look at how observant cas is

Perfect Ten

Summary:  Just like his freckles and bowlegs, Dean’s slight pudge has always been a part of himself that he’s never felt completely comfortable with.  After a few miserable days of unsuccessful dieting and choking down rabbit food, Cas reminds him exactly how beautiful he is.

“You’re getting kinda chubby!”

Charlie makes this remark lightly, offhandedly, as she passes by Dean on the way to breakfast that morning:  Dean had been stretching his arms overhead in a yawn so that his cotton shirt rode up over his stomach, which Charlie takes the opportunity to poke.

Startled, he looks down just in time to see the disconcerting way in which her fingertip sort of smushes into the soft, freckly flesh.

Dean halts in his tracks, blinking comprehensively.  “Wait, what?”  is all he can think to say.

Charlie, who’d been nonchalantly continuing on her way down the hall, turns to look at him.  “Well, you don’t have to sound so offended about it,” she laughs.  “I didn’t mean it in a bad way or anything!”

Dean folds his arms defensively.  “Then what did you mean, Charles?”

“First of all, I answer only to Charlie, Ms. Bradbury, or the Illustrious Queen of Moondoor.  Next, I just meant you put on a couple pounds.  Maybe getting a bit of a tummy.  It’s no big deal.”

Dean looks comprehensively down at his stomach.  Now that he thinks about it, he has been eating more these days – he’s been going through sort of a “nesting period” during his relationship with Cas:  lots of baking pies, burgers, etc.  He didn’t think it was noticeable.

Taking note of the gravity of his expression, Charlie laughs, punching him lightly in the shoulder.  “You don’t have to look so glum about it!  It’s cute.”

Dean glowers at her, tugging self consciously at his t-shirt.  “M’not cute,” he mutters grouchily.  “I’m a warrior.

Charlie laughs again.  “Alright, warrior.  Hurry up and take care of your morning breath – Kevin’s making waffles again!”

With that, Charlie skips off down the hall, leaving Dean to steep in his juices.  He lets Charlie laugh it off, of course – he knows she didn’t mean any harm – but the fact is, Dean’s always known he’s had a little bit of pudge around his midsection, and he’s always been the slightest bit insecure about it.  Just like his freckles and bowlegs, it’s one of the things about himself that he’s never particularly liked.

His one solace was convincing himself that these features weren’t as noticeable to everyone else as they are to him.  Now, that seems to have changed.

Dean pulls up the rim of his shirt, noting sourly the way in which his pudge protrudes slightly over the waistband of his pajama pants.

Suddenly he doesn’t feel so hungry anymore.

Dean had always thought that a good quality comforter was the most luxurious thing to wake up under. But ever since he started waking up like this, his thoughts had changed entirely.

As sunlight gently peeked through the curtains, shining a cautious soft beam of light over the queen sized bed, Dean felt Castiel’s large, black wing loosely drooped over his body. The feathers were softer and warmer than anything a comforter could ever get him, large enough to cover his upper body and part of his legs. He smiled lazily. The feathers brushed against his bare skin as he stretched and moved around to shift closer to its owner.

Castiel lay on his back, his other wing stretched out over the edge of the bed down to the floor, his naked body exposed, blankets kicked aside in his sleep. Dean looked at him from under the wing, his fingers automatically gliding over soft raven feathers and smooth lines, known little bumps and the thicker parts.

Castiel looked peaceful. His lips were slightly parted as he slowly breathed in his steady rhythm of sleep. Dean lay there for a while, observing Cas as he let the warmth and softness of the feathers embrace him. He caressed he feathers still. Dean had been mesmerized by them ever since Castiel first exposed them. They were huge, majestic, and radiated a power Dean couldn’t compare with anything else.

And yet, they looked gentle and fragile when Cas injured them and Dean picked out the ruffled feathers. Castiel had taught Dean how to groom them and use the preen oil, an activity Dean found himself to enjoy, often compared with soft chatting. Sometimes a movie would be playing in the background as they sat on the floor and Dean plucked feathers, pressing kisses in the crook of Castiel’s neck.

Sometimes, Dean would take it a step further with his massages, out to get the little whimpers and groans from Castiel. He’d ended up with a panting, desperate Castiel several times, Dean’s hands full of feathers and his own body filled with arousal.

He loved it all. The quiet moments, the loud ones, the moments when Castiel held Dean with his wing or when they lay on the couch, curled up together with Castiel’s wings wrapped around them. Dean couldn’t get enough of them.

Castiel muttered softly and stirred, his eyes opening slowly.

The wing draped over Dean fluttered and shifted in Dean’s fingers. Cas turned to look at Dean, blinking the sleep from his eyes. The angel smiled.

“Morning sunshine,” Dean whispered and his own lips curved as well. Castiel made a soft noise and shifted closer. He stretched his wings for a moment, then covered Dean with his right one again and pulled him closer with the wrist of his wing.

