurt all the time, whether it be the butt of a gun to his face, or Austria whacking him on the head when he was little, or the fact that gelato gives him a stomach ache.  England had that cold with a fever and was bedridden, he was also hit by that falling star then “went home with a head ache”.  Canada was hurt by America’s pitches in Baseball, and is freaked out by his chainsaw (implying that bodily injury was possible).

Bumps and bruises are not unusual to countries.  I believe what Germany meant by “it should heal instantly” was simply the fact that he’s use to Prussia as he was before his abolishment.  (70 years in the eyes of a nation is not that long)  And since Gil has not been in any wars since 1947 (after wwii) it’s likely Germany hasn’t seen Gilbert with any injuries since then, making it only natural that he would assume Prussia’s wound would heal instantly.  Just because Gilbert doesn’t heal instantly anymore doesn’t mean he’s dying.  Though his rate of recovery might change, he will always be country, he will always be immortal.

10 things NOT to do to somebody with oxygen

1) don’t pull on the tubes. This isn’t cute or funny. It’s just annoying. And if you’re like me I fasten the tubing tightly so this hurts my ears
2) don’t ask how long they can survive without there suplanental oxygen. Chances are it would take a long time for them to die, but most oxygen dependent people began to become sickly within an hour after losing their oxygen
3) do not ask if you can try their nasal cannula on. a) that’s gross. B) it’s fucking wired, what are you 4?
4) do not assume they have cancer. We do not live in the book The Fault in our Stars. People can have a wide range of lung syndromes and diseases
5) do not move their oxygen compressor or tank. Just don’t. There is no reason to do this
6) don’t stair at them like they are a freak of nature. If you must know, ask nicely.
7) don’t assume they will pass out two seconds after they remove their cannula. If they remove there oxygen obviously they know what they are doing.
8) do not freak out if the person starts coughing. If they have a lung condition coughing will happen. If the fit persists, ask if they need anything. Listen to what they say.
9) don’t refer to their need for oxygen as “they can’t breathe without it” because they can breath, suplanental oxygen is used when the O2 levels are too low in somebody’s body. This can be caused by many things not related to the lungs, such as blood disorders.
10) DO NOT baby the person. This goes for anybody with any kind of disease or condition. We are capable. If we need help we will ask.

This isn't super urgent but the sooner the better I guess. I'm a trans male that is currently having a lung disorder diagnosed and regardless of the results, I'll never be able to bind safely again. I'm getting top surgery in two years which is cool but I find it near impossible to go outside without binding and now that I can't I'm so lost. Are there any alternatives that put too much pressure on your chest?

Ren says:

If you’re having a lung disorder diagnosed…gosh, honey, I’m not sure I would bind. A sports bra is probably your best bet? I have costochondritis and a sports bra helps - doesn’t fix it but helps - and I know that some individuals with asthma have found that to be helpful, too.

It’s just…not safe. Don’t get me wrong, I know what dysphoria is like, I know what it’s like to not be able to use your usual coping mechanisms for medical reasons. And it’s not fair. But if you don’t keep up with your physical health, top surgery in two years will mean nothing.

So I advise that you go for non-stressful techniques: use a sports bra, wear masc-cut clothing, wear dark tops and face the world confident knowing that you are a boy whether folks can see your boops or not. Does that fix things? No. I won’t claim that it will. But it will help you make it to two years from now, and that’s what you should focus on.

Sending you all the love I’ve got, my friend.

What does your engagement ring look like?

ready for some baby hands?

also, stubby nails and cuticles in need of some tlc.
BUT here’s the ring.  it actually just came in a couple days ago.  it’s a rhodolite garnet and I got it from https://www.etsy.com/shop/fifthheaven

I was going back and forth on a few different stones, but eventually chose this one because I really loved it’s meaning/healing properties.
“It helps one receive abundance on an emotional level, stimulating one’s sense of self-worth and alleviating feelings of inadequacy. It assists in owning one’s gifts and abilities, and sharing them with others.
Garnet is a crystal of inspiration and emotional healing. It encourages love, kindness and compassion, and promotes self-worth and spiritual growth. It is especially helpful in recovery of sexual abuse, guilt or shame. It aids in the treatment of heart and lung disorders, and enhances metabolism and healthy sexuality. Rhodolite supports the Base, Heart and Crown Chakras, is attuned to many Guardian Angels, and honors four Goddesses. It falls under the zodiac sign of Aquarius and is the natural birthstone of those born from mid-autumn to just after the winter solstice. It has an elemental Fire Energy, and is an Enhancer Strengthener talisman.

