Summary: Of all the things Lucy was expecting that night, a fire in
the apartment across the hall was not one of them. Getting handcuffed to her
bed also wasn’t part of the plan, but at least they’ll have a fun story to tell
at their wedding.
Rating: T (rated for Lucy’s potty mouth and implications at the end)
AN: Happy birthday @soprana-snap! I’ve had this idea for a bit and figured you might enjoy it <3
In hindsight, letting Dan handcuff her to the bed was
probably a bad decision on her part. Not only does her wrist hurt from him
locking it too tight, but she also can’t do anything but watch in absolute
horror as he rips away from her neck, eyes wide, and falls off of the bed in
his hurry to get away from her. Her family always did say she had a talent for
driving men away, but she never thought it was this bad.
Lucy stares down at Dan, sitting up as best she can to peer
over the side of the bed, and that’s when the obnoxious, shrill sound of a fire
alarm reaches her ears. “Oh, shit,” she mumbles to herself, suddenly feeling
very exposed in her lacy underwear. Smothering a laugh, Lucy tries to stand
before remembering the cuff on her wrist. She turns to ask Dan for help, only
to find the man stumbling to him feet in a panic. He glances around wildly,
fingers twitching at his sides, and Lucy’s reminded of a very stupid squirrel
that can’t decide whether it wants to run into traffic or stay on the damn
“Dan?” she murmurs, nudging at him with her foot. He glances
at her, shaking his head as he mumbles something she can’t hear, and spins in a
quick circle. “Dan, what are you doing?” she asks again, frustration creeping
into her voice as he freaks out. On any other day, she would probably panic,
but this is the third fire of the week and she knows it’s just Warrod from down
next door forgetting about his pot-roast in the oven again. It’s really nothing
to worry about so long as he grabs the fucking
key and lets her out.
He backs into the nightstand, knocking it onto it’s side,
and Lucy flinches as her favorite lamp shatters across the floor, ceramic
pieces splintering and creating a mess that she’ll have to clean up before
Happy or Plue hurt themselves. “Fuck,” Dan swears, running a hand through his
rumpled hair. He pulls his lip between his teeth, then stoops, scooping his
shirt into his arms and yanking it down over his head. “I can’t—” He stops
suddenly, shaking his head, and sends Lucy an apologetic look.
Sighing, Lucy purses her lips, eyes rolling as she glares at
her boyfriend. “Dan,” she says slowly, smiling at him as best she can despite
wanting to rip his head off, “just unlock me so we can go.” She covers her bare
stomach with her arm, curling up slightly, shy now that they’re no longer in
the heat of the moment.
It’s always been like that with Dan. She always ends up
feeling uncomfortable whenever they aren’t doing something physical. Though,
that might be because he rarely sticks around for anything besides that. They
don’t know how to talk to each other, and Lucy’s finding it to be more draining
than anything else.
She thinks Romeo may be right: she should just dump him and
find something better than whatever this
Dan nods slowly, patting himself down as he searches for the
key, then goes very still. “I don’t—oh shit,” he whispers, growing frantic as
he doesn’t find it. Lucy slaps her forehead, rubbing at her temple and silently
cursing the day she met Dan, suddenly wishing she’d never accepted his offer
for a date at the sushi bar—which was actually the worst date she’s ever been
on, but oh well. This is ridiculous
and she can’t believe this is happening to her.
He lost the goddamn key.
Excellent. Lucy groans, curling in on herself and resisting
the urge to throw herself out the window—something she obviously can’t do
because she’s still fucking cuffed to her
damn bed. She didn’t even want to do this in the first place, but somehow
she let him talk her into trying now things—a horrible idea, really—and now she’s
stuck to her bed, there’s a fire, and Dan looks like he’s about to piss himself
or start crying.
She’s never going to let Lisanna set her up on a date again.
Lucy decides that maybe it’s not that bad. It’s just a small
fire, and Dan can probably get one of them to cut her loose. They’ll all have a
laugh over this, no one will ever let Lucy forget about this moment, and some
sexy firefighter is going to have a lovely story to tell all of his friends over
dirt cheap wine and stale donuts. It’s a simple fix, really.
And that’s the exact moment that Dan decides to bolt for the
door without a word.
