lots of movie reviews

I just asked the Nostalgia Critic to review Robotboy.

 I kinda hope he does. xD It’d be really interesting to hear his thoughts on my favorite show and presh blueberry son. ;v;

I love the show to bits, but even I can see many things wrong with it and he might see them, too. xDD;;

i keep seeing “go watch dear white people” posts but if its message is anything like it was in the movie then um no. the movie ended up talking more shit about black people than the white folk it claimed to be targeting. like they literally marketed dwp as this super progressive pro black film and then they spent the whole damn movie talking about how weave is bad and that black activism is fake and unneccessary, and how the little mixed girl is soooo much more oppressed than her darkskin counterparts….like uh….is THIS the show yall want me to watch? unless its written by completely different people with an entirely new message, ur gonna have to miss me with that coon shit.

Voltron on Instagram headcanons

Because my friend and I sat down and made a bunch of them so here we go

• Allura is on stuco and she’s always posting pictures of the decorations for the next school dance
• she maintains a study account for everyone in her grade to use as reference
• she’s always doing super cool shit like waterskiing or skydiving on the weekends so her posts about them make everyone jealous
• she’s the one who has followers from every school in the district
• probably runs a photography account too
• her bio has something about the sports she does, her school, just basic information
• fashion queen, she runs an outfit of the day account

• coran is a mess of memes and selfies
• shirtless pictures and flexing pictures because he loves himself so much
• much ranting about his parents and the world in general conspiring against him
• he tries to learn to skateboard and fails the first time around, the video gets posted and gets thousands of likes

• shiro posts study pictures too
• he also pulls all these crazy do-not-try-this-at-home-kids stunts like making flame throwers out of aerosol cans and posts videos of them
• he’s the one who tries to teach coran to skateboard, has like two skateboarding pictures on Instagram
• he swims and posts pictures with his entire team
• also on stuco
• has “#shallura” in his bio (im sorry but I’m trash)
• he’s in band and he always live blogs their band concerts and field trips on his story
• everyone mainly just follows him for the pictures of his pet cat, she’s fluffy and gorgeous and she’s named sky and she’s dark stormy grey
• altogether doesn’t post too often

• Hunk definitely posts food recipes. I know we’re all fed up with hunk being characterized with just food but he definitely posts food recipes.
• he’s a complete computer science genius and posts homework help for his classmates too
• majority of his photos are of Lance hacking his account and spamming selfies
• has a shitty science pun as his bio
• he reviews Netflix shows with Lance

• Pidge is part of Instagram royalty; they’re queer, they hack, and they game
• they’ve got thousands of followers for their video game cheats and tips videos
• they meme with Lance a lot too, so Lance gets popularity on Instagram through them
• they post one picture of this giant stash of soda and chips captioned “gamer fuel”
• they post another one right after it of this exquisite gourmet salad captioned “hunk took my gamer fuel away and replaced it with a meal :(”
• they put playthroughs up on their story every day
• they talk shit about every single person in their school by using pseudonyms for them, and everyone guesses who they’re talking about in the comments. No one ever gets to find out if they’re right or not.

• Lance just flat out memes, he runs a spam account and a main account.
• he runs both a dc and a marvel fan account, even though he does like D.C. Better
• he writes movie reviews
• on his main account there’s a lot of selfies of him with girls, him with his friends, him with his family… he just loves people and everyone is always tagged
• has the most followers after Pidge. Like allura, he’s the one who people from all across the district follow.
• he swims with Shiro on the swim team, and bitches about practice every day
• attends every social event ever
• plays the piano because I personally love this headcanon, he posts a video of him attempting to play the death waltz and it goes practically viral
• he learned to skateboard from shiro and now he can’t get enough of it
• he posts pictures of Keith glaring at and/or flipping off the camera a LOT
• complains about homework all the time
• his bio is something about space, but he never really posts about it because it’s more of a private fascination that just makes him happy
• he loses his mind over fish and spams pictures of them whenever he has a chance to

• keith is following only Lance on Instagram because Lance made his account
• he has exactly one (1) picture on his Instagram. It’s of his feet up on the desk in front of him, crossed at the ankles, black and white filter, captioned “rebel”
• the first two comments are Lance, one says “first” and the second says “why are you like this”
• his bio reads “Lance is the best” but he deleted the app after Lance made him download it so now it’s just up there permanently and everyone thinks Lance and him are a thing
• it also has something about him running track and what school he goes to
• his profile pic is Lance with Keith’s face in the background, smiling, but it’s the only smiling picture of him on the internet because whenever Lance tries to take one he immediately glares at the camera

Dom & Letty 3.0 - FOTF

“You will never be alone again.