“Good morning, Dean,” Castiel muttered, his primary feathers rustling. “Did you sleep well?”

“Yeah,” he answered and pressed a sloppy kiss to Castiel’s unshaven jaw. “How couldn’t I, hm?” He slipped his fingers into the pack of feathers carefully, and Cas smiled again.

“You seem to enjoy my wings a lot.” They moved again.

“I think they’re beautiful, you know that.”

Castiel shifted and pulled his wing in, gesturing his head. Dean understood and he got up so Cas could slide his wing under Dean. As soon as Dean sank down into the feathers, Castiel pulled him closer.

Dean’s naked body pressed softly against Cas, covered by the angel’s wing and casting a shadow over their faces.

Dean kissed Castiel’s jaw again, pressed a few more kisses down his neck and shoulder.

The wings replied to the touch, shifting and shuddering when Dean softly nibbled on the skin.

“It’s rare for an angel to show his wings this… casually.” Castiel spoke, his voice still thick with sleep. His eyes were closed again, enjoying Dean’s kisses. “It’s only for… special occasions. And special people.”

Dean looked up and feathers softly brushed over the back of his head and Cas looked back. He softly rested his hand on Dean’s waist. “You’re special, Dean.”

Dean didn’t know how to reply, shy suddenly. He smiled a coy grin and pecked Castiel’s lips.

“Think I’m glad about that.” He muttered, shifting back into the feathers. This was how Sunday’s had to feel, he thought. Calm and peaceful and warm and right.

He found Castiel’s hand and tangled their fingers together.

“Maybe we should get up for some coffee soon. I’m sure Sam’s already awake.” Dean whispered, his eyes closed.

“Probably,” Cas answered. “Just- not yet.”

Dean hummed in agreement and gently slid his free hand through the silky feathers. He didn’t want to think about the case they were working on or the monsters they had to fight. Not yet. Just a few more minutes.

An observation.

So i was rewatching 5x10 when Jo and Ellen die and we all know how much Dean was fucked up by Jo dying. But when the building exploded Dean looked very visibly heartbroken. But he was able to walk away with Sam because there was a bigger problem (Satan) that they needed to deal with right. He was still responsive. And yet with Cas dying in 12x23 there was kinda a bigger problem (Satan Baby) and he couldn’t he dropped to his knees. He wasn’t responsive. We all know how much Dean cared about Jo everyone shipped them if she didn’t die maybe they could’ve been together with the closest to happy they could get and yet Cas’ death effected him worse even if “destiel isn’t real” it just shows how much Cas means to Dean and it made me a sad. Too many feels happening at once.

hey there, so i always wondered about the purpose of dean's church confession in 10x16, what the hell were the writers trying to tell us?

Well…. it’s a part of Deans whole storyline since the pilot - a component of the exposition that his 12 years of story that we have been watching is all emotionally driven, a character based arc rather than plot based, all centering around Dean’s journey to self acceptance and self worth.

It’s also in large part a part of my #performing!dean tag and I imagine every meta writer’s performing!dean tag as performing!dean is a large part of this arc, the deconstruction of which leads to his self acceptance and works alongside his self worth.

At this point in 10x16, Dean is realising that he doesn’t want to die, he doesn’t think he deserves to die…

Remember all Dean’s self hatred, all his self loathing and feelings of worthlessness from earlier seasons? Remember how he constantly put himself in harms way because he felt that any life, anyones, was pretty much more worthy of living than his own?

Well, that has changed by this point. He still cares for others and their lives in a massive way and will still put himself in harms way to protect them but it isn’t with the same nonchalance towards his own life, he isn’t actively thinking that his own life is worthless anymore…

Remember this?

Remember how, over the whole show but particularly since Hell Dean has grown, has evolved, not to change himself as such but to change the way he sees and portrays himself to others? How he has started up to 10x16 to let some of his guard down? How only 4 episodes earlier he admitted to liking and listening to Taylor Swift in front of Sam for example? How he has become more emotionally available with Cas since purgatory?

This is all part of the deconstruction of Performing!Dean and his emotional journey to self acceptance… Self acceptance is for me Dean’s whole arc since the pilot. It is with key points such as going to Hell, the introduction of Cas and more recently the introduction of Amara as the exposition but then Mary as her extension as the actual catalyst that we have come to the climax of this arc for Dean in 12x22.

There are moments throughout the show though that of course build to this moment and this is just one of them. The others being for example:

1x09: Dean walks away from Sam to call John about going back to their family home, facing the ghost of Mary, he breaks down and sobs into the phone, revealing that he is an extremely emotional person and family is his weakness but also his biggest focus in life.

2x11: Dean asks Sam why everyone assumes they’re gay, Sam tells Dean he is a bit butch and seems like he is overcompensating (gee, ya think?!).

