Karlie Kloss Wishes Taylor Swift a Happy Birthday With Sweet Throwback Photo

Karlie Kloss Wishes Taylor Swift a Happy Birthday with Throwback Photo from Their Vogue Shoot

December 13, 2017

Karlie Kloss and Taylor Swift may have busy schedules that keep them apart, but that didn’t stop Kloss from celebrating her pal on social media on her birthday.

The supermodel and close friend to the Reputation singer posted a sweet throwback selfie of the duo on Instagram in honor of Swift’s 28th birthday today.

“Happy happy birthday @taylorswift! 💫” Kloss captioned the beachside shot.

The throwback selfie appears to be a behind-the-scenes look at the two stars’ famous March 2015 Vogue cover shoot, which they graced together in honor of the fashion magazine’s Power Issue.

The spread, shot by photographer Mikael Jansson, followed Swift and Kloss on a road trip in Big Sur while giving readers insight into their highly publicized friendship, which started soon after the two met backstage at the 2013 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

“People had been telling us for years we needed to meet,” Swift said. “I remember makeup artists and hair people going, ‘Doesn’t she remind you of Karlie? God, she and Karlie would be best friends. They’re the same. Karlie’s such a good girl. She brings us cookies every time we do a shoot.’ ”

Fellow VS model Lily Aldridge was the person who ultimately introduced Kloss and Swift. “And we were just like, ‘You. My friend. Now,’ ” said Swift.

Despite their superstar statuses, the two claim their friendship is as normal as it gets. “We’re both normal people,” said Kloss.

“We’re real girls,” Swift added. “The fun thing about my friends is that they don’t necessarily know a lot about what I do business-wise. I’m not the person who grabs the guitar at a party and wants all the attention. I have attention on me enough, so I want my friends to just like me because we have things in common rather than me sitting in a corner being like, ‘Listen to this song that I wrote about my life!’”

While Kloss’ name appeared to be absent from Taylor’s “Squad” shirt in the “Look What You Made Me Do” music video, generating buzz of a rift between the BFFs, the pair have seemed to maintain their friendship and Kloss was very happy for Swift when she took home the Song of the Year Award at the 2017 CMA Awards for writing Little Big Town’s “Better Man.”

Yoooooo how do I deal with a homophobic friend??

If it’s a long term friend then say, “look. We’ve been friends a while and you can’t accept me for who I am even though I’m the same person the problem is you.” If it’s a short term friend you could say “you liked me before I was gay, what’s different now?”
If it’s one of those asshats that day bring gay is a choice tell him (assuming a gender) either of these things, “If being gay was a choice why would people still CHOOSE to be gay when they are beaten up, made fun of, and ridiculed like you are doing? Why not spare themselves the pain and be straight?” Or if it’s a dude “Make yourself like dick right now. Forcefully make yourself gay and want dick. Can’t do it? Being gay isn’t a choice and I was BORN this way.”
If it’s one of those “it’s a sin” people then fuck them lol.
My best friend was gay and owned GSA so I credit her for sharing me magical gay insight.

U used to be such a sweet girl but now ur just kinda idk thought u should kno

Okay I wasn’t gonna post the shit you just said but I talked this over with my friend so here I am.

In what possible universe is it ever okay to tell someone that? Like you made me wonder if other people might be thinking that I’ve turned into a pretentious asshole. But I have a question for you: what makes you think that? Is it because I announced that I’m gonna go in full study mode for my exams, is it because I do commissions, seriously, W H Y. I need to know since to me I’m still the same bubbly awkward person that I’ve always been.

Maybe it was just your plan to make me feel insecure about myself or make it look like I’m crying for attention *sigh*

there were a lot of references in the new video, did you catch them all? let’s take a look.

1. nils sjoberg

remember that time she wrote a song with calvin harris but used a different name? this is that name, on one of the gravestones. after releasing that she had actually written the summer hit “this is what you came for,” calvin harris, among others, threw a fit on twitter - even though it had been agreed that if calvin and taylor broke up, she could express that she had written the song.

2. the out of the woods dress

this blue dress probably looks familiar! it’s the same one she wore in the out of the woods music video, the last music video of the 1989 era. this poses the same frantic question, are we out of the woods yet? as this grave-digging taylor suggests, not yet.

3. here lies 2014 met gala taylor

at first glance, it just looks like the taylor from before laying there, but after pausing it and going back, one realizes that isn’t zombie taylor, rather 2014 met gala taylor. 2014 would have been the start of the 1989 era, and the out of the woods video was the end of it, thus: by the end of 1989 era, she was ready to “bury” it.

