So today I got some BEAUTIFUL clothes in the mail from @asos and when I first opened the package, I was thinking “I should probably wear shapewear with these…” And then I was like “no. fuck that. I am going to wear these dresses without squeezing my body into all this suffocating shapewear.” And I did. And it was probably one of the most validating and helpful experiences.
Every dress fits of course because they are my correct size, but I don’t have this “ideal” or “perfect” shape because I didn’t put on the shapewear.
I’m wearing a slip with every dress of course, but that still keeps my original shape, whereas the shapewear basically smooths everything out and creates a different shape.
And it’s okay that I don’t have this “more perfect/more acceptable” shape now.
I am going to wear clothes I feel comfortable and confident in still, and I’m going to wear clothes that fit me, but I think I’m going to start worrying less about the shapewear. I would much rather be who I am in this moment than completely hide it.
I do feel really confident and pretty without the shapewear. I don’t feel beautiful (yet), but I’ve had a smile on my face the whole time trying on these dresses without the shapewear and I think that really says something about me becoming more body positive and accepting myself for who I am, flaws and all. #loveyourflawz #effyourbeautystandards #honormycurves #healthyisthenewskinny