2x13: Dean and Cassie: basically a huge exposition for the fact that Dean portrays himself as a give-a-shit lothario but when it comes to it he loves and he loves hard, he’s a gentle lover and fell in love with a passionate woman who only left him because she thought it was for his own good and what he wanted, they argue, they stare deeply at each other, they fight, because they care. Sam even tells Dean:

“What’s interesting is you guys never really look at each other at the same time. You look at her when she’s not looking, she checks you out when you look away. It’s just a… just an interesting observation in a… you know… observationally interesting way.”

I even did a gifset parallel with 12x19 of this episode cos dude, exposition much. She’s even called Cassie FFS *Tink looks into the camera*. gifset here.

4x01: Cas looking straight into Dean’s heart and seeing that he doesn’t think he deserves to be saved etc. leading to Dean then convincing Cas himself that they deserve to have Free Will, that they can save the world and they do by s5. *sobs a little at how beautiful this story is and it’s only 2 years in*

The whole of season 7: Dean is an alcoholic mourning Cas and worried for his brother then also mourning Bobby, feeling his life is worthless if he can’t save and protect his family.

MoC era: Dean loses what makes Dean Dean. He becomes hard, full of anger and pain, without the soft side. This is frightening and he would rather die than become like this.

Season 11: Amara is a complete exposition of Dean’s emotions, as I wrote it a few long posts about Amara, search #amara on my blog but here and here are the main ones. She exposes that he feels love but also shame, that he is holding himself back from something (add this to 11x11′s: follow your heart and all the heart / love themes of the early season right before Cas gets taken away and Dean spends the last half of the season desperately trying to get him back while Amara, all powerful being has to use Cas to get to Dean).

Season 12: Mary is the extension of Amara, she is the catalyst for Dean to finally face himself, all this has built and built to the point where, nearing 40 years of age he finally doesn’t want to sublimate anymore, he doesn’t want to hide. This post is my explanation for how Mary is exactly what he needed at this point, I think I wrote it mid season, but it was clear by 12x03 that this was her role and of course 12x22 was a great big wave hello and goodbye to Performing!Dean, another meta I wrote called “Dean Winchester is going to die” after 12x11 harked at the fact that this was coming and wasn’t it GLORIOUS?!

In his confrontation with Mary in 12x14 Dean essentially tells Mary that he thinks he deserves better, this is a huge deal for Dean - a HUGE deal for his self worth arc. He then in 12x22 addresses the fact that his upbringing wasn’t FAIR, that he didn’t cope well with it, that it has damaged him. He lets his wall down, he also literally blows down the walls of the bunker with the grenade launcher, the metaphorical taking down his walls, even Toni says it was a metaphor to hammer this home to us…

So yeah 10x16 is one of the key components throughout the years to show us that Dean’s story is all about his emotional journey to self acceptance of his softer side, the side that he hides by using the Performing!Dean facade, also he talks about people, feelings that he wants to experience differently to before or for the first time…  make of that what you will but for me…

In 10x14 just two episodes earlier we have: Dean choosing Cas over Crowley (to give the first blade to) right after a deleted scene in which Crowley and Cas have a whole conversation about Dean being CAS’s boyfriend rather than Crowleys, and Crowley telling Cas that he is running himself into the ground trying to save him, also Cain paralleling Cas with Colette after telling Dean he knows him.

Not long before that we had the burger date where Dean asked Cas to take him out if he got really bad with the MoC then there was the episode where they were heavily paralleled with a married couple where the wife had to let the husband go for fear of killing more people I mean, not to mention the whole Demon!Dean arc where Cas sacrificed himself to save Dean, where Dean knows it and seems to be… clearing a space on his bed but Cas is pulled away by Heaven again, I love this visual metaphor, where then Destiel is actually brought up on screen in 10x05…. you cannot tell me that…

So yeah, this scene in 10x16 is just part of the overall exposition for Dean’s emotional journey throughout the show, it’s a part of the intricately woven pattern of Performing!Dean and Destiel that alongside other aspects of his journey make up a large part of Dean’s overall self acceptance and self worth arc, with the Performing!Dean side climaxing in 12x22, we are just waiting for the second part now…

You Deserve to be Saved

Synopsis:  Destiel Coda for 12.14.  In which Cas takes issue with Dean perpetually rolling over for his parents and serving as the family’s emotional giving tree.

“So you and your mother reconciled,” Cas reiterates, having just been brought up to speed on the latest Winchester drama.

Dean shrugs, not looking up from the firearm he’s currently dismantling on his bedside table.  “Yeah, Cas, I guess we did.”

“And you…apologized,” Cas concludes.  “To her.”

Dean looks up, a little surprised by how taken aback the affirmation sounds.  “Well, yeah,” he huffs.  “I mean, I was wrong, wasn’t I?  Mary…Mom, she’s her own woman, and I’m my own man.  We’re all adults here.”  Dean pauses, metal clinking in his hands.  “I should be able to get by without someone to…to kiss me on the head every night, or, or make me lunch or whatever.”

Cas observes him quietly, noting the way his head ducks slightly, almost subconsciously, as though he’s ashamed by the admission.