I vow wherever you go, I go.

You ride, I ride.

You fight, I fight.

And if you ever die on me Dominic Torreto, I’m gonna die with you..”

Those were Letty’s vows to her husband the night they got married and this movie presents them in action. In part 6 we got to see Dom fight not only for her but for their love, having to captivate her all over again. Now here in part 8 the roles have been flipped and its Letty’s turn to either fall in line with others thoughts or fight for her husband. The difference in their battles is the fact that Dom was fighting for a resurface of memories and their undeniable draw/chemistry – while for Letty it’s about faith. The question of would Dom do this, would he turn his back on his family…on her, and when all the evidence says yes, does she still have the power to say no. How much does she know her husband, how much does she trust him and their love. She comes through with flying colors.

Like I said even though this is a flip, there are big differences, one of those being knowledge of enemy. Dom knew who his enemy was, he knew what had went wrong with her and who was using that for his own purposes. But Letty doesn’t have this same knowledge. She doesn’t know who the big bad is or why Dom is doing things that are totally against everything he is. That’s where the faith comes into play, because she has to everything off the back of it. Despite others telling her that this may be who he has become she has to go off of what she believes of him and their love and remind them of all the great things her husband has done for them while they’re so quick to give up on or judge him. She reminds us of her position and exactly where her loyalties reside when she responds to Hobbs by telling him that he’ll have to deal with the both of them when he warns her that he may have to put Dom down. She’s not just willing to fight for him, but beside him – and that’s not in the hope that he’s still good, but in the certainty that something else is going on because her Dom would never turn his back, the fight for the family is all he’s ever known. You know its certainty because she places her life in his hands. In the briefcase scene there was this great subtext moment because here’s the reality, that moment after he shot the gun in the air and she turned around and told him that he wouldn’t shoot her because he loved her…this moment really was about choosing – he had a choice, stop her and his baby survived another day. Let her go free and choose losing that. He let her go. It doesn’t matter that she got caught unaware around the corner by someone else…because he let her go. The next scene – the standoff – is also important because here he is again choosing to protect his wife with the knowledge of what it will cost him if he shoots this man. Not only that, but it comes back to that faith again. Because this moment is really her time to prove if she believes her husband is doing this for a reason or because he’s turned bad. She has to either side with him (let the case go) or keep it and get the other guy a bullet to the head – putting Dom in further hot water (it doesn’t matter that she doesn’t know exactly what that hot water is, only that she’s aware of its existence if she believes her husband to be innocent).

In one of my old Dotty articles I claimed that Dom had elevated in his Alpha status, that he had become the kind to analysis his enemy then to plot and plan.  That his control was of self and his lead was of understanding his mates and those around him. This chapter really proved those claims. He planned and adjusted to everything that happened (which I’ll go over in more detail in the review). The only thing he really couldn’t plan or adjust for was his wife. As they say – a driver’s weakness really is his best partner knowing all his tricks. She was the only one able to keep up with him cause she knew his tricks, when she got the briefcase he couldn’t adjust and ended up choosing her not once but twice which led to the punishment of Elena dying (not that I shed a tear – I knew she was gonna die the moment I saw that baby). The enemy’s biggest mistake was thinking it was an either or game with Dom – not realizing that he plays the long game his plan would be getting his child and going back to his wife…instead what she did was taunt the him with one (Letty) and bait his with the other (baby Brian). Big mistake leaving Letty out of her equation because she left something out there to fight for him and for him to fight for. She thought the baby would over compass that, she thought the baby would shadow his wife – she was wrong. It not about choosing the baby over Letty/family – it’s about connecting the two.

