love this book you guys

We dangerous ones

Aaah, the Lethifold! One of my favourite creatures from reading the book as a child. Thanks to @zinfandelli for suggesting it as a creature, I was psyched to draw Credence with one.
(And of course I saw the official design on the bluray just as I was about to start colouring, and had to change up a bunch of stuff from my sketch haha)

Ya know what? Shoutout to supportive ass friends.

To friends who have no idea what you’re talking about but will listen to you ramble about something you love.

Friends who send you things about something they don’t even like/follow just because they know you like it.

Friends who make sure you take care of yourself.

Friends who let you know its okay to feel sad, angry, unhappy. Who let you feel safe when you’re vulnerable.

Friends who will go anywhere and do anything with you with the barest bones of a plan.

Just. I know sometimes we forget to say thank you, to say i love you, to say i appreciate the little things you do. So this is just a general thank you for being my friend.

But it does matter. It matters so much it makes your bones ache longing for something, someone to save you. It matters so much that it’s eating you alive but you’re too afraid to tell a soul.

You know what I love about the foxhole court?

It features a canon lgbt relationship between a gay boy and a demisexual boy, a relationship that isn’t even a main focus of the books but still manages to contribute to both the plot and the character development.

A same-sex relationship that doesn’t end tragically, that shows these two characters staying together for years to come and leading a healthy domestic life with two cats, an apartment and a joint career.

A relationship that may not start out well, that is anything but love at first sight, but grows so much through personal struggles and mutual respect, and results in something worthwhile.

A relationship that places heavy emphasis not only on mutual consent, on learning and supporting, on protection and respect, but also on individual independence.

A relationship that doesn’t cast other characters to the sidelines, that isn’t the main character’s only source of happiness, because it takes more than romance to develop a character.

A relationship with a goddamn happy ending that feels entirely deserving for both characters because this is how they love, this is how they overcome their past, this is how they grow, not dependent on each other but side-by-side.

Just a goddamn happy same-sex relationship that doesn’t end in death or separation and that involves characters actually learning to respect and love each other basically???

God I’m so tired or your bullshit!” I yelled

“Sorry that I changed! But that’s what high school does to you you grow up. Why are you mad at me for that?!” She exclaimed

“No you didn’t just ‘change’. You’re not the same person I fell in love with.”

“What are you talking about?”

“You’re so invested in high school. You’re so invested in being popular and having an infinite group of friends that you forgot life is not just about those four years.” I sigh

“Apparently you even forgot who you really are. Don’t come running back to me when you do.

#LoveLetterstoLiteraryCharacters

So I wrote this for @_fullybooked ‘s Valentine’s contest where we have to write a love letter to a fictional character. (They’re giving away a book set and steak. Yup you heard me. Steak. And dinner for two whoop! hahaha)

I wasn’t able to post the whole version since Instagram has a word limit so I thought I’d share it here. lol don’t laugh, okay? I’m in love with this guy. <3 This is my letter to Will Herondale from @cassandraclare‘s Infernal Devices series. The photo edit was taken from @the-manila-institute

Dearest William,

It is a bit odd writing this letter to you. I’ve been wanting to for a long time but people would think me insane to be addressing someone who, quite frankly does not really exist in the real world. A fictional character—a mere creation of the human mind. But seeing that there is an opportunity where I will not be judged if I do, I have gladly taken it; overjoyed to finally be able to say to you what I’ve wanted to say the very moment I turned to the very last page.

William. Did you know you wore the name so well? In French it means: “determined protector”; the epitome of who you are as I’ve read from the Infernal Devices series. I was in high school when I met you, and had the honor of being by your side as I read through your adventures with Tessa, Jem, and the other Shadowhunters. Every fight, every war left me in awe as you fought them with such skill. (And you knew that very well too.)

My first impression of you: you’re going to be someone I won’t like but would end up liking in the end anyway. You were rude, arrogant, reckless, excessively cocky, and did I mention rude? Yes, I believe so. In retrospect, you were everything I didn’t like—except maybe the fact that you were an incredibly gorgeous human being with deep blue eyes, that even you yourself are in love with. I liked Jem more in all honesty and would probably get along with him better than I would with you.

But as I got deeper into the story, I learned there’s more to you, Will. Behind the sarcasm and rude disposition was a caring young man who would risk everything for the people he loves. I discovered your past and suddenly…everything changed. Or maybe I’ve known it all along but didn’t let myself see it.