“I’d be happy to kiss your head every night, Dean,”  Cas offers.  “And though I’m not certain my culinary skills are up to par, I’d be honored to prepare you lunch every day as well.”

Dean looks up again, brow furrowed, as though trying to determine whether Cas is serious.  After a few seconds, he manages a scoff.  “Come on, man, I just told you:  I don’t need all that junk.  I’m an adult, and I should be able to act like one.”

With that, Dean hopes the matter will be resolved and Cas will let the subject drop.  Needless to say, he’s not so lucky.

“It’s not childish to crave love, Dean.”

This time, Dean pauses, dismantled pieces stilling in his hands.  He doesn’t look up – just stares comprehensively at the gun in front of him.  Reduced to the sum of its parts, it’s useless.  An ineffective weapon, just like him.

Nevertheless, Cas continues to pull him apart.  “Lunches and head kisses…they are a means to an end,” he says.  “What you really wish for, Dean, is someone to care for you.  To hold your needs as equal to theirs, and to treat you with tenderness and affection.”

Dean blinks damp eyes, wishing above all else that Cas would just stop.  “Cas-”

“You deserve that, Dean,” Cas concludes.  The statement is almost ponderous, as though it’s a philosophical principle.  “You deserve to be loved.”

These words are the final straw, and Dean is the proverbial camel.  He breaks: he hates crying in front of people, even Cas, but he does, heaving quiet, shuddery sobs, pieces of his useless gun still cradled in his fingers like a broken toy.

He feels like a child, but he can’t stop.  Next thing he knows, Cas’s arms are around him, warm and strong and reassuring.

“I can’t…” he tries to say, gesturing futilely to his unfinished sidearm.  “I gotta…I gotta finish this.”

“It’s alright, Dean,” Cas assures him.  “Just leave it for now.  You’re more important than any gun.”

Dean cries harder.  He feels like an idiot, but he can’t help but curl into the warm firmness of Castiel’s chest, letting him hold him tight like he did all those years ago.

They stay like that for what seems like an infinitely long time, Cas resting his chin on the top of Dean’s head and murmuring soothing words in his deep, gravelly voice that make Dean feel as though his muscles are turning to jello.  He knows he should loath to be this vulnerable around anyone, but some part of him – a very large part – loves it.  Needs it, even, at his very core.

“Now,” Cas grumbles, once Dean has calmed down somewhat.  “About Mary.”

“Cas, you know I-”  Dean starts to protest, but Cas silences him.

“I know how it feels to serve as the perpetual punching bag for those around me, and I know how easily it can wear one down.  Even the likes of the great Dean Winchester,” he adds wryly.  “So please, Dean, for my sake if not for yours, know that you don’t have to accept anything other than the best treatment and the utmost respect.  You deserve that, Dean.”

Dean looks up, a tad desperately.  “Cas, look, I get what you’re sayin’ here, and I appreciate it.  But Mary…” He searches for a way to articulate his feelings.  “…She’s my mom.”

“And she’s my friend and charge to protect,” Cas affirms.  “As well as one of the finest warriors I’ve ever known.  This does not mean you have to accept her dishonesty, her manipulation, or the manner in which she’s treated you.  She’s an adult, and it’s well in her rights to make her own decisions – that does not mean you have to passively allow her to hurt you, even inadvertently.”

“She’s not, Cas.  She’s just-”  Dean starts to say, but Cas gives him that irksome, knowing look, and he falls silent, eyelids fluttering.  “Fine.  Then what should I say to her?  Tell her to kiss my ass?  Go screw?”

“No,” Cas refutes patiently.  “Merely inform her that she’s hurt you, specifically what she’s done to hurt you, and then don’t apologize afterwards.”

Dean blinks, attempting briefly to think up some snarky retort, but he falls flat. It sounds so simple, the way he says it.

“Can you do that for me, Dean?” Cas prompts, looking at him with such gentle adoration Dean almost wants to break something.

Instead, he just nods, swallowing wetly.  “Yeah, Cas.  I can do that.”

The two of them just sit there for a moment or two, looking wordlessly into one another’s eyes.  It’s a kind of intimacy Dean’s never had with anyone else in his life.  No one but Cas.

After a moment, he manages a chuckle.  “You know, it’s funny:  all these years, Cas, and you’re still pullin’ me out of hell.  I don’t know how you do it.”

Cas smiles softly at him.  “It’s because you deserve to be saved, Dean,” he murmurs.  “You always have.”

I Like You

“Psst! Hey! Hey, Cas!”

Cas looked around, confused, trying to figure out who was calling his name.

“Look down,” he heard, so he did. His eyes widened in surprise. His best friend Dean was sitting comfortably under the Winchesters’ dining table, eating a large slice of pumpkin pie piled high with whipped cream. “C’mere,” Dean said, gesturing with his free hand.

“Psst! Hey!

“What are you doing?” Cas asked, frowning in confusion.