I see people saying things like the baby ruined the relationship, it ruined Dom/Letty. No the baby may have ruined the fantasy as you saw it…but he didn’t ruin that relationship. Every one of their chapters has shown that nothing comes between that love because that love is the factor. Letty is not bothered, or upset by this child…and why would she be? It wasn’t something that intentionally happened and when she told Elena that she understood her relationship with Dom, she actually meant it. The baby wasn’t/isn’t a threat to her marriage. It doesn’t mean Dom was in love with Elena, cause he wasn’t. It doesn’t mean that Letty can’t have her own kids with him, cause she can. It doesn’t mean she’s gonna mistreat baby Brian, cause even though he may not have come from her womb – he is still a part of her husband and like him family means everything to her. It doesn’t mean that their kids will take second place just because it came second – understand that there will be no distinction between these kids. Understand that just because this baby didn’t come out of her womb doesn’t mean he’s not her son too. That’s what the Fast & Furious has always been about –a family created not by blood but by bond. Dom and Letty are now parents – maybe not in the way we originally thought/wanted, but in a way that’s not wrong regardless.

One of my favorite things about this series and about this relationship is everyone understands that when it comes to Dom and Letty – the shit that’s between them is undeniable and there’s no walking away from it. When they reunite and he lets her know he hadn’t walked away, she says she knows. Dom and Letty see themselves as soulmates, as bonded, as ride or die. Whatever you wanna call it, it all means the same thing -Love- They’ll follow, they’ll ride, they’ll fight, and they’ll die for it. Isn’t that the ideal, isn’t that why we clamor for it, why we cling to and love it?

We’ve gushed at their cuteness/power, we cried when she died, we cheered with a blood of vengeance when Dom sought revenge, we fought for the Letty comeback, and we all gasped and gave a standing O when we all saw Letty’s pic after the credits, we died and came back to life when Dom fought for her, their love and their future. We threw our hat into this ring a long time ago and I don’t know about you guys, but mine still resides there and always will as long as the franchise holds close those ideals that are so dear to me - Loyalty, Love, Family, Romance and the sacrifice/fight in the name of those things. As long as it centers and protects the Dotty goodness. Familia remember that we fought for this shit right here. Our OTP’s love is written all over this piece and that is in part thanks to us fans. Romance is thrown to the side in action flicks, used to create some angst by killing off one of the lovers or back-filler that gets no real shine.  But with F&F we get it all, the action, the romance, the family. Sixteen years and the pairing is only getting stronger. I loved this movie because it really defined the love this time around. I don’t just mean romantic love either. It really put the quote ‘you don’t turn you back on family…’ to work, because even though some of them had been misjudging Dom the moment his life was in danger – what did they do? Every time I think they can’t emote further, that they can’t make me feel more about the emotion that resides in these films and yet every time I’m wrong. With the Dom and Letty relationship when I say it defined the love…I mean it really cemented what love means to them – as a pairing not just from Dom to Letty. If I had to pick one word to describe their type of love it would be faith. We’ve seen the trait throughout their relationship over the years and in a big way in part 7 when he let her go on the faith that she would figure it out and come back to him (cause you can’t tell someone they love you). Like I said earlier, it’s her total being in this film - because their faith in one another is so strong, so is the certainty of their love. The reason they can trust one another so immensely, the reason they’re so loyal to one another, the reason they’re so willing to sacrifice, the reason they make each other so damn happy is because of that certainty. They give and know its to be returned with the same passion. They love each other and they always will. It’s the reason they work, the reason they always find themselves together. It’s the reason they’re so indestructible. It’s the reason we’re so damn blessed.

Notes: Videos not mine first one is Queen of hearts and the second is of course one of my all time favs - you know I always gotta in with a ConquerGravity video because the vids are just so damn on point to what I’m getting at. Every time I see a ConGrav vidseo it always makes me see a bigger picture of what I think and feel about this pairing and they’re relationship. None of the videos are new cause the new film just came out but oldies can make you feel new things. I didn’t put everything in this post because I am coming out with a review of the movie and theres a lot of points that connect to that so I stripped this down and left it as bare as possible. I went and saw the advance showing…but I’m going again tonight to see it so I’ll write the review after and hopefully have it up by later Sunday night. Sorry this is so long with no images…

Brian & Dom

my friend has just given me the best movie review: “a lot of the scenes are great if you don’t put them together into a movie”

unveiledtwinklingspace replied:

Imo David really did love Shaw, but that didn’t matter in the face of his need to create. I think his grief over her loss was genuine which makes it even creepier. But yeah I had a feeling Walter liked Daniels and then when David confirmed it I was very happy :) Screw you David I hope you get your comeuppance in the next movie.

