losing inches but weight not dropping

Weigh in! April 2, 2017

Weight: 171.6 lbs
Neck: 13.25 in
Bust: 37 in
Waist: 35 in
Hips: 40.75 in
Bicep: 13 in
Thigh: 21.5 in
Calf: 15 in

Weight loss this month: 1.4 lbs
Total weight loss: 9.4 lbs
Total inches lost: 11.5 in

I’m fairly happy with this progress. I know I’m at the point where I won’t be dropping pounds instantaneously. It’s going to take a lot of hard work to start losing more fat and gaining muscle. I’m proud of my ability to keep up with this for 3 months, here’s to another 3 more 🥂

Weight loss and plateaus

I would post this on my main blog, but I have a far larger following here so maybe someone will see this and be able to smile.

I’ve been trying to drop my depression weight and lean down for like four years (medical probs make my body be shitty at its job soooo) and I’m finally at a point where I have just a littttle more to go before I can start actively building muscle.

They say go by your measurements and not the scale, but

my waist and hip measurements haven’t changed in three months.

You know what, though? I’m looking leaner and the pound are still slowly coming off.

It occurred to me today–and I’m sure most fitness people know this, but your home girl isn’t a damn dietician–that at some point, there are no more inches to lose. At some point, your body is at its natural fat/skin storage level.

I pinched my waist and hips, as we all do, and what’s left is just my skin. There is nothing below it but my hip bones and ribs. There is nothing for me to even squish, you know? There is literally nothing else to lose in this area of my body which is why I stopped losing inches there. No matter how much weight you lose at a healthy level, you can’t lose the inches off your bones.

If you’re at that final 5-10 pounds and your inches aren’t dropping but you can feel the changes in strength or the fit in clothes, accept it.

You aren’t plateauing; you made it to the top of the god damn mountain and you should be hella proud.

Just a reminder: THE SCALE IS NOT THE END ALL BE ALL. I have not lost a single pound since the 1st of the month but I’ve continued with my new gym routine and I dropped a pant size!! Can’t believe I’m in a size 10! 1 year, -87lbs, size 22 to 10! 😊

"You're in my Spot" Jumin x MC

Jumin Han is a very busy man. Of course he is the son of a very wealthy family, but it doesn’t mean you miss him any less.
As you crawled into bed, you wondered when your husband would come home. You laid down onto his side of the bed so you wouldn’t be so lonely. You heard a small mew coming from the side of the bed behind you. Elizabeth the 3rd was staring into your (e/c) eyes, seemingly asking for permission.
“Come on Elizabeth,” simultaneously waving your hand over. The cat gracefully jumped and curled around your head. You grabbed the covers and brought them to your nose. They smelled like Jumin’s expensive shampoo and cologne. You weren’t always this needy, but you really missed him; so this was an exception.
You were slowly succumbing to sleep, when Elizabeth the 3rd ran off towards the door. You didn’t think it was anything, but then you heard the elevator stop on your floor. It’s Jumin.
You heard the keys clank onto the table near the door. As much as you missed him and you wanted to welcome him home; but dang it you were comfortable. Priorities.
Jumin put his briefcase on the floor near the door along with his tie, suit, and shoes. You turned and greeted him.
“Hi Jumin,” you said sleepily.
“Hello, MC.”
He walked towards the bed and face planted onto his pillow. He stayed there for a few seconds until his face popped back up and frowned. You frowned in confusion. Slowly, he climbs over to you and straddles you. You couldn’t help but blush like a schoolgirl. He seemed to inching closer to you, until he suddenly drops onto your body. His weight on top of you made you lose you lose your breath, but soon recovered.
He mumbles something, but unfortunately you didn’t understand him.
“What?”
He brought his face to yours and says “you’re in my spot.” Then he kisses the corner of your lips and plants his face onto the pillow beside you. You smiled and giggled at Jumin’s aloof but charming antics. You brought your arms together to hug him.
“I love you, Jumin”
He hums contentedly.
“I love you too, MC.”
He repositions himself back onto his side of the bed, while you still hold him in your arms. You giggle because of his insistence and snuggled into his body for warmth. And both of you continue to sleep blissfully back in each other’s arms.

This is my first published fanfic, hope you enjoy! I saw a comic on Pinterest, so this is based off of that. I’ll make sure once I find the artist, give them credit. I didn’t proofread because I’m lazy, but if you happen to see a mistake make sure to message me. :)

Hey. Do you have any weight loss tips?

Sure, I’ve got weight-loss tips!

1. There is no magic bullet. This is a lifestyle. You change the way you eat, you find ways to fit more exercise into your life and you do it every single day.

2. You don’t have to give to the foods you love, but you do have to eat them in moderation. You can eat a slice or two of pizza once a week. You can have a piece of cake or some great chocolate, or even some ice cream (try Halo Top it’s amazing). Weight-loss is a journey not a punishment.

3. You don’t workout to punish yourself for eating. You do it to make your body better, find something you enjoy you’ll thank me later.