“Just come on,” Dean said, waving for Cas to join him.

Cas glanced around. No one was paying him any attention. “I have another piece for you,” Dean added, and that was the final motivation Cas needed. He slid down his seat until he was seated next to Dean and grabbing the other plate.

“Why are you under the table?” Cas asked again curiously.

“Because,” Dean said. “There are too many people up there. And Aunt Missouri won’t stop asking me how school’s going. Why does she even care?”

“Oh,” Cas said, taking a bite of the pie. Dean’s mom had made it the previous afternoon, and it tasted as amazing as it always did. “So how long are you planning to sit down here?” he asked in between mouthfuls.

“As long as necessary,” Dean said, dead serious, and Cas noticed, not for the first time, the complete stubbornness in his green eyes.

“I’ll stay, too,” Cas decided, spreading his legs out in front of him and leaning against one of the table legs.

A few years earlier, the Winchesters and Novaks (next-door neighbors and close family friends) had decided to host Thanksgiving dinner together, and they’d done it every year since. All of their family and some close friends would gather in the Winchester’s dining room (and living room because they had so many people) to eat and be together, and it was one of Cas’ favorite days of the year.

“Did you bring your turkey home?” he asked Dean as he ate his last bite of pie. Their third-grade class had made turkeys out of construction paper during craft time earlier that week and Cas personally thought that Dean’s was the best. He’d told him as much when Dean had finished, and he remembered how Dean had flushed with pride.

“Yes, it’s on the fridge,” Dean said happily. “Mom said it was beautiful and wanted to be able to see it all the time.”

Cas smiled too. “Mine’s in my bedroom at my desk. I had to make sure Gabe wouldn’t steal it. He’s mean sometimes.”

“Yeah, he is,” Dean agreed. They peered out from under the table, observing what their families were doing. On the other side of the room, Dean’s parents John and Mary were looking at the pictures on the wall and making comments about them. Cas’ mother Naomi was not far away, having a discussion with a friend of hers from work, Linda Tran, as Linda’s son Kevin stood not far away. They could see Gabriel chasing Dean’s younger brother Sam around, Sam laughing hysterically, and in the corner by the TV Uncle Bobby was talking to Ellen Harvelle, both of them completely absorbed in their conversation.

“I think they like each other,” Cas said, eyes pausing on Uncle Bobby and Ellen.

Dean followed his gaze. “Me too,” he said. “I think Uncle Bobby’s gonna ask her out and then they’ll kiss. That’s what grownups do when they like each other.”

“What do kids do when they like each other?” Cas asked curiously, and Dean shrugged.

“I don’t know,” he said. “Share toys? Draw each other pictures? Maybe they kiss too.”

“Really?” Cas asked, and Dean nodded. Cas pondered that for a moment before leaning forward to peck Dean on the lips in an innocent kiss. “I like you, Dean,” Cas said, and Dean grinned.

“I like you too.”

Fifteen years later, Dean and Cas (now twenty-three) sat on the couch snuggled up together after a full Thanksgiving meal. Most of their family had gone home by now and their parents were cleaning up while Sam and Gabriel had gone outside to talk, leaving Dean and Cas alone in the living room.

“How many years have we been doing this?” Dean asked, fingers tracing light patterns on Cas’ arm.

“You mean this?” Cas quipped, referring to their current position.

Dean laughed. “No, having Thanksgiving dinner here,” he said. “It’s gotta be eighteen years at least…”

“Something like that,” Cas agreed. “Why?” he asked curiously.

“Nothing, I was just thinkin’ how we sat under the table that one year to eat our pie. Remember? And we watched what everyone else was doing ‘til they left and we fell asleep.”

Cas smiled. “How could I forget? And your mom had to carry us up to your bedroom so we didn’t spend the whole night on the floor.”

“She did, didn’t she,” Dean said with a chuckle. “I wonder if we can still fit…” Dean mused as he stared at the table, and it was Cas’ turn to laugh.

“We were quite a bit smaller then,” he teased.

That didn’t stop Dean from standing and reaching out his hand, an unmistakably mischievous twinkle in his eye. “C’mere,” he said, and Cas recalled eight-year old Dean saying the same thing. He hadn’t been able to resist then, and he wasn’t able to now either.

Dean got down on his hands and knees and crawled under the table, careful not to bump his head as he sat up and Cas followed him.

“Hi,” Dean said softly.

“Hi,” Cas answered with a smile.

Dean glanced around. “Wish we had some pie.”

“Yeah, it’s not quite the same without,” Cas replied, nudging Dean’s shoulder.

“I know what would make it better,” Dean said slyly.

Cas humored him. “And what would that be, Dean?”

Dean shifted so he was kneeling in front of Cas and pulled out a little black box from his jacket pocket, opening it to reveal a beautiful gold band. “Marry me?” he asked simply, and Cas sat in shock for a second before he came to his senses, rising up to grasp Dean’s face in his hands and pull it to his, kissing him breathless. “Yes, yes!” he whispered. “God, yes!”

