low lighthouse

Seen a couple of people pointing out Topaz seems to have the same gem cut as the lighthouse gem and assuming that means LG is a topaz, to which, my rebuttal:

The Rubies we’ve seen have gems with a square central facet, but, left shoulder Amethyst in Gem Heist (reddish skin, chipped tooth) has the same cut.

Aquamarine and Lapis have the same pear cut cabochon. Actually, if they were both poofed, it’d probably be difficult to tell them apart as they’re both blue stones- Aquamarine would seem to have a smaller, paler-colored gem than Lapis’s, which glows a similar color but is darker when not glowing.

Furthermore, “our” Jasper, unlike all of the other Jaspers we’ve seen, has a kite-shaped gem cut rather than the round cabochon we see on the other Jaspers at the zoo.

Roughly: it’s possible for Gems of two different types to have the same cut, and for Gems of the same type to have different cuts. So we can’t say for sure if LG is a topaz.

I still personally lean on the idea of labradorite, because Topaz’s gems are uniformly bright-colored, even in low lighting- conversely, the lighthouse gem as we see has bright facets right next to very dark ones.

This would seem to invoke the particular iridescence labradorite gemstones have- they seem to be murky colored stones but flash vivid colors if the light catches them at the right angle- often a ghostly blue. LG’s powers also seem very air-themed- manipulating objects by spinning them in a whirlwind, repeating voices and sounds, and breathing life into statues- which would fit with the lore around labradorite gemstones, who are sometimes purported to have gotten their color from the northern lights.

John Constable (1776–1837, England)

Landscapes 3

Constable was a Romantic painter, and along with Turner is considered the finest of all Englishlandscape painters. Known principally for his depictions of Dedham Vale, the area surrounding his home, which he invested with an intensity of affection. “I should paint my own places best”, he wrote to his friend John Fisher in 1821, “painting is but another word for feeling”.