4. the dollar bill

if you look just next to taylor’s shoulder, you can see a good ole george washington. one single dollar bill. is this a reference to taylor’s sexual assault trial recently, and the one dollar she won then? most likely, because if you go to other shots of her in the tub that aren’t directly above her, the dollar bill isn’t there, meaning it was edited in later, which would explain how it got there so late in the game. it stands for the simple victories everyone else gets to celebrate, while she does the same things and gets flack for it.

5. et tu brute

a famous line from shakespeare’s julius caeser, “et tu, brute” means “and you, brute?” right as marcus brutus lands the fatal blow in julius caeser’s, his once-friend’s back. this is a metaphor for all the people that taylor thought she could trust, before they turned around and trashed her name.

6. the tea

probably pretty simple to grasp - the tea is hot. alternatively, she, the snake in the video, gets to serve the tea this time around, or, she gets to lay down her side of the story.

7. car crash + paparazzi

did you see what happened here, at face value? taylor was in an expensive vehicle that got in a head-on crash, but everyone just stood back and took pictures, instead of rushing over to help. is this a reference to all the times that everyone stood back, took pictures, and laughed at her when she was beaten down? yes.

8. the grammy

the grammy blends in with the gold of the car and her outfit, so it’s pretty easy to miss, but there it is, in her hand, even though the car crashed. perhaps the future is being predicted?

9. the birdcage + leg tattoo

look closely at taylor’s leg, and you can see what looks to be a snake tattooed there. not to mention, here she is entertaining in a birdcage, which is guarded. she’s trying to have fun in this prison, biting her tongue, being the girl everyone wants, but she longs to be let free.

10. robbing a bank/stream co., blind for love

besides getting major harley quinn vibes, what else do we notice here? taylor swift robbing a vault, which says “stream company.” remember that time that taylor wrote an open letter to apple music and called her money hungry, even though she was taking her music off to benefit poorer artists? yes, we do. this is what she’s referencing here. also, her shirt says “blind for love” which makes sense, because she frequently refers to herself as a hopeless romantic, someone who opens theirselves up for love, even if it means getting hurt.

11. the squad

without explaining anything else, this scene can be described as a crowd of blank faced people, staring at taylor swift, who stands upon a stage looking menacing, and impressing one message upon the crowd: u, squad. it’s reminiscent of all the times people said taylor swift was over, because her friends, fans, or sales were fake or temporary. this is like a visual representation of the comments people made about taylor forcing people to do things for her to create the image she desired.

12. fake friends

and here we have the mannequins of the girls from the prior scene, chopped up. this one is pretty straight forward, these “friends” that taylor thought she had sometimes turned out to be more fickle and “fake” than she thought. also, can we talk about how taylor’s red boots are reminiscent of kinky boots? because yes.

13. the dancers, i heart ts

before taylor enters the room, the dancers are goofing around, but the second she comes in, the jump to attention, and rip off their jackets to reveal shirts that say “i heart ts.” it’s a throwback to when tom hiddleston wore a shirt with the same message on the fourth of july in 2016, and everyone said that she had forced him to wear it. it’s the same thing as before with the squad - the world decided that she had forced all these people to love her, not that they actually did.

14. the fight for glory

every time you pause this video, you come across a different taylor. squirrel pajamas wanegbt taylor, 2015 bbma’s taylor, 2014 acm’s taylor, wanegbt red tour taylor, 2016 new years rockin’ eve taylor, sparkly guitar fearless tour taylor, bleachella taylor, ballerina shake it off taylor, 2016 vma’s taylor… the list goes on and on. here, you can see them all fighting and clawing, trying to stand on top. it reminds me of “i don’t like your kingdom keys, they once belonged to me,” and the parallels between long live and new romantics in that line alone. all those times, she thought she’d made it to a point in her career where she could be respected as much as other artists in her tier, only to harshly realize she was going to get her name ran through the mud for doing the same thing as everyone else. the fight for glory is steep, and unfair.

15. junior jewels

looks familiar right? not quite! it is the same theme of the shirt, but look closely at the signatures - they’re signatures of actual people this time around. names like ed, selena, este, lena, blake, and ryan, among others, can be seen on her shirt, representing the true friends that stuck with her through her reputation being bashed.

16. “SHUT UP!”

here, all the different versions of taylor are repeating things that the media or other celebrities had said about her, until finally 2009 vma’s taylor repeated the same thing that 2017 taylor said in an instagram post - “i’d very much like to be excluded from this narrative.” the entire time, you can hear camera shutters going off and people chatting, presumably the rest of the world watching as she got torn apart. when vma’s taylor makes this final statement, all the other taylor’s, as well as what sounds to be an entire off-screen crowd, yell “SHUT UP” before the screen goes black. this is a powerful image, and it’s supposed to be. all the times she suffered, and people told her that she was overreacting, faking it, or doing it for publicity. if you feel remorse for seeing young taylor getting yelled at, or sorrow for the taylors falling when she said “because she’s dead,” you’re doing it right.

nothing in this video was an accident.

if you’re angry at taylor for this video exposing things you said about her, or you’re repeating any of the words the versions of herself said at the end, you’re proving her point. her reputation was destroyed because people made a sport of making fun of her. and now, as taylor said, there will be no explanation, just reputation.

