looking for the dolce vita

Last night I found a pair of ivory Dolce Vita boots that would look so amazing with my interview outfits and I might just be high enough in about an hour to go back and buy them. I think it was Sheryl Crowe that said if it makes you happy it can’t be that bad.

Hey! So I'm getting a really good paycheck this weekend and want to treat myself to a higher end eyeshadow palette. I'm very fair skinned with a neutral tone, and I prefer neutrals and warmer/redder shades over cool toned shades. Do you have any recommendations? I love your blog!

Thank you! xo

I’m glad you want to come to me to help you splurge :)

If you really want something customizable and a splurge i’d recommend customizing your own palette from MAC or Makeup Forever. This tends to be pricier than an average palette but you can have shades that you know you’d use daily. Brands that do custom palettes are Inglot, MAC, Makeup Forever, Urban Decay, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Buxom, Makeup Geek, NARS and Surratt.

If you want a ready made palette i’d suggest something like the…

NARS Narsissist Loaded Eyeshadow Palette.

If you’re REALLY looking to splurge… Natasha Denona Sunset Palette or the Star Palette.

Charlotte Tilbury Dolce Vita Quad

Pretty Vulgar Early Bird Eyeshadow Palette

Kevyn Aucoin The Legacy Palette

wanted to compare this supposed dupe bc no one has the money to always repurchase something thats $27!!

nars dolce vita lip pencil ($27) vs. mamonde creamy tint balm intense velvet red (mine was on sale for $4.50)

you need a light hand with mamonde’s to make it look like nars’s swatched, but once blended out they look the same

dolce vita has a pinker undertone while velvet red leans more brick

mamonde’s is dryer and drags more on the lips, nars’s is super soft and glides

on the lips mamonde’s is still pretty red even blended out, while nars’s doesn’t look like you have lipstick on at all (just makes you look rosier/livelier i LOVE IT)

but the price difference is so gud so although its not a 100% dupe its still A+

Tea and Tears

Hi everyone… so i wrote a fic which takes a bit of a different spin on the way Delia reacts to Patsy inviting the others to the film. I have also taken a bit of license in that I believe Nurse Crane & Trixie know about our besotted couple …..

let me know what you think!

A special thank you to @mysuppressedfeelings for helping inspire this fic and reading it through and generally being super encouraging and lovely xxx

Tea and Tears

Delia sat by the window in the darkened living room of Nonatus house, staring pensively out of the rain streaked window, raindrops reflecting the tears that ran down her cheeks. Her heart was aching, or at least that’s how it felt, like someone was squeezing and compressing her chest so hard that she found it almost difficult to breathe. She knew that things could be worse, they had been worse, but everything felt so overwhelming. The day had started out well, she had been waved off to her shift by a pyjama- clad Patsy, the sun had been shining and she had felt on top of the world. Finally, things were back on track.

Or so she had thought. Her shift was a nightmare, she had been thrown up on twice, and had been shouted at for no real reason by a new and overly obnoxious junior doctor. It was ok though, because she knew that she had the chance to spend some quality time with Patsy. But then Patsy had invited Trixie to the movies with them. Delia knew she had meant well, but she wished that she had thought about how special it could have been. Delia had been so looking forward to sitting in the theatre, holding Patsy’s hand, resting her head on her shoulder, stealing a few kisses in the dark. But now that wouldn’t be possible, and as much as she knew she was over-reacting, Delia was so upset. The toll of forever keeping their love a secret was so draining. As she stared at the cobbles, watching the puddles forming in the cracks, her whole body longed for a time where she could just be free to show the world how much she loved Patsy.

Phyllis Crane had had a long delivery this evening, twins who were more than comfortable sharing their cosy space away from the world. On her arrival back to Nonatus. she had quickly turned her instruments back around, sterilised and ready for her shift in the morning, and now all she wished to do was to sit back in her favourite yellow arm chair with a cup of Yorkshire’s finest tea. She was not, however, expecting to come across the poor young nurse, curled up in a ball on the window seat, body shaking with grief.

“Oh pet” she said quietly, not wanting to startle Delia, “come now, what on earth could be the cause of such a fuss?” She went and sat next to Delia, placing a comforting arm around the shoulders of the younger woman. Delia slowly raised her head, and attempted to wipe away her tears with the back of her cardigan sleeve. “Oh Nurse Crane, I’m sorry, I didn’t realise anyone was still up. I didn’t mean to disturb you”

“No no, you have done nothing of the sort, but tell me, what has made you this upset?”

“I…its… honestly I have just had a bad day, and… well I was hoping that…” she sighed, “never mind.”

“Now my dear” said Phyllis, handing Delia a clean hanky “could this be an affair of the heart?” she raised her eyebrows and gave Delia a knowing look.

“I…I…” Delia stammered. Her heart leapt into her chest, did Nurse Crane know? How?

“Now I don’t mean to pry, but I have a good idea of the problem, and believe you me, there is much in this world that is awful, much in this world that causes pain, but one of the most confusing is the way the human heart loves. I won’t interfere any further but remember, you are one of the lucky ones. You have someone who loves you, and have been given a second chance. Now, how about I make us a nice cup of tea?” And with that she patted Delia on the knee and made her way purposefully towards the kitchen.

