“I was going to say I wished we’d never come. But I don’t, I don’t, I don’t. Even if we are killed. I’d rather be killed fighting for Narnia than grow old and stupid at home and perhaps go about in a bath-chair and then die in the end just the same.”

No, not really. She had a bit of a crush on Darien, but honestly at this point she’d be perfectly happy with just getting her friend back in one piece (Noelie is one of the few who firmly belives he’s still out there somewhere, no matter how improbable it seems). Aside from that I haven’t really come across anyone who’d be her type - yet.
You said the narrative is tricking us into illusion and stuff. That kinda frighten me. Does that mean...Arima doesnt actually love Kaneki ??? ;;;-;;;
No!!!! I don’t think that’s what’s happening at all. I think Arima most certainly did love Kaneki. However, like the meta I linked in my ask argues, I feel that ch. 85′s tone seems almost contradictory to how we saw Kaneki relate to their relationship. And while there is nothing wrong with the dialogue becoming positive for a change, it’s just suspicious how this largely positive depiction of their relationship contradicts how Kaneki talked about it less than five chapters ago. Their relationship – while a loving one – is very nuanced in its balance between mistreatment and healthy interactions. And with Kaneki suddenly thinking of his and Arima’s interactions in a totally different way after hearing that Arima cared about him back, it makes you worried that our unreliable narrator of a main character is falling back into his pattern of erasing the bad or tense elements of his relationship with someone who has mistreated him.
”It starts out as a kind of triangle and then I’m thrown together with Han Solo. It ends up being one of those relationships like Tracy and Hepburn or Bogart and Bacall or Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, where we scream at each other for the first half of the film, step on each other and hit on each other, and then we end up liking each other.”Carrie Fisher
