It’s not everyday that you get to walk the streets of Los Angeles with musician Mereba, to talk about her experience here and how the poverty stricken streets of downtown have influenced and inspired her. She wrote a two-part poem, Done Downtown, to expand on her time here after moving from Atlanta, Georgia. Mereba says “it touches on being a young wanderer in an unfamiliar place, the contradictions of wealth and extreme poverty, gentrification, and other moments I’ve had in passing with my fellow humans downtown.” Find the full poem and photoshoot here.
