American Gods Taps Dane Cook to Play Shadow’s Best Friend

Kimberly Roots, July 15, 2016

American Gods has filled a vacancy at the Muscle Farm.

Comedian Dane Cook will play Robbie, best friend of Shadow and owner of the aforementioned gym, in Starz’s upcoming adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s fantasy novel, our sister site Deadline reports.

Robbie is married to Audrey, the best friend of Shadow’s wife, Laura (played by Sucker Punch‘s Emily Browning), and [Spoiler alert!] he proves to be less-than-awesome person.

The forthcoming series follows recently released convict Shadow (The 100‘s Ricky Whittle) as he accepts a job to become a bodyguard/traveling companion for a mysterious man named Mr. Wednesday (Deadwood‘s Ian McShane). He eventually learns that a war is brewing between the nation’s traditional gods and its new ones, who reflect society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs.
