love splash

Beauty and the Beast thoughts in gushing dot point form

• They changed the Disney castle with a knight holding a sword at the top somewhere?

• Nice film making technique, making the transformation be visible as a silhouette and lining up the main servants, so we see their darkly lit silhouettes react in horror. It’s horrifying as an audience because we know it’s their turn next.

• It may have sounded auto-tuned when I listened to it online, but with such nice speakers the auto-tuning for Emma Watson didn’t bother me at all. Oh and the village singing number is so much grander on the big screen. I particularly loved the ‘triplets’ getting splashed with mud and Lefou breaking their Gaston marriage hopes with “It’ll never happen.”

• Also my “expensive education.” can’t even help me find the words, but the camera moving from the colourful fields in the Belle reprise and continuously travelling fast to where Maurice was ‘Google Earth style’ was beautiful.

• Lefou’s bitemark on his belly from wrestling in ‘Gaston.’

• “One path closes and another one opens.” You’re so brave Maurice.
• My heart sunk when Maurice slid down in the snow to what I thought would be the wolves. My emotions really matched what was happening on the screen.

• “Shut up, you idiot.” Cogsworth’s first lines spoken. Nice. “I may have lost my arms, but I haven’t lost my eyes!”
“That man has very good taste.” “He was talking about me.”

•Maurice warming his hands on the fire and then another part of his body (read: rear end.)

• “Mama told me not to move so I don’t scare anyone.” (paraphrased) Maurice listens to the talking tea cup for a moment and then quickly rises from his chair and runs away.

• Also, poor Maurice coughing and getting dragged away from the cell by Beast and getting punched by Gaston. Tied to a tree in winter, sent to an asylum etc. At least the ‘hurt’ was balanced with the ‘comfort’ of Agathe giving his shivering hand a cup of tea. She also has a barn owl. Bonus points.

This is where I abandon chronology. It’s easier that way.

• “You can’t talk to us like that!” Cogsworth adorably says with his teeny sword. “Cogsworth the master has returned!” “Where?!” and then his accessories fall apart.

“I’m not alarmed/startled (can’t remember which word) I’m holding a talking candle.”
“Candelabra! There is a difference!”

• Mrs Potts offering tea to Belle before her escape. How considerate! And her “just because someone said things to you when they’re angry, doesn’t mean you have to listen.” speech.

• Lumiere and Cogsworth play chess together. Lumiere cheated apparently.

• Be Our Guest took 12 months to shoot. Let that sink in. And rightly so! That scene felt like an entire Hollywood musical. It just put a big smile on my face! My God, can Mcgregor dance! (motion capture, by the way) With his arms behind his back, sliding on his knees and those twirls! Also, nice guillotine joke and him saying “Over here.” When Plumette’s spotlight doesn’t reach him.

• I’m also happy to note that there was Cogsworth slapstick, just like the original movie! With a fish head slamming in his face and him falling off the table when they literally pull the rug (tablecloth) from under his feet. He also puts his hand on Lumiere’s back after he lands down from the chandelier to see if he’s OK ><

• The hand behind the back thing happens again when they see Belle and Beast dancing. They’re happy for their love, but also for the prospect of being Human Again. Also, Lumiere does whatever he wants! He treats Cogs like a footstool by landing on his head. (Kitchen scene I think.) Also, any clockwork puns are funny.

• What Beast really meant to say when discussing Shakespeare was “Romeo and Juliet? That’s so girly! I only like stuff with swords like Macbeth or Hamlet where everyone dies.” Also his tongue is so long when he expresses his dislike of pining and heartbreak in Romeo & Juliet!

•  Lumiere’s makeup mishap with the powder. “I can fix this.”

• I was a bit disappointed that the camera angles weren’t really sweeping around like the original Tale as old as time number, but I like that Belle leads the dance and that there’s new dance moves, like Beast lifting her up to his hips and making her dip (lean backwards.)

• (When Belle leaves) “So much for true love.” Awww! Cogsworth, you’re so cynical. I’m also torn on Evermore. I like the deep, growly version because it’s from the original actor, but Josh Groban has got such more range. That might be my favourite. Also, Beast moving up the staircase in a spiraling motion to get a glimpse of Belle? So dynamic! And was the missing element I couldn’t have imagined when I first listened to Evermore.

• Maurice holding the padlock after using that delightful deus ex machina of a hairpin.
“I believe this belongs to you?” And then casually asking the head of the asylum. “Do you have children?”

• 3 bullet shots Gaston? REALLY?! So much more shocking than a stab wound! And Gaston’s screams continuing until he hits the ground? 0-0 I’m also glad the curse reverting wasn’t too spinny. It was nice and slow.

• Lastly, I thought Plumiere would be my favourite ship. But Garderenza is the best! The way he looks at her sing, and his mad grins when he plays ^^ He also played a crucial role, holding back the doors. I’m so proud of him.

• “The fat lady is singing!” Garderobe yells out before joining the fight. I’m so glad she didn’t land on anyone, it wouldn’t have translated in live action. I also liked the Lefou/Potts piping hot tea teamwork.

• “Cadenza, you were so brave!” “Mi amor! (I might be wrong about the rest.) ” Though Lumiere on his knees, saying “No, Plumette… No.” with her in his arms is emotionally tied.

I also laughed when the first thing Fru Fru does is pee on someone’s leg. Who was that again?

Humans are adorable.

Supporting evidence:

1. Humans say ‘ow’, even if they haven’t actually been hurt. It’s just a thing they say when they think they might have been hurt, but aren’t sure yet.

2. Humans collect shiny things and decorate their bodies and nests with them. The shinier the better, although each individual has a unique taste for style and colouring

3. Humans are not an aquatic or even amphibious species, but they flock to bodies of water simply to play in it. They can’t even hold their breath all that long; they just love to splash!