I couldn’t pinpoint the exact time—or page—I fell in love with you. But know that I did. I really did and it was like a lullaby; a slow journey. I guess it started when you expressed your devotion for the written text. Your love for books was wonderful and I guess I saw myself in you and related a lot to your thoughts.

Your words spoke to me, touched my heart. And for the first time, I saw someone as my other half. Perhaps we were twins in another life for we think very much alike.

“It was books that made me feel that perhaps I was not completely alone. They could be honest with me, and I with them.” - Will

Your words continue to haunt me to this day—your words of love, your witty remarks, and even the snarky and sarcastic ones that make me want to hurl a chair at you. Being a writer, I breathe and live words and you are the first person (I don’t care if you’re not real) who understood what it’s like to be that way. Maybe you are just a fictional character, but I believe Cassandra Clare has shaped you in the image of real people, so you must exist somewhere. I hope I find someone who would want to listen to me talk about books and my stories “until their ears fell off”. I hope I find someone half as passionate as you are; who is incredibly strong but felt too deeply it leaves me breathless…

Someone who can easily express himself in words so beautifully; and would say these words to me the way you did to Tessa:

“Life is a book, and there are a thousand pages I have not yet read. I would read them together with you, as many as I can, before I die—“

You’re simply wonderful Will, and it breaks my heart a little knowing I can only be with you through the pages of a book. But just so you know, I would gladly read it over and over again just to have the privilege of being able to witness the beauty of your mind and heart—your very soul.

I love you, most ardently. And dare I say if I were a book, you’d be the words; every page strewn with thoughts of you.

Loving you always (from outside the pages),

Kaye Allen

…”The music was a blade, knifing through the dark. The melody sang and the Corsai arced back as one, as if repelled by the single, massive beam. They hissed like steam and broke apart, and fell away beneath the music…”

― Victoria Schwab, This Savage Song

Whomped up this pedigree chart for my friend who’s reading TWoK for the first time and couldn’t remember who was who in Chapter 12. Tried to keep it simple - I have so much more to say about the Kholins.

What makes you think I want to keep doing that? I want to be my own person, be liked for who I am, not just for copying you!

Do you guys ever lend your books to other people? Do you also worry that they might not take care of it they way you do?

*no books were harmed during the making of this photo please don’t kill me they’re perfectly fine

11th March 2017 📝

I thought that it might be helpful to share my annotation key! I use this system all the time for my college reading, and I find it super handy in that it’s simple, uncluttered and easy to use ✨ This is especially great if you don’t like copious amounts of highlighting or you’re using a library book that you want to make as few marks as possible on. I just put small brackets (in pencil!) around the section or quote I want to highlight, and pop the corresponding icon in the margin beside it. This makes it so quick and easy to find what I’m looking for when I go back and review. 📚

Of course, this system isn’t gonna work for everyone (if you’re annotating a biology textbook, I’m not sure that agree/disagree are terribly useful - ‘I wholly disagree that the mitochondrion is the powerhouse of the cell!’) but it’s easily adjustable! The icon at the bottom is my lil versatile one that changes depending on what I’m reading, cause every book if different ❤️ In one book it might denote a definition, in another it might mark important dates etc.

Perhaps someone will find this useful! How do you guys annotate your books? ☺️

Take a Break

I’m taking a break from tumblr. Like I’m completely logging off and everything for a few days. Maybe longer.

Im having some bad mental health days and with that comes the idea that my art is the worst. I’m not improving as quickly as I’d like. I need to go back to traditional art for awhile, read some books, center myself. I am getting short tempered, stressed, and feeling like a really unpleasant person and I don’t want that to be who I am.

It also means, even though I just started it, I’m putting my ask blog on hold.

If you need to get in touch with me, I do have a twitter. I don’t post a lot on there and mostly follow funny twitter accounts and other art “blogs” but I do check it regularly. You can find me @Lozeyjones on twitter.

I’ll reblog this once more for the day crowd but as of now I’m taking a vacation away from this site. I can’t handle much anymore.

Again, my twitter is @lozeyjones

I also check deviantart frequently (every day) so you can find me there as just Lozey.

I’m sorry I’ll be absent for awhile, but I do think that to feel better about myself and my art, I need to get off of this website to cool down and rethink things.

I hope everyone else is doing fine, however. I’ll just be on for the next 24 hours so if you need to let me know anything, tell me now or I won’t be able to get back to you for some time.

Thanks for understanding, and goodnight <3