The Game of Settlers of Catan

Kramer eats a large meal of numerous sandwiches, then proceeds to drink seventeen beers before taking a fast-acting laxative. Furiously drunk, he rips off his pants and walks out onto the street, slobber dripping from his mouth and stumbling aimlessly. He shouts at the top of his lungs: “I’m causing a disorder! It’s me, I’m doing it!” It is not long before the police arrest him, cuffing his hands and shoving him in the back of a patrol car.

George, Elaine, and Jerry play a game of Settlers of Catan, but Elaine and Jerry are rendered immobile with laughter when George requests “sheep for wood.”

After several minutes of awkward silence, Kramer attempts to make conversation with the two policemen in the front of the patrol car. “You know I’m a professionally trained magician?” he asks. One of the officers grunts noncommittally. “That means I know how to throw up on demand. You know, in case I swallowed a key for an escape act.” Thrown off by Kramer’s apparent sobriety, the cop in the passenger seat widens his eyes in sudden realization, but too late: Kramer erupts in a geyser of puke for twelve solid seconds. “No!” the policeman shouts. Kramer laughs maniacally, still without pants, and a stream of urine rises to the ceiling of the car. After a minute and a half of the car speeding down the street, pee splashing against the ceiling, the stream stops. “Thank God,” the driver says. “Oh, no, don’t say that just yet,” Kramer says. Immediately, he is stricken with Montezuma’s Revenge of a legendary sort. “IT’S YOUR CAR, PIGS!” he shouts.

Kramer’s deranged laughter deafens the officers, bounces off the skyscrapers, echoes through Hoboken across the river.

Ammonite

Primary Chakras: Third Eye, Root
Astrological signs: Aquarius, Cancer
Vibration: Number 9

The Ammonite is a very powerful earth healing fossil. Its Fibonacci spiral shape symbolizes continual change and evolution. Ammonites have absorbed cosmic energy over eons of time and help to stimulate the life force (Chi)  within. Ammonites are often used for activating Kundalini and life path energies. The Ammonite is also often recommended to put in the home to attract health, prosperity and success.

The Ammonite draws off all negative energies. Think of the spirals as a filter, drawing in these dense energies which are no longer needed, moving them through the spirals and releasing them as fresh, positive, loving life force energies.

Physically, Ammonites can help to increase stamina and vitality. Use Ammonites when working with issues of blood pressure or problems with the ears, lungs and degenerative disorders. Ammonites will also help to lift the heaviness that is sometimes felt during depression

DAY 2710

Jalsa, Mumbai                Sept 10/11,  2015               Thu/Fri  12:12 am

Ef Ganesh Lahoti birthday on Sept 11,  2015 .. and our wishes as always go out to him for a wonderful day and days ahead ..

the signing of the pledge .. with luminaries ..

Mr Ratan Tata on the left .. the Chairman and the illustrious member of the most recognised industrial family in the country ..

And on the right His Excellency the Ambassador of the United States of America, Mr Richard Verma .. person of Indian origin, now naturalised American and in a coveted post ..

expressing views in person on the campaign of TB ..

the signing of the pledge .. and the generous contribution by the United States towards the cause ..

addressing the Medical luminaries of the nation along with corporate heads, getting them to participate in this endeavour ..

… and finally briefing the press and the media on the event ..

standing by the national flag .. respect and honour ..

… and below a most humble Mr Ratan Tata, asking me to lead the way as we exit from the conference ..

I won the tussle, just for your information .. my gentle, impertinent, yet humorous quip “ err .. age before beauty, Mr Tata” won the moment ..

Mr Tata laughed over it humbly and said he would remember this one ..

And another social cause initiated for the people of the nation, for those that suffer, for those that are devoid of medication or even the elementary detection of the disease, for those that face discrimination, women facing charges of being alienated from society because they ail, not getting acceptance in marriage because they suffer the ailment, rebuked and discarded almost for being the cause of bringing illness into a family …

Getting rid of TB is not just a campaign to eradicate the ailment or the disease, it is a cause as social or moral as life itself …

I feel honoured that the Ambassador of the United States of America Mr Richard Verma, initiated this campaign along with institutions that carry concern for the cause, medical, corporate, personal bodies, collecting together to contribute in what ever they can, and eventually the assistance and concern by the Government authorities to help those in need .. a most laudable venture and thrust ..

For me of course having already been involved with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai in their campaign against TB, and having been appointed as the brand ambassador for them, it was a personal decision to accept the brand ambassadorship for the eradication of TB on a national level as well, tonight.