4. When night falls and the sky goes dark, humans become drowsy and begin to cocoon themselves in soft, fluffy bedding.

5. Some humans spend time in each other’s nests! Just for fun! It’s not their nest; they’re just visiting each other.

6. Some humans use pigments and dyes to make their bodies flashy and colourful! They even attach shiny dangly bits to their cartalidgous membranes!

7. Humans are very clever, and sometimes adopt creatures from other species into their family units. They don’t seem to notice the obvious differences, and often raise them alongside their own young!

8. If a human sees another creature in distress, they can commonly be observed trying to help! Even at their own risk, most humans are deeply compassionate creatures!

9. If a human hears a particularity catchy sound or tune, it will often mimic it, even to the point of annoying themselves!

10. Sneezes are entirely involuntary, and completely adorable. Especially when the human in question becomes frustrated

11. Humans love treats!!! Some more than others. Many humans will save these treats specifically for a later date when they are in need of comfort or reassurance. IE, pickles, pop tarts, Popsicles, etc

12. They’re learning to travel in space!!! They can’t get very far, but they’re trying!!! So far, they’ve made it to the end of their yard, and have found rocks

I think that’s true of all cinema, that’s why cinema is the great humanistic art form. Whatever the film is, it doesn’t matter what the film is about, or even whether it’s a narrative or figurative film at all, it’s an invitation to step into somebody else’s shoes. Even if it’s the filmmaker’s shoes filming a landscape, you go into somebody else’s shoes and you look out of their lens, you look out of their eyes and their imagination. That’s what going to the pictures is all about.

i’m very often referred to as “sir” in elevators and such. i think it has to do with being this tall and not wearing much lipstick. i think people just can’t imagine i’d be a woman if i look like this.

10 of my favorite Korean drama couples

Roses are red, Violets are blue, Valentine’s day is coming up, so here are my 10 favorite Korean drama couples. (in no particular order)

Hong Nan Hee & Byung Hyung Tae - 9 Ends 2 Outs

If I had to choose my favorite couple of all time, Nan He and Hyung Tae would take the title. These two best friends turned lovers are still making my heart pound whenever I watch 9 Ends 2 Outs. Their knowledge and understanding of one another, as well as their constant need to protect each other was wonderfully portrayed. And Soo Ae’s chemistry with Lee Jung Jin was so on point I wondered if they didn’t date in real life.

Ban Ji Yoon & Yoon Dong Ha - A Witch’s Romance

Noona Romance are not new in kdramas but this one is probably my favorite. It was heartbreaking to watch Ban Ji Yoon fight her feelings for Dong Ha because of their 14-year old gap, but the mature take on the subject made it worth it. Plus, their kiss scenes were just too hot.

Na Bong Sun & Kang Sun Woo - Oh My Ghost

These two are just too cute. Introvert Bong Sun and top chef Sun Woo didn’t look like they were ever going to fall in love but thankfully our ghost Soon Ae helped a little. I particularly love how Sun Woo just can’t resist Na Bong cuteness.

Kim Bok Joo & Jung Joon Hyung - Weightlifting Fairy, Kim Bok Joo

A fan favorite and probably the best couple of 2016, Bok Joo and Joon Hyung have brought to light a realistic portrayal of a couple and their relationship. From strangers, to friends, to lovers they’ve showed us how a relation based on respect, communication and trust can work.

Cheon Song Yi & Do Min Joon - You Who Came From The Stars

If these two aren’t the definition of opposites that attracts I don’t know who could be. Using one of my favorite trope, neighbors/cohabitation, Cheon Song Yi and Do Min Joon’ love story was stellar.

Choi Hee Jin & Kim Bong Do - Queen In Hyun’s Man

Another opposite attracts kind of story, Choi Hee Jin and Kim Bong Do made my heart pound and break and pound again. The idea that love is timeless and that 400 years of distance is not such an issue was one of my favorites out of all the love stories.

Yoon Myeong Joo & Seo Dae Young - Descendants of the Sun

Set in the military, the obstacle they faced wasn’t just your usual parents disapproval. Seo Dae Young’ struggle to follow orders while trying to keep Yoon Myeong Joo from hurting was heart wrenching. But it’s Yoon Myeong Joo’ stubbornness that made this couple so lovable. This and their beautiful theme song.

Jang Dan Bi & Lee Do - Splash Splash Love

It was only two episodes but these two gave me feelings that some couples haven’t been able to do in 20 episodes. Their love story was short lived but so sweet that it will be remembered for eternity.

Grim Reaper & Sunny - Goblin

Definitely the couple with the most painful story on this list, Wang Yeo and Sunny made cry like a baby. To be exact, it’s the innocent and slow approach this couple took only to find out the ugly truth that made cry. Like hurting in one life is already awful but can you imagine it being your destiny? Granted their reincarnation did get a happily ever after but it wasn’t the same.

Go Eun Chan & Choi Han Gyeol - Coffee Prince

I love these two because not only did they do the romance but they also did the bromance. Their love story was really one that transcended genders, which was quite a feature for Korean drama. Han Gyeol struggle to understand his feelings for Eun Chan, followed by his acceptance of the situation gave me so many feelings.

One thing all these couple have in common is how much they loved each other, they might not have made the best decisions all the time but their love is so big that it blinded me several times.

On this note, I wish you all a Happy Valentine’s Day whether you are in a relationship or single. For those of you who are in relationship, enjoy your time with your significant other. For those you who are single (like me) don’t feel desperate and just enjoy the day with yourself or your friends. Finally for those of you who don’t celebrate/care about Valentine’s Day…have a wonderful tuesday :)