Dean smiled against his mouth, and murmured, “Good.” They broke apart so Dean could slide the smooth gold band onto Cas’ finger and then Dean pulled him in for another kiss. When they separated again, Cas laughed.

“This is where we had our first kiss,” he said. “Is that how you planned it?”

Dean nodded bashfully. “I, uh, wanted to make it special.”

“Well, you made the perfect choice,” Cas said with a smile.

That night, as they cuddled up together in Dean’s old bed for the first time as an engaged couple, they watched the stars out the window, something they had always done during sleepovers at Dean’s house. Just before they drifted off to sleep, Dean uttered three familiar words and Cas replied as he knew how.

“I like you.”

“I like you too.”

fawert  asked:

Since Sam and Dean don't exist in au, Michael and Lucifer definitely skipped the true vessel bs then went to war with angels and demons in their true forms (angel blades sticking out of the ground proves it). That means au Cas is in his true form and Jimmy Novak is probably dead in a ditch somewhere. I hate the idea of Jack resurrecting Cas cause that'd be too easy and basically turns him into god. So when Misha comes back, how can they bring Cas back with him?

Nonny 1: i saw the ask in which the Anon is wondering if they would make Misha play AU Cas, but i don’t believe they would do that, in fact it really wouldn’t make a lick of sense, because Cas in that AU aint Cas, what made Cas the angel we know and love is that he was the one who pulled Dean out of hell, Dean who changed him and taught him free will, and in that AU dean was never born to begin with, so AU Cas would be just an angel.

Nonny 2: Hello! I was wondering about the possibilities and any possible theories on the bizzaro-Narnia AU-where-Dean-and-Sam were never born world. Do you think that it could be explored, or that we might see AU! Cas? Not as in an outright replacement, but maybe 1 or 2 episodes with him as a commander of a garrison of angels? You’re by far one of the most optimistic meta writers I’ve met and I really need some happy speculation to get me through hellatus. Sorry if you’ve covered this before. Thanks!

Hello, lovelies!

So, three wonderful asks that all have to do with this AU World that’s been so suddenly thrown into the mix. I’m glad I get to tackle this topic! Thanks fawert and Nonnies! (and forgive my reply taking sooo long!)

The basis for the following speculation is that I believe the narrative is closing as the writers are moving it towards endgame. Everything in S11-S12 is telling me this because S11 began the movement by forcing Dean Winchester to admit to himself that he is properly, truly, madly and deeply in love with Cas. Read more on my thoughts about this here.

In short:

  • Dean Winchester is our Protagonist
  • His character growth is what informs the narrative
  • He wouldn’t have been set on this particular path of character growth if he hadn’t met Cas
  • Dean’s growth is what is allowing him to let go of Sam, ending the brodependency, and granting him the insight to find his true self-worth, through self-acceptance
  • His self-acceptance has a whole lot to do with letting go of his toxic masculinity spiel
  • His letting go of this will be most clearly demonstrated by him fully embracing the fact that he’s in love with a man
  • Happiness with the man he loves is Dean’s reward for completing his character growth, reaching the internal goal of his character arc: which is self-acceptance

Now, I don’t know that this is where they’re taking the narrative, okay? Let me be perfectly clear about that. No one knows exactly what they’re planning (except the fuckers themselves) and they might go absolutely crazy in order to drag the narrative out for six more seasons.

However - and this is a big however, you guys - the writers have consistently, and with extreme due diligence, built a slow-burning love story between Dean and Cas that is beginning to peak - that’s what S12 gave us - meaning that going absolutely crazy to drag this love story out will jar with everything that’s come before.

Let’s not forget that our story is about love, and sacrifice, and love.

Love is mentioned twice by Metatron because our story has always been foremost about love.