I completely agree. David loved Shaw as much as he was capable of, or as much as he understood love to be. You can tell by their interactions in Prologue: The Crossing and from the fact David created a grave for her and kept her picture on his work desk. Which only makes what he did to her that much worse.

However, I’ve been watching and reading lots of reviews for the movie and some people are making a good point: Most of Elizabeth and David’s story is left incomplete, and we aren’t even told how Elizabeth died. In the prologue Elizabeth is seen to be sick (emaciated, sickly colored, sweating, and drinking a ‘green substance’) and that is probably one of the reasons she put David back together, because she was unable to operate the spaceship alone anymore. (In the prologue clip when she is reattaching David’s head her hair is already much longer than it was in Prometheus, which means she had waited at least a couple of months before fixing him, so why is that?) It could also be one of the reasons David puts her in stasis… because she was dying and they were trying to stave it off as long as possible (a bit like David had done for Weyland in Prometheus). She had been infected by the black goo so it’s not unlikely she simply never recovered and was slowly dying. If David knew she was dying it might explain why he killed her (he may have thought he was doing her a kindness by ending her suffering) or perhaps she died on her own. Either way, David decided to experiment with her body anyways because she was already gone.

That’s an interesting theory and makes a lot of sense. Because David simply killing Shaw for the sake of science seems strange. Granted it’s completely within the realm of possibility for David given his narcissism and thirst for creation, but Shaw was special (given the relics he kept of her and the fact he confided to Walter he loved her). Of course even if he didn’t kill her, experimenting on her like that was revolting. Although it’s entirely possible David simply doesn’t understand that desecrating a corpse is wrong.

Regardless, I am with you that David needs to be stopped. He has clearly lost whatever sanity was barely holing him together in Prometheus (although it’s a long shot to say he was ever sane in the first place). And I’m very angry for what he did to Walter and Daniels. They were going to build a log cabin together. 😢

As for Walter’s feelings for Daniels? I’m less certain. When David told Walter it was love, Walter responded it was duty. And that could be true. He is programmed to protect human life, protect the colonists, and protect the crew of the Covenant. He acts within those parameters. The only thing that makes me think he might feel more than what he was programmed with was his behavior towards the crew at the beginning of the film. He seemed offended by Captain Oram’s accusations that the damage from the neutrino blast was somehow his fault, he seemed sympathetic towards Daniels’ loss, and he seemed curious about Daniels by engaging with her and discussing her life and personal relationships when he had no reason or need to know it. I believe it was too soon within the runtime of Covenant for Walter to develop real love for Daniels because it would require an evolution of his code and an understanding of what love is. But I do believe if he had survived he could have loved her.

I’d be disappointed if I came back and you had a boring story for me. “Hey Cordelia, guess what I’ve been up to. Lots and lots of Sudoku.” “Hey, Cordelia, guess who started a movie review blog.” Angel, you’re human and you’re tortured and you have a pet dragon that you accidentally named after me and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Angel #12: After the Fall, part twelve (2008)

This movie was Neil Jordan’s second film about vampires, the first being Interview With the Vampire and while the monsters are the same the stories are very different. I’m going to start with saying that I’ve watched several of Jordan’s films and I have usually enjoyed them. This film depicts the relationship between two vampire women, mother and daughter with striking personality differences and dances between narrated flashbacks and the present. The film has beautifully odd visuals and lovely cinematography and depicts a supernatural rendition of the difficulties between mother and daughter as the later pulls away from the parental relationship. The film feels very rich, there is a elegance to the story and narration and while both vampires were sympathetic they still come across as monsters. The film holds a creepy tension throughout it’s duration that becomes almost enchanting. As with many other of Neil Jordan’s films, the tone of the movie seems very lonely, as do the characters and the scenes of stark islands and bleak drizzle accentuate it. Over all the movie is a bit slow but it works in it’s favor and the acting was fantastic as well. I enjoyed it a lot.