For a moment, Lucy can only stare, her mouth dropping open
as he fumbles with her doorknob, yanking it open a moment later. Her cat Happy
bolts into the room, disappearing under her bed, and Plue barks out in the main
room, whining by the door as he urges her to hurry. “Dan?” Lucy shrieks,
watching him slip out, the door beginning to close behind him. “What are you—Dan,
what the fuck!” she screams, lunging to her feet. Panic wells in her chest as
he glances back at her, hesitating for only a moment.
“I’m sorry, Babe,” he sputters, shrugging, “but I—” He
simply shrugs again, then turns and slams the door behind him, leaving Lucy
alone and stuck on her bed, a fire burning in her neighbors apartment.
“Dan!” she calls after him, tears burning at her eyes, more
from the betrayal of him just leaving her in potential danger than the
potential danger. It should be an easy fire to put out, but that doesn’t mean
he can just leave her here. “Dan, you
piece of shit!” Lucy snarls, yanking at her wrist violently.
It holds fast, the metal digging into her wrist painfully, a
bruise already forming from her continued tugging, and Lucy bites back a sob as
she drops back onto her bed, curling up tight and hoping she isn’t stuck in
here until Romeo comes home later. The last thing she wants is for her younger
brother to find her half-naked and handcuffed to a bed.

A/N; Hey guys! Finally catching up on all the prompts in my inbox! This is from @papalogia ‘s prompt list !
14) “I come to the library every day to ‘study’ but really I’m just watching Netflix over your shoulder and I’m really invested in this series and the day we’re supposed to be watching the season finale you’re not there and I??? Feel personally betrayed??”
Lucy sat down at her desk, flipped open her 17th-century literature notes, sat her triple shot extra vanilla caramel macchiato on the table, her textbook beside her, and finally looked up.
He wasn’t there.
Where the hell was he?
It was 5:30, Lucy was settled into her spot at the last table between Row Ba and Bu, and yet the table in front of her was glaring empty.
How the fuck was she going to find out how this season of White Collar ended?
Honestly, it wasn’t even Lucy’s fault she was addicted to that show. She had been sitting innocently in the library two weeks ago when she noticed the guy in front of her, not studying. Even if Lucy hadn’t done a double take on his neon pink hair and double bars in his left ear she would have noticed his screen playing the show just in front of him. It’s not like Lucy had been staring at him, it’s just that she had to look past him to watch his stupid laptop.
Look, Lucy couldn’t afford Netflix and she wasn’t about to risk her own laptop going on one of those shady sites just so she could find out if Niel managed to pull the scam or if he’d stay on the good side with the agent.
But God did she want to find out. Lucy looked down, worrying her lip. She probably could study like she had meant to every time she came here, but after the let down of mystery-boy not showing up Lucy just didn’t have the energy to do it. Dejected, she packed up her notes and textbook, putting in her headphones as she headed to the doors.
Lucy was halfway back to her dorm when something hard slammed into her shoulder, sending her sprawling on her ass in the grass beside the sidewalk. She rubbed her back, scowling at the boy who had caused her fall. He sat across from her, also having fallen from the collision. Her drink coated the pavement beside, thankfully missing her clothes.
The boy however, was not so lucky with his own drink.
“Aw, fuck,” he complained, arms cast to the side as he tried to keep himself from touching the red stain the was dripping down his front. And making his tank top cling to his defined muscles. Damn. It was like one of those meet cutes she read online.
Lucy’s bad mood was starting to ebb away until she looked at his face. It was a very good face, but Lucy’s attention was stolen from looking at it more closely by the bright pink colour of his hair. And the piercings in his ear, two bars on the left and smaller plugs in his lobes. And another two in his lip and eyebrow.
Lucy pointed her finger at him, clambering onto her knees. The boy blinked at her in confusion, bright eyes green and wide as his gaze flicked between her finger and her face.
“Uh, do I know you?” he asked, lips thinning when Lucy huffed.
“You weren’t in the library! Where were you? I waited for like ten minutes to watch the stupid season finale and you never showed up!” She said hotly. Lucy pouted when the boy started to laugh.
“You’re the weirdo who always watches my laptop with me!”
“Uh,” Lucy mumbled, flushing harder.
“Was wondering if you’d just stop eventually,” he grinned at her, no malice and a light teasing dancing in his forest green colouring.