Taylor Swift on the media | January 2016 | Grammy Museum

“it got pretty out of control there for a couple of years. Every article was like ‘taylor swift standing next to some guy– watch out guy!’. Every single article had these descriptions of my personality that were very different from my actual personality. My first reaction was ‘man that’s a bummer, this isn’t fun for me’. But my second reaction ended up being ‘hey, that’s actually an interesting character they’re writing about… like she jets sets around the world, collecting men and she can get any of them but she’s so clingy that they leave and then she cries in her marble bathtub surrounded by pearls’”. “Feindesliebe” (ger.) - loving your enemies

“They sent me to kill you. And I tried… I really tried.

But I couldn’t do it.

Because he loved you.

And when I look at you like that, I know the reason

why he did.”

Okay, so today I finished watching s3…. And hooooly shit. I totally understand why a lot of people think the “new” Shiro might be a clone. There’s definitely something wrong with him. Not sure if he’s really a clone or they just put something into is brain, though. But something’s fucky.

So here’s some clone!Shiro (or Kuron?) stuff I made after watching the last episode. Because… what if the real Shiro is still out there and the Galra sent their “Project Kuron” to infiltrate the castle and kill the Paladins one by one?

But since Kuron seems to have acess to all of Shiro’s memories and emotions, he falls for Keith instead of killing him. And he falls hard.

Keith in return knows exactly that this isn’t his Shiro… It’s just small things, like the way Kuron looks at him or touches him with his Galra-tech arm, without noticing. It’s the way Kuron lets himself fall for Keith in a way Shiro would’ve never allowed himself to.

So… what if Keith falls for the clone instead of the original?

(btw, I’ll still stick to my smol bean Kuro and the headcanons I made for him… Kuron is just…another Shirogane? :) Like Shiro, Kuro, AND Ryou aren’t enough already. One can never have enough Shiroganes.)

list of things in look what you made me do that were fucking amazing:

  • the TS as the camera hovers above the clouds
  • ‘Here Lies Taylor Swift’s Reputation’ followed by 1989 era zombie Taylor in the Out of the Woods blue dress (her last video of the 1989 era, excluding New Romantics which was tour footage) climbing back up from the dead
  • The tilted headstones which she ‘fixes’
  • Nils Sjoberg, the pseudonym Taylor wrote This Is What You Came For under was seen on a gravestone
  • The $1 note in the bathtub that she won from her recent sexual assault trial whilst bathing in riches, a dig at people who accused her of being money hungry (whether it be the trial or in general)
  • The numerous references to snakes…. the snake ring, sitting on a throne with snakes around her, swinging in a snake cage… then sipping her tea on the throne
  • ‘Et Tu Brute’ is written on her throne and the on the columns of that shot (used to express surprise and dismay at the treachery of a supposed friend)
  • The Grammy in her hand when she crashes the car. The car is a maserati. ‘Maserati down a dead-end street…’ I wonder what song that lyric is from? Did you say Red by Taylor Swift? And she’s holding a grammy? RRRRRRrrrrandom access memories? Hmm
  • As she swings in the snake cage, everyone guards her… a metaphor for how she was treated during that time
  • Literally wearing a cathead and a ‘Blind for Love’ sweater, she robs a bank titled ‘Stream Co.’, referencing how everyone says she’s money-hungry since when she removed her money from Spotify and the Apple Music letter
  • The names of all her friends are on her Junior Jewels shirt
  • The word Squad flashed on screens as all these women are aligned up, wearing similar wear to the Bad Blood music video, referencing how everyone kept categorising her friends as a ‘Squad’ even though she’s never explicitly called it that or intended for it to be that
  • Coming into the room and having a scribe immediately write stuff down. When people described her as a ‘Diva’
  • The ‘I Love TS’ croptops the dancers wear…. a reference to a shirt an ex of her wore last year and people dragged her for that
  • Standing on top of all old versions of her from the You belong with Me video, Shake It Off video, WANEGBT video, Fearless Tour, The Red Tour, Out of the Woods…. as she declares ‘The Old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now… cause she’s dead….’
  • The ending dialogue, where variations of Taylor appear, throwing back everyone’s joke: ‘Stop making that surprised face, it’s so annoying’, ‘What’s with that bitch? Don’t call me that?, ‘Y’all!’, ‘Stop acting like you’re all nice, you are so fake!’, ‘Oh there she goes, playing the victim again’, ‘HISS!’, ‘What are you doing? Getting receipts! Gonna edit this later!’, ‘Uh, I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative…. SHUT UP!’
The world was expecting Reputation to be a celebrity self-pity party, after her September single “Look What You Made Me Do,” airing her grievances about getting mistreated by other famous people. Even if you think her complaints were totally justified, they felt like a dreary waste of her creative time, and many fans were dreading the idea of a whole album’s worth. But sorry, world – that was just one of her Swiftian fake-out moves, because there’s nothing else like that song on Reputation. (Whew.) Instead, she’s playing for bigger emotional stakes – this is an album full of one-on-one adult love songs. That’s a daring swerve from a songwriter who’s scored so many brilliant hits about pursuing the next romantic high. Taylor might love the players, but nowhere near as much as she loves the game.