In a previous life I was a paid B movie reviewer for a couple publications in Salt Lake City and did a lot of bad movie watching with fellow reviewers. I think I’m going to bring it back just a bit by reviewing Post Apocalyptic movies on netflix.

Alright so here’s the list I’ve come up with

  1. The Last Days
  2. Turbo Kid
  3. Automata
  4. Bounty Killer
  5. These Final Hours
  6. State of Emergency
  7. The Midnight After
  8. The Colony
  9. Pandemic
  10. Goodbye World
  11. The Last Survivors
  12. Snowpiercer
  13. Escape from New York
  14. How I Live Now
  15. The Road

15 Movies, the Criteria is that it can’t be zombies or vampires. It has to be a location that is run down and mostly destroyed. Can be the entire world like in The Road or it can be just a local area like in Escape from New York. Can take place just before the event that destroys everything and during. Or years after.

Snowpiercer, Escape from New York, How I Live Now and The Road I’ve seen before. So they will be last to be reviewed.

One movie a day. 15 of them, some look pretty bad. They’ll be done in this order too

I’ll be doing them on a scale of 1-10

Panic (Request)

The reader has a social anxiety  and when Harry wants to introduce her to the other members of the band she is really nervous and when they finally go to the dinner at one of the boys house she gets a panic attack so Harry has to calm her down and to explain whats going on but finally she calms and the other are really nice to her. - needtobefind

You couldn’t remember the last time your heart had pounded this hard. You were very tempted to tell Harry that you weren’t feeling well and couldn’t make it to the dinner, but you knew he would be able to see right through your excuses.

It had taken you a while to admit to Harry about your issues with social anxiety. You hadn’t even really wanted to tell him at all, but after several instances of backing out of events last minute and claiming you were sick or had forgotten about another appointment, Harry had finally sat you down and asked you what was going on. You were horrified to find out that he assumed you were ashamed of being seen with him, and finally had to tell him the truth.

You had struggled with social issues since you were a child, but it was only now into your adult years that you had finally sat down with a doctor and got a proper diagnosis. There had been too many instances of not being able to stand in a room full of people without going into a full-blown panic attack. Too many times where you had needed to step off the street into a quiet store in order to calm your breathing. Too many phone calls that had gone unanswered because you couldn’t bring yourself to pick up the phone and speak to someone.

When you had told Harry about all of this, you had ended up breaking down in tears. Harry was unbelievably comforting and understanding and made you a promise that he would never put you in a situation that would cause you any panic. That was the main reason why the two of you had never been spotted out together; the fear of flashing cameras and mobs of female fans was enough to keep you securely at home until Harry came to you.

You had now been dating almost four months and still hadn’t met the rest of the band as whole. Niall had been over with Harry a few times, and you had a brief conversation with Louis and Liam outside of a studio, but no times where the four boys had been hanging out together with you there. It wasn’t that you didn’t like them - quite the opposite - but the thought of being a room with them all at the same time made your stomach do flips. What if you said something stupid? Or didn’t talk enough and they thought you were weird? What if they asked you to talk about yourself? The possibilities for you to make a fool of yourself were endless, in your mind.

After weeks of discussion and Harry promising you that everything would be okay, you had finally agreed to go to dinner with him at Liam’s place. Louis and Niall would also be joining, but that would be it. Just four other people; one of whom was your boyfriend. And it wasn’t as if you hadn’t met the others before. These weren’t going to be strangers.

Your stomach was in knots the entire day leading up to dinner. Harry watched you as you paced around the bedroom, throwing clothes everywhere. He finally got up and came over to you, placing two comforting hands on your arms, forcing you to stop moving around so frantically.

“Babe.” He said, “Relax, it’s going to be fine. You’re just stressing yourself out more.”

“I don’t know what to wear!” You protested. “Everything I own makes me look fat and ugly and…Harry, I don’t think I can do this!”

Age of Ultron: In what universe does it belong?

I was pretty wary after reading all the negative reviews online, but you know what? I didn’t hate Age of Ultron. The plot centres on a villain you know they’ll defeat with no extreme losses, with lots of action and light comedy. It’s always nice to see the Avengers together; Hawkeye actually speaks in this one, and Steve’s sarcasm was on point – he’s downright sassy. Yeah, the plot wasn’t what I was hoping for, but overall? It was okay.