4. Ignore the scale, there will be weeks where it doesn’t move, hell there may be months where it doesn’t move. It doesn’t mean shit. Take out your tape measure, did you lose an inch in your waist, what about your hips? Check your body fat percentage( I use a fitbit aria scale that measures this it’s not 100% accurate but close enough that the trend based data serves my purpose). If these things have gone down, then congratulations, your weight-loss efforts are working even if your weight hasn’t actually you know gone down. Not all victories are scale based.

5. Be patient and go slow. Slow weight-loss is healthier and safer for your body, and research seems to bear out that it is longer lasting. There’s all of these transformation posts about people who dropped 50+ in under a year, Great for them. That isn’t how it has to be. It took me ~5 months to lose that 20lbs you saw in my post. At no point in that 5 months have I ever been hungry, or denied myself. I probably could have lost more weight in this time had I not eaten some of the things I had, but I regret nothing because generally I have a healthy diet, I get plenty of exercise, and outside of my migraines and high blood pressure I’m healthy. Be kind to yourself, and your body. Losing weight is a process and you should not hurt your body or your mind to try and be a physically smaller person.

6. Losing weight cannot make you love yourself. If you don’t like your big self, or your skinny fat self, losing the weight won’t change it. The weight is not the problem in that equation. Practice self love, be kind to yourself, and if you find that you are unable to reprogram how you feel about you, seek professional help. Society spends our entire lives telling us that we are fat not that we have fat, and that that makes us loathsome. You deserve to love you, and be loved. It’s a hard place to come to, and sometimes you can’t get there alone. Just know that deciding to lose weight won’t take you there.

@kittygobigboom these are the things that I practice in my weight loss journey that have made me successful. They aren’t motivation so much as they are things that have stopped me from failing along the way. I also have a doctor who is with me in this ever step of the way so it helps. She high fives me every time I have an office visit and she sees my weight has dropped. Not because she was bothered by my weight, but because she knows I want to lose, and because she saw that it made me sick. You can totally do this, it’s just one day at a time, one meal at a time, one workout at a time, and as much as it can irritate us, one pound at a time.

Ground Bison with Cannellini, Kale & a Poached Egg!

This recipe made for a really healthy and delicious dinner that Ben and I couldn’t get enough of! It’s another installment from Bon Appétit’s “Cooking without Recipes” but for this I’ve made some edits and transcribed the dish into a true recipe for you all. Make this a low budget dinner by subbing lean, ground chicken or beef for the bison!

  • Prep time: 5 minutes
  • Cook time: 10-15 minutes
  • Total time: 25 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 can cannellini beans (garbanzo work too!)
  • 1 lb ground bison or substitute ground chicken, turkey or beef for alternative protein
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil, divided
  • ¼ cup white wine
  • 1 bunch of kale
  • Parmesan to taste
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Squeeze of lemon
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes
  • A poached egg* (optional but recommended)

Instructions:

  • Drain and rinse beans and set aside.
  • Heat a medium size skillet and add 1 tbsp oil. When shimmering, add bison to the pan and cook until browned. Add a dash of salt and pepper to taste.
  • Add the beans and mix well with the bison.
  • Add the white wine, plus a little extra if the mixture gets too dry. Then add kale and cook until wilted but still brightly green.
  • Top off with remaining oil, Parmesan cheese, lemon, and red pepper flakes.
  • Mix well and then serve in a bowl or small plate. Finally, place poached egg on top. Enjoy!

*Poached egg instructions:

  • This is literally the best way I’ve ever poached an egg. First, take a small bowl or cup and fill with ½ cup distilled white vinegar. Carefully crack egg into the vinegar and let sit for 5 minutes or until your water is ready.
  • Meanwhile, fill a small sauce pan with 2 inches or so water and bring to a rapid boil.
  • When boiling, use a whisk and quickly stir clockwise, creating a vortex in the sauce pan.
  • Drop your egg into the center so the egg whites swirl around the yolk and poach the egg. Reduce heat and let water simmer one to two minutes, while swirling the water with the whisk every so often. Use a slotted spoon remove egg! Done!

The short answer to “what does your uncorsetted waist look like now?” is this.  Remember, I’m currently training for a pretty demanding race, so I’m not just in a sports bra for the sake of vanity.  Tonight I spent a few hours simulating one half of the event, and I was soaked!  Therefore, pardon my unflattering sweat spots…

I am currently pulling together some comparison photos of my waist from earlier in my corset training journey as well as now.  Keep in mind that I’ve actually gained weight (while dropping body fat and losing inches) over the past couple years.  Not all results are due to lacing up, but that sure didn’t hurt!  Most notable is the change in my rib shape - they are much more tapered now.

Keep an eye out for those comparison photos this week.  They aren’t profound, but the difference is visible.

Q&A #1

Thank you all for the hundreds of messages of support and encouragement! You all are awesome! There’s no easy way for me to respond personally to each and every one of you, so I have collected some of the more common questions to answer in one post!

