Waahh, I'm jealous of how shiny and soft Waldi looks. ;o; Is there any secret you use to make him have such a shiny, vibrant and soft coat? Or is it just a lot of grooming? My mare, (dark bay) washes out a lot in the summer, and isn't really shiny. I'd love to have her all dark and pretty looking! <3 Thanks Saf
Secret to having a shiny horse? Make sure it’s a fucking diva.
But to be serious, there’s nothing particularly special that I feed him! He gets basic feed for sporthorses and some muesli (which might help a bit, but can’t be the cause). I don’t feed my horse supplements, simply because I’ve never felt the need for them and I have no knowledge in the field.
I’ve cared for horses before and I’ve had nothing quite like Waldi in the past. It’s like he keeps his own coat clean for me. He doesn’t really grow a thick winter coat, either. I left his neck bare this year, and through the snow and frost he perhaps grew like three more hairs. It’s insane.
There is a difference between his summer and winter coat, though. His summer is redder (I like the winter one better, tbh).
Upper is summer, and lower is winter.
But then again, my diva would never roll in mud or in the grass. If he can avoid it, he wouldn’t even step in a fucking puddle. It’s like… Waldi…. live your life…. But no, he just doesn’t want to get dirty.
I’ve found that he gets shinier depending on the brushes I use. I have a simple, soft grooming brush that I use for daily care. It leaves his coat shinier than when I use a curry comb and a harder brush.
I’m sorry I don’t have the secret! I’ve once heard that healthy horses get shiny coats, but through his bout of sickness Waldi still looked like a freaking mirror, so I don’t know how true that is. I guess it just depends on the horse! Thank god for glitter and shine spray. 8)