But Age of Ultron doesn’t make any sense when placed beside other Marvel movies.

To make the movie fun and lighthearted, the individual plots of each Avenger had to be not only ignored, but forgotten. This made the characters very… hollow. It’s a universe where Steve’s world wasn’t flipped upside down after seeing Bucky, where Tony isn’t dealing with panic attacks, where Natasha’s past wasn’t exposed to the world. They talk but they don’t really say anything – it’s 90% action and 10% dialogue. The only character that’s given substantial dialogue and development is Ultron, which makes the film more like his story than theirs.

As a result, the Avengers are portrayed as one-dimensional, seen through the eyes of a stranger: Steve is old fashioned. Natasha’s the epitome of a sexy spy. Thor’s very otherworldly and comes and goes as he pleases. Banner was more like Tony’s fumbly, awkward assistant than a renowned scientist in his own right. Tony felt oddly out of character, presumably because he lacked depth. They were cartoon versions of themselves.

This wouldn’t be an issue if Age of Ultron was early in the Marvel universe, but it’s not. We know so much about this world and these characters that we’ve moved beyond AOU’s superficial plot. No matter how fun the action sequences were, AOUs characterizations no longer made sense. It gave the movie a strange vibe, especially during dialogue scenes.

one of the funniest things to me about sins mad max review was like. the audio on his copy of the move was absolute fucked in places and then he complained about max being incomprehensible like find a better torrent dude this ain't something they did on purpose. (close runner ups include claiming the rig was full of fuel and not milk and why did max leave the bag of weapons hes CLEARLY TAKING with him in the cab honestly these vids are so pathetically bad at times)

lmfao yeah speaking of bad audio there’s a few videos in which his own commentary audio just cuts out sometimes and he doesn’t fix it

also anyone else notice how the early videos were a lot shorter but as the channel gets more popular suddenly every movie he reviews has 10-20 minutes worth of “sins”?

suicide squad review!

okay so suicide squad was released in the uk today and i went to go see it !!!! since there’s been a lot of biased reviews, i thought maybe offering a more balanced reaction to this movie would be good.

it’s not perfect by any means, but it is hardly “disastrous” as has been decided by critics. it deserves more than its 26% rotten tomatoes review (the audience score of 74% is far more reasonable). i’d give it a solid 7.5 out of 10!

Seriously though, this movie is the text book example of mixed bag.

It has gorgeous cinematography, fantastic visuals, and a production design that feels like it belongs amongst the Hammer Horror movies in how Gothic and atmospheric it is. Even some of the actors, like Emmy Rossum, deliver a genuinely good and heartfelt performance, and the songs are both catchy and really enjoyable.

However, it also has some really confusing and jittery editing; the singing is rather inconsistent (I know different people have different intonations, but this is like going from Luciano Pavarotti to a cat being strangled under water); it has no semblance of rhythm at all, and this Gerard Butler guy as The Phantom is one of the worst casting decisions I have ever seen in my life.

I guess, when it comes down to it, both the good and the bad balance each other so what comes out is a rather okay movie. It’s not the best, but it’s definitely not the worst. If you are a fan of musicals you should definitely give this one a watch, but if the genre doesn’t wow you at all then you should skip it.

And now, if you excuse me, I think I may need a fire extinguisher. These many candles next to a wooden pipe organ…I think I know why this guy got half his face burnt out.

QUEER FILM REVIEW: Romeos (2011)

Romeos is a German film that is easily available with English subtitles (a good quality version is on Amazon Prime, and it can be found on various sites like Putlocker).  According to wikipedia, it is “…a drama and tragicomedy which revolves around the romantic relationship between Lukas, a 20 year old gay pre-op trans man and a cisgender gay man named Fabio.” However, the movie deals with a lot more than that.

It’s the most accurate movie with a transperson lead I’ve yet see. The movie is not exclusively about Lukas’s transition, but it does talk a lot about the different issues he faces with it, particularly with housing, relationships, friendships, and his family. On top of all that, Lukas is even played by someone with the same gender as him, cis man Rick Okon (in comparison to many trans* related films casting men or women to cross dress for the role).

Possible triggers are mentioned under the cut- unfortunately there are a lot of them.
