Here’s the good news and the bad news: you’re not supposed to be happy all the time. Life hurts and it’s hard. It’s not because you’re doing it wrong, but because it hurts for everybody. Don’t avoid the pain. You need it. It’s meant for you. Be still with it, let it come, let it go, let it leave you with the fuel you’ll burn to get your work done on this earth.

The truth about your heart. Your heart will fix itself. It’s your mind you need to worry about. Your mind where you locked the memories, your mind where you have kept pieces of the ones that hurt you, that still cut through you like shards of glass. Your mind will keep you up at night, make you cry, destroy you over and over again. You need to convince your mind that it has to let go because your heart already knows how to heal.

Luna’s first Christmas. She’s the most adorable trouble maker. Everyone told me a new pet during clerkship year was a bad idea but I think it was the BEST idea. Having someone else to focus on besides school was a gift. Of course the late night and early morning meowing when we first got her was not the best. We may have even contemplated Benadryl when we were most sleep deprived (joking of course), but she become our cuddle buddy, a study pal, a study break (sometimes involuntarily) and an irreplaceable member of our family (okay the roommate hates when I use the word family, sorry M. A member of our… Cohabiting unit ;) ) and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