“Well then why did you have the subtitles on?” Lucy asked hotly. Honestly, if he had noticed and thought she was weird then why wouldn’t he have just turned them off?
The boy gave her a knowing grin before moving his hands. Realization dawned on Lucy and she felt heat creep up her neck in shame.
“Oh my God he’s deaf,” she whispered to himself.
“And his name is Natsu,” the boy grinned at her, laughing at Lucy jolting and her high squeak. “I can read lips, Weirdo.” Lucy covered her mouth, stopping herself from saying anything else that might offend Natsu. They sat in silence, Lucy worrying her lip. She stood up finally, gathering her bag and offering her hand to Natsu. He gave her an odd look, taking it anyway and smiling at her easily when she helped him up.
“I have a laundry machine in my dorm,” she said slowly, looking at his lip ring pointedly.
“Ya don’t have to,” Natsu started, shocked at her offer. Lucy shrugged, blushing as she realized they were still holding hands.
“Its my fault you spilled your drink all over yourself,” Lucy mumbled, blushing when she realized that Natsu probably couldn’t understand her. She shrugged anyway, pulling Natsu with her. Why’d he have to be so cute though? Ugh, Lucy just wanted to bury herself in her blankets and sleep for a week.
“You know I didn’t hate sharing my laptop with ya. Thought it was a little weird, but I mean look at me. Deaf punk college chem student. I ain’t exactly gonna judge ya for it.” Natsu shrugged, giving her another easy smile. Lucy smiled back, watching the concrete in front of them for a couple seconds. Steeling herself, she tapped on his arm, turning to face him but still only looking at his lip ring. It was silver with a red jewel in the middle, and Lucy thought it stood out nicely against his skin.
“I don’t think you’re weird.” She said, picking up the pace as she pulled Natsu along behind her.
“You don’t even know me yet! What’s your name anyway, Weirdo?”
Lucy pouted at the reoccurring nickname. “It’s Lucy,” She grumbled.
“Lushi?” Natsu sounded out.
“No,” Lucy said, meeting Natsu’s eyes. “Lu-see.” She over-pronounced it, trying her best to make it easier for Natsu to understand.
“Lu-shi,” Natsu sang, slinging his arm over her shoulder. Lucy scoffed as she realized he was making fun of her, elbowing him in the side. She was vindicated when he grunted, his sniggers cut off as she caught his kidney. “So violent,” he mumbled, and Lucy looked at him as she worked out if he had meant for her to hear or not. Deciding he hadn’t meant to speak out loud she let it go, fishing for her key in her bag.
“Uh,” Natsu said, Lucy looking up at him as he scratched the side of his face awkwardly. “We can finish watching White Collar while my shirt’s in the wash?” Natsu offered. Lucy smiled, nodding slightly as she bit her lip to stop it from getting too large. “Cool,” Natsu said, a little loudly. Lucy giggled, ducking her head. Looks like Lucy might be getting her meet-cute anyway.
Haha I just love how I binge read the comic and some people are just SOBBING at how long Lucy was gone while I'm here like "Haha! Suckers! I just got here!" Yknow? Man it's amazing. But yeah I love how you've done this! I know the timespan would have had more affect for those who stuck actuall waited the 4(?) years. The charachter development is just absolutely lovely!
Veronica: HAHAHA YOU’RE LUCKY
I don’t mind that the wait is over! I feel the comic reads better now that Lucy’s back, she’s still gone for MANY pages so there’s still wait involved when reading the archives! It’s at least something to look forward to now, rather than binging the whole comic and going “Oh wow she STILL isn’t back?!?!”
“Ah, sorry, I’m not much of a dancer.” Prompto mumbled to his feet after he once again stepped on the prince of Lucis’ toes. “Could have fooled me,” Noctis smiled warmly, pulling Prompto closer, “Do they not have balls in Niflheim?” Prompto paused, his face falling slightly as he lowered his gaze to the floor “Well…ah, no. Not really.”
Insomnia welcomes Niflheim into their kingdom will a ball, and although Noctis usually hates any kind of social event, surprisingly this one has become a little more interesting. Another scene I had in mind for my Niflheim prince Prompto AU. I’m planning on drawing a few more things because I’ve received so much encouragement, I hope y’all like angst, cause thats where this AU is headed.