Personal tragedies or experiences at times gives incentive to dedicate what we learnt during the process to a cause which reaches out to millions ..

I have said this before and shall not hesitate to say it again. I am a TB survivor. In the year 2000, as I was about to start my first TV involvement with KBC, I was quite by chance detected to be suffering from tuberculosis. There was unbearable pain in the lower back region and on a random routine examination TB was discovered to have affected my spine. There were black patches that were noticed and I had to go through an entire course of cure for a year, through intake of tablets .. about 8 every day !

In a years time I was cured, the patches disappeared and I am alive today to talk to you about it. This is not the story. The story is that TB is normally associated with regions and individuals that live in lesser environs, belong to lesser privileged communities, are poor, are existing in congested conditions, are generally suffering from lung disorders , and who in the past were alienated and sent off away from all to sanatoriums, preferably in the mountain regions, in order to receive the purity of nature and its obvious cure.

But in my immodesty I proclaim, that if it could happen to me it could happen to anyone. We who are termed often as the affluent elite, a terminology and expression I absolutely detest and most certainly do not subscribe to, are not supposed to be affected by, of all diseases, tuberculosis !! But there we are .. and there I am ..

So .. in many ways my involvement in most of these medical campaigns comes from the fact that I have had the ‘good fortune’ to have been afflicted by them ! And that does not merely insure that I am a natural choice for its awareness efforts, it is also my own personal belief and desire, as a continued medical victim of various and diverse health conditions, that gives me impetus !

The grace of the Lord and the Almighty has been with me and kept me away from perishing permanently through the various conditions that I have been through, and the various conditions that I may still be prone to - who knows - but whatever eventually is in store for me, good bad or indifferent, shall not deviate my attention from working towards the many such medical ventures that I am presently conditioned with …

This and tonight has been TB … but there are other causes too, on the format. Diabetes, Hepatitis B, that I have worked for and shall continue to do so ..

There is now the Tiger Preservation Campaign, not just for the nation but in particular, recently, as I informed, for the State of Maharashtra.

There is another vital campaign for ‘Khadi’ , the hand woven material for clothing. The ‘charkha’ of Gandhi ji, and the symbol of many cottage industry efforts, which churns out the fine thread which goes into the making of the sheaths of ‘khadi’ material, thereby not just keeping the industry alive, but also providing employment to those millions of workers and hand weavers that earn their livelihood through this medium.

This then is the medical side of the terrain. There are several other peaks too, that are getting addressed and committed to. But those are some that do not need to be spoken about.

Charity and voluntary work is a noble laudable effort that individuals and large organisations make. We applaud them and their desire to give to society. Give to them from whom they earn. Give to them who lighten up your financial bottom lines. Many talk about it, inform the public at large through media and connects of what they have done and are doing. Good !

But there are some that do not wish to talk about it. I am one such. I find it awkward, self aggrandising, and an unnecessary practice to follow. There are others that do quite the opposite, and thrive on it. Good too !! That is their outlook and desire and why not. To each his or her own.

But to be labelled as one that does not care or give back, merely because you have not read or known about it, does not in the least qualify you in any manner whatsoever, to seek explanation, espouse criticism, cast aspersions and bring to use a vocabulary, that can best be described as exceptionally vulgar !!

I bear the brunt of such criticism and vulgarity on a regular basis. I am immune to them. I read of them - here on this platform, the social medium and many other - but have not found it justifiable to bring it to public notice. Not the matter of abuse, but the matter of the charity  ..

There are those then of this generation and decade and time, that express differently. For them ‘jungle mein mor nacha kisne dekha’   … the peacock, the national bird, danced in the forest, but who noticed it ? Communicate they say. Let all be spoken about. It must be reached out to millions to know of what you do. Posterity shall never ever have a history, written or otherwise of what was done. We rely today, they say, on what the historians of the ‘written word’ of the times gone by are described by such. Is it not possible that many an unknown truth be devoid of our knowledge, because someone with pen and paper did not find it important enough to record !!

The future generation, say the nay sayers, could well be devoid of all the required information, primarily because it was devoid of documentation ..

And before the entire Ef shall descend upon me to document my biography after this, let me reassure them for the nth time, that that is not going to happen. A departure from what I may have preached .. haha !!!

There is so much more to pay attention to, to gain knowledge from, to indulge in for the betterment of the self, that a few uninteresting years of a ‘third rate actor from a third world country’, shall not be of any value whatsoever …

Sleep is an essentiality. Long and sensible hours of sleep is an invigorating eventuality. I must indulge in what I preach .. haha ..

Good night .. !!