1) How tall are you?  5’ 7"

2) What was your eating habits like?

Truthfully, I have suffered from binge-eating disorder most of my life. When I finally got serious in Jan of 2013, I just researched what macronutrients are good vs what aren’t, found meal ideas on pinterest. I really did not follow a diet, I just slowly learned what is healthy for my body and what foods weren’t. I rarely eat fast-food ever, no pop whatsoever, and did not consume much alcohol last year either. I will make separate most on meal ideas a little later. But for those of you just starting out, do your research and find healthy meals that look doable for you whether its on pinterest or other tumblrs!

3) What’s your workout routine?

What really motivated me fitness wise was running. I signed up for a 5k that was in June. I spent April and May training for it via the Couch25k plan (you can find it online!). I remember the first day I could barely keep a light jog for 2 minutes… now I’m up to 9 miles in distance.

Running has changed my life in so many ways, I am excited to see what my accomplishments will be this 2014! (Let’s hope for a few Half-Marathons tho?!)

Right now, i workout basically everyday. If there’s a day I absolutely can’t make it to the gym, I consider it my rest day. I almost feel addicted to working out now, cardio and strength training mostly. Going to the gym is like an escape for me, not so much a “workout”. I truly enjoy every minute of it, where when I first started to exercise it was always more of a chore. That feeling changes over time, I promise… Once you start seeing results, you won’t wanna stop!!

4) Current weight?

I weighed myself about a week ago and it was 155lbs. Last January i was 247lbs. That’s still so crazy.. even to me! 92 pounds down.. I’d still like to make it to the 140’s as long as it doesn’t compromise losing muscle tone. However, I also am a size 8 pants now. I was a size 18 since 2008! I don’t think i have been below a size 13/14 since 6th grade!

While tracking your weight is awesome to track your progress, always focus the non scale victories like dropping a pant size or inches lost or even just how all around better your inner-being feels!

5) Last but not least

If you are just starting on your journey to weightless, health, and fitness you should know one thing that most people forget to mention: the benefits.

These “benefits” include:

  • Adding years to your life, literally! You’re saving yourself!
  • Much more energy.. for life in general!
  • Confidence. If i could tell you or describe the amount of confidence you feel when you take over your body and health, everyone would do it. You’ll all have to find out for yourselves, but trust me its indescribable being happy with who you are and how you look

Thank you guys again for all the love, I can’t wait to post more so keep the questions coming, I’ll answer more when needed!

This experience has been the biggest blessing of my life. Being an inspiration to someone is like the most rewarding part of it all.

I joined westpark the end of 2014 as I had put on a lot of weight while on medication and I really wanted to lose it. I love westpark. The staff are fab. The gym is lovely, clean, bright and very welcoming. I started training with Marcin in April 2015. I had been going to the Westpark for four months before starting with Marcin and I was working hard but gaining weight. I couldn’t understand what I was doing wrong.

After the first month I had not only dropped over a stone, but my inches were dropping too. And even better with his encouragement and support I started liking my workouts instead of dreading them. Working out was fun, he helped me push myself and I was seeing more strength and results. This really drove me to keep going.

My food had been a huge issue. I was fooling myself about what I eat and how bad it was. Like a lot of people I suppose.

I have been training with Marcin for over a year now. I’ve dropped 4 stone and over half of my body fat. Fitness is part of my life and I love it. I am now the person I always wanted to be. Strong. Confident. Happy. And I like my body. It’s not perfect. But I am finally happy. Marcin helped me in so many ways. I couldn’t thank him or the wonderful staff in westpark enough.

Kane/Abby + 56

56. “I can’t stand the thought of losing you.”

She was watching him write something on the marker board in the Chancellor’s office. His head moved back and forth a little every few seconds as he glanced from the transparent, plastic paper in his hand to the marker board.

Abby had stopped paying attention to the journal of medicinal plants she’d been working on some minutes ago. She had only intended to take a short break, but the longer she watched Marcus the farther the journal was from her thoughts.

He was such a warm, steadying presence. All of their missteps along the way and now Abby could honestly say that she wouldn’t be here without Marcus.

“I can’t stand the thought of losing you.”

The words fell from her mouth with all the weight they deserved.

The marker paused mid-air, an inch or so from the board. Then Marcus dropped his arm and turned to face her.

“Where did that come from?”

“I don’t know. Just a thought, I guess.”

They had been honest with each other for a long time, but this level of open vulnerability was as new to them as the more intimate aspects of their relationship.

Marcus smiled fondly. He capped the marker he’d been using and set everything down on the table before crossing the room to stand in front of her and hold out his hand.

“Here’s a thought: we eat dinner and go to bed at a decent hour.”

Abby chuckled as she took his hand and let him pull her to her feet. “I like that thought.”

Marcus pulled her into him and kissed her forehead. When he let her go again they made their way to the mess hall in comfortable silence.