so recently, there were a lot of really bad spoilers leaked about ML. i can’t imagine how this must feel as a creator, to have all your hard work just thrown out like that for everyone to see, completely out of context. it’s really awful.

in support of thomas and his team, the discord server i am in decided to start a small project: #HeartsForAstruc –  even after everything, we still love this show and look forward to the new season. this show means a lot to many people. i am  personally really thankful it exists. i have made so many good friends through it,  it’s brought me closer to some old ones, and it’s something me and my daughter can enjoy together. honestly, it’s really hard to put into words how much each of these things mean to me. so just… thanks so much for what you guys do. esp thomas, for creating such a great universe for us to play around with. really, thank you so much.

for anyone else who would like to join in: draw a character [or two, or more; can be ML charas or ml oc’s, or yourself if you want] offering hearts. doesn’t have to be a sign, just some sort of love hearts. post it with or without a message, up to you, and then tag it #HeartsForAstruc. let’s cheer the team on. :D/

Song Review: Taylor Swift’s ‘Look What You Made Me Do’

By: Chris Willman for Variety
Date: August 25th 2017

Well, it’s not just the lipstick that got darker. Taylor Swift sounds like she is never, ever getting back together with her old ingénue image in “Look What You Made Me Do,” the first piece of fresh solo music she’s released since 2014. This is hardly Swift’s first time playing defense in song, but the tone of the tune is intended to get you thinking the bad blood she sang about three years ago has seeped a little deeper into her bone marrow. For these three-and-a-half minutes, at least, she’s an even badder Type A.

This introductory track from her upcoming “reputation” album (due out Nov. 10; the small R is hers) feels like the un-celebratory flip side to the previous album’s leadoff single, “Shake It Off.” The catharsis and playfulness are a little harder to pick out in this one, though they’re there, if you listen hard enough, amid some textures and lyrics that sound a little on the grim side on first listen, and maybe second or third play, too. “I got smarter, I got harder in the nick of time,” she sings, in case anyone is still imagining her with that 2006 curl in her hair.

But if you’re au courant enough on all things Taylor to think that maybe those short clips of snakes she started posting the other day represented a desire for some skin-shedding, or that she really intended to send a signal when she wiped all her social media clean, Swift essentially confirms that with a spoken-word aside here: “I’m sorry, the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, because she’s dead!”

Actually, it’s not just that late interlude that’s spoken-word; it’s the entire chorus, which consists of the title phrase, slightly amended, repeated over and over, over a throbbing-bass rhythm, as if she and producer Jack Antonoff had designs on doing an electro-clash update of the boom-car classic “Supersonic.”  (It’s the writers of Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Sexy” who get a co-writing credit for a perceived similarity, though.) It’s part of the cleverness of the song that the tune’s pre-chorus seems to be building up to something big, only to drop into something so flatly stated, steely-eyed, and subwoofer-based. Whatever grander hooks she has in store (and based on past experience, you’d have to imagine there will be plenty on “reputation”) will have to wait until after this alluringly scowling teaser trailer of a single.

Who’s it about? Given how little of Swift’s previous work belongs in the fiction category, it’s a reasonable question, and one that’ll probably break certain sections of the Internet for at least the next few days. “How you laugh when you lie / You said the gun was mine” could be about a certain celebrity ex who publicly cast blame on her for a breakup, or about a certain perennial sparrer who leaked her phone calls to the world. Maybe the net should be cast wider, to a whole world of haters, as Swift sings about karma and adds, distressingly: “I don’t trust nobody and nobody trusts me.” That’s plasma, not tears, on her (MIA) guitar.

But it’s not exactly a victim song. “Honey, I rose up from the dead, I do it all the time” is the ultimate I-eat-feuders-like-you-for-breakfast line. And it’s a sign that, besides undoubtedly being legitimately angry, she’s still having a bit of fun here. “Look What You Made Her Do” makes the superstar sound like a tougher chick than the tougher chick we were already getting to know, but there’s also the undeniable element of Swift being a girl who just wants to have fun… the fun, that is, of playing around with her own fury.