  • They do kinda live out of the Impala and go state to state so their dad can find a job
  • They have money, but not a lot of it
  • And they pretty much live somewhere until either they realize that there isn’t going to be any jobs there or John gets fired
  • So ye things kinda suck for them
  • But then again they’re the Winchesters so……
  • So anyway, y’know Dean kinda walks into school with this I-don’t-give-a-shit attitude bc he’s probably going to be gone within a month so at this point he doesn’t care
  • But ye ppl see this scruffy looking teenage boy walk in and immediately kinda step away bc wow he looks like bad news
  • I mean, he kinda makes friends and makes out with a few girls, but he doesn’t have any real relationships, platonic or romantic
  • And he’s fine with that bc that’s the way he wants it
  • He kinda learned that he shouldn’t get too attached if he’s just gonna move away again
  • But oh gods please help him for what happens next
  • So y’know everyone’s kinda going about their normal lives and stuff
  • And Dean goes to his locker to grab his books and stuff so he can go to his next class
  • He puts his locker combination in and pulls the door
  • It doesn’t open
  • He tries again
  • It still doesn’t open
  • He bangs on it
  • Nothing
  • He kicks it
  • Zip. Zero. Nada.
  • So ye he getting rlly frustrated with this crappy locker
  • And then he feels a tap on his shoulder. His green eyes meet cobalt blue ones
  • “What do you want?” he says, sounding irritated.
  • “You have to pull it up, then open it,” the boy says. Dean looks at him confused. He then grabs the handle of the locker, pulls it up, and ofc it opens
  • “Um… thanks?” Dean says.
  • “My name’s Castiel, but most people call me Cas.”
  • “Dean.”
  • THE FRIENDSHIP BEGINS!!!
  • So ye they kinda become friends but you know Dean is kinda a little distant and stuff and doesn’t completely trust Cas and yadda yadda yadda
  • But so like, Cas is an amazing artist????? Like soooooooo good it’s just literally beautiful
  • Dean wishes he could make something that beautiful but rlly he’d rather watch Cas paint a picture than do it himself
  • But Dean admires his art
  • Like so much
  • Like sometimes he’ll just sit with Cas and watch him draw or paint or whatever he’s doing
  • He asked if he could keep a few pictures
  • His favourite is one of an angel
  • Cas never draws Dean in front of Dean
  • Actually Dean has never seen a picture of himself that Cas drew
  • Bc Cas is kinda embarrassed that he literally just loves drawing/painting/sketching Dean bc wow he’s beautiful
  • Frick he thinks he’s crushing
  • But ye Cas definatly has a lot of drawings and paintings of Dean bc he can’t help himself
  • You get inspiration where you can get it and Dean inspired him
  • When Castiel painted his first picture of Dean smiling with a ton of radiant colours that’s when he figured it out
  • “Holy frick I’m in love with Dean Winchester.”
  • Cas is a little scared bc it’s Dean Winchester ye u don’t mess with him and having a crush on him is way bad news
  • Plus Dean is his friend like no friends are supposed to be off limits
  • Nope nope nope nope nope
  • But when u have a crush it’s a little hard to bury it and make sure it never climbs back out of it’s hole
  • So when Dean comments on his art or says something that nice to Cas, Cas blushes a lot and is at a loss for words
  • So beep bop boop Cas is very much in love with Dean and he knows that someday Dean is probably gonna rip his heart to shreds
  • Now Dean is trying very hard not to get attached to anyone bc he probably gonna leave in a month or so. His dad hasn’t had the best of luck looking for a job
  • But HOLY SCHNITZEL HOW CAN SOMEONE BE AS PURE AS CAS
  • LIKE HOLY FRICK THAT BOY IS TOO PURE FOR THIS WORLD
  • Dean would lowkey protect him at all costs
  • I mean, sometimes he can get a bit annoying and he isn’t the most talkative person but HOLY POOP DEAN LUVS IT
  • Dean just…. needs help
  • He tried sooooo hard not to let anybody past family into his heart but this boy did it in some how in some way
  • And he need help bc he falling for him and he doesn’t know what to do
  • So ye they both hopelessly in love but neither of them can see that the other likes them and they know that it will probably end in flames
  • So doot da doo one day Cas comes by the motel room for some reason idk maybe they need to study for something and Cas’ house wasn’t free idk
  • So Sammy is the one who answers the door and has literally no idea who this guy is bc wtw Dean who the heck is Cas???? And who names their child Castiel???? Like that’s child abuse Dean.
  • So Sam has to go find Dean to make sure that he isn’t letting in a random stranger and Dean just gets so annoyed bc Sam I told you my friend was coming over today my god
  • Now Sammy has heard about this so called friend bc Dean talks about him without actually meaning to and I mean, Dean brings home a lot of random drawings that Sam definatly knows aren’t Dean’s bc he is in no way an artist so ofc he asked who drew them and Dean’s like “Just a friend.”
  • So Sam has heard a lot about this friend and has a very vague suspicion that Dean has a small tiny crush on this friend but he has no idea what this friend looks like or what’s the friend’s name
  • He didn’t even know if it was a boy or a girl, tbh
  • But ye Sammy meets Cas and Cas is being super awkward and stuff and just has no idea how to interact with people
  • Dean shoos Sam away so they can study
  • But Sam is spying on them
  • It didn’t take too much observing to realise that they both have huge gigantic crushes on each other
  • I mean he knows his brother and Cas is blushing way too much
  • So ye he becomes the captain of the Destiel ship
  • All aboard crazy town
  • So Dean goes outside to the vending machines to get them two cokes
  • And literally Sam takes the first second he has and walks right up to Cas and says, “You should ask him out.”
  • Cas is like “what the freak” and is so confused bc this literally came out of nowhere like wtw
  • “Wh-why would I do that?” Cas asks.
  • “Bc you like him.”
  • “Wh-what?”
  • “And he likes you.”
  • “wHaT?!” he shocked
  • “Do it. Please, just make him happy for once.” (bc y’all know that sure Sammy is gonna be an annoying little brother but in the end he just wants to do whatever it takes to make his brother happy)
  • Cas nervously nods his head, now a lot more nervous than before
  • “You better not hurt him, Castiel.” (bc yes Dean is a protective big bro but Sammy is a protective little bro too)
  • Tbh Cas is a little scared of Sam now
  • Dean walks in. “They where out of coke so does root beer work for you?” Dean asks, putting the room key on the table
  • “Oh it’s fine” Cas is sketching now
  • Oops a blob became Dean
  • He’s drawing Dean
  • Oops
  • The picture pretty much takes Dean’s breath away
  • Like holy schnitzel
  • He falls a little deeper in love
  • Cas puts down his pencil, standing up and walking to Dean. They end up close. Rlly close.
  • “Dean I….. Can I ask you a question?” Cas says
  • “Of course,” Dean says
  • “Can I… Would you…..” Oh gods this is a lot harder than he thought
  • “CanIkissyou?” he says finally. It comes out in a rush and is definatly not what he wanted to come out he was just supposed to ask Dean to the movies or something
  • “What?” Dean says, not sure if he heard correctly
  • He very much hopes that he did
  • “Can I–” but he stops bc he realises that there lips are centimeters apart
  • He can feel Dean’s breath on his face
  • Frick
  • And shoot he didn’t even know what the heck he was doing just some how in some way he kinda accidentally um maybe went forward a few centimeters???? Um well ye uh now he has the problem that he’s kissing Dean Winchester
  • Frick
  • Dean is literally so surprised and has no idea if it’s real
  • Then, he comes out of his shock and wraps his hands around Cas’ waist, deepening the kiss
  • And Cas is literally screaming on the inside bc this is literally even better than his fantasies
  • And also ofc Dean is literally being softer than he has ever been with anybody ever
  • When they break away they both blushing way too much like gods help them
  • Sammy walks into the kitchen and sees them standing close together with both of their cheeks looking like tomatoes and is like “What the freak happened to you two”
  • Dean is like “Don’t you dare say anything.”
  • Sam giggles and leaves
  • “I have wanted to do that for a long time,” Dean admits, and then he kisses Cas again
  • Oh gods wow they literally end up being the cutest couple at school
  • Dean calls Cas his little angel
  • Cas is constantly drawing stuff for Dean and believe it or not he actually is pretty good at love letters so Dean gets sum amazing stuff from him
  • Their perfect date isn’t anything fancy it’s kinda just going out for cheeseburgers
  • But they love it
  • Dean and Cas are constantly “stealing” John’s car and just driving around and stuff (not that Cas likes cars, he just loves seeing it make Dean happy)
  • They try to keep at the back of their minds that Dean might have to leave soon
  • They don’t want that to happen
  • But sometimes, during a long weekend or a particularly bad night the thought drifts into their minds
  • Dean would just ask his dad if he could try getting a place of his own or stay with Cas but he doesn’t want to go anywhere without Sam
  • So :p
  • But good news!!! John actually finds a good job!!! :D
  • All of them are happy little dorks
  • And UGH JUST. SO. CUTE!!!!!!
  • Yup that all i got ( @destielsolangeloshipper u mind if I tag u in this??? I sorry to bother u)