Delia gave a watery smile, and took a deep breath in. She knew Phyllis was right, she was lucky and the fact that there was someone like Nurse Crane who knew of her troubles, but was still supportive and willing to lend a kind word, restored some of her faith in the world.

As Nurse Crane made her way to the kitchen she came across a sleepy looking Nurse Franklin, who was sitting at the bottom of the stairs attempting to untie her shoelaces.

“Looks like you’re another one who is in need of a nice cup of tea, wouldn’t you say Nurse Franklin?”

Trixie looked up wearily, “Oh that would be wonderful Nurse Crane, thank you”

“Now, you make your way into the living room, and I’ll bring it through, and between you and me Nurse Franklin, there is someone in there who needs to see a friendly face”

“Oh really?” Trixie enquired

“Yes, it appears that our Nurse Busby is having a bad day with regards to affairs of the heart and could do with a pick-me-up” and with that she hustled the blonde nurse towards the living room, and a sniffly Delia.

Little did Nurse Crane know that she would momentarily bump into the one and only Nurse Mount, who had been sitting at the kitchen table. She had overheard Nurse Crane telling Trixie that Delia was upset, and knew it was her fault. She shook as she tried to hold in the sobs of guilt that threatened to overwhelm her. She wanted to go through and pull Delia into her arms, but she couldn’t bring herself to do it in front of the others.

“Ah Nurse Mount” Phyllis said sternly as she spotted the bleary-eyed red head. “Just the person I was hoping to see this evening, and judging by the tears I think you know why.” Patsy gave her a look which reminded Nurse Crane of a lost puppy. “Come on now dear”, she pulled Patsy to her feet, giving her a brief but firm hug “you know what you need to do. Why don’t you head up and give your face a wash and I’ll send her up in a bit?”

Patsy shook her head, “No, thank you but I think I need to fix this now” and with that she left the older woman to make the tea.

As Patsy turned the corner into the living room she could see Delia and Trixie sat together on the sofa, Trixie making Delia laugh softly at some anecdote from her shift earlier.

Patsy immediately felt even more guilty, she should be the one making Delia smile, not making her sad. She coughed quietly and the two other nurses turned to look at her, Trixie’s expression one which clearly said “I’m mad at you because you made my friend sad”, Delia’s expression unreadable to most, but Patsy could see the mix of emotions there.

“Trixie” Patsy murmured, “Would you mind giving us a minute?”

Trixie began to shake her head “I really don’t think that Delia wa…” but Delia laid her hand on Trixie’s arm

“It’s OK Trixie” and so with a sigh Trixie got up and bustled past Patsy saying quietly as she past “Don’t mess it up”

Patsy nodded gently.

Patsy shuffled from foot to foot, waiting until she heard Trixie making conversation with Nurse Crane in the kitchen. She then looked up at Delia who was watching her, the sadness evident on her face.

“Oh Delia,” Patsy said, crossing the room and pulling Delia into her arms “I’m so sorry. I’m so, so sorry” she began to pepper Delia’s face with kisses, kissing away the fresh tears that had started to fall.

“Look at me Deels, please?” Delia slowly opened her eyes, Patsy cupped her chin with her hand and brought her face up so she could look directly into the ocean blue eyes of the woman she loved. “I know I need to do better, and I promise, from now on I will do everything I can to make it better”

“How Pats?” Delia questioned, her voice hoarse with held back emotion

“Well first” and then Patsy kissed her tenderly, pouring as much love into the kiss as she could.

After a few long moments, longer than they had ever dared before, Patsy pulled away and said “and secondly, Delia, I know we have said we will go to the flicks with the others, but please would you accompany me to the Opera next Saturday?”

Patsy lowered her head, nervously playing with her hand in her lap.

“Oh Pats, you didn’t?”

“I…I felt so bad, I knew how much you were looking forward to La Dolce Vita, and I went and opened my big mouth, and I just wanted to spent some time with you, away from everyone, and I messed up, and I’m so sorry you’re upset, I do so hate it when you are upset, and I have been wracking my brains all day, and then I remembered how much you said you wanted to go to the opera, so I rang the hospital and checked that you didn’t have a shift and…”

Delia pulled her into a bruising kiss, the crushing feeling she had felt earlier had vanished and was replaced with so much love for the woman in front of her she thought she might explode. As the kiss came to an end Delia said “you do ramble so when you’re nervous Patience Mount”

“So will you come?”

“Of course I will, you silly goose, but you didn’t have to do such a thing. I just wanted to be with you, alone for once, I’m afraid that I’m not coping with the façade so well these days.”

Patsy took Delia’s hands in hers running her thumb across her knuckles.

“I know my darling and I’m so sorry that it has to be this way. I promise that from now on, while we are at Nonatus, I will do my best to relax a bit more. It appears that we aren’t doing the best job of it anyway if Nurse Crane’s words are anything to go by, and Trixie’s for that matter”

Delia chuckled “No I guess we’re not” and with a final gentle kiss to her lips, Patsy pulled Delia to her feet

“Come on, I don’t know about you but I could do with that cup of tea now” Delia nodded and as Patsy made to move away, she was tugged back into Delia’s arms, who gave her a tight, firm hug, burying her face into the other woman’s chest, “I love you, Patience Mount.”

Patsy smiled and dropped a kiss into the shorter woman’s hair, “I love you too Delia Busby, no matter what.”