anonymous asked:

it's interesting that Dean sees himself as handsomer than Sam, but will call Cas "deviously handsome" Just an interesting observation, make of that what you will ;)

well he has eyes.

He’s called himself the cuter brother since the pilot. He knows what he looks like, he knows how people respond. He’s been called pretty so much and it’s just another way he reduces himself…he’s a pretty face and a grunt and nothing more in his mind.

But also he’s super gay for cas

The Lies We Tell Ourselves

Characters: CastielXReader ft. Sam Winchester

Word Count: 1503

A/N: Drabble request by @charlotteofcamelot – “Could I maybe request a super short drabble of Cas interacting – and I don’t mean sexually – with an overweight character that has body image issues, please?” Reader has serious self-doubts about their body. Enter Castiel stage left with the fluff. I have a theory that’s why he wears the trench coat all the time – extra pockets to carry more fluff. (P.S. You specified “super short” length, but my muse is not so great at following instructions. I had to give up editing it because more words kept getting added. Oops!)

This is pointless! I have nothing to wear! Your frustration grew more and more unbearable with each article of clothing hastily pulled from the closet and tugged over your round shoulders or yanked up too generous thighs and ultimately yielding the same unsatisfactory reflection in the mirror. Ten minutes. We’re leaving in ten minutes. You’d have settled for looking just okay at this point. You weren’t out to win any beauty pageants tonight. Far from it – only going out for cheap drinks and live music in a hole-in-the-wall bar with shitty lighting. But nothing fit right. Nothing made you feel good enough to go out with the Winchester brothers. Not with Dean and his gorgeous green eyes and charismatic personality and boy-next-door bod who managed to make flannel and layers simultaneously approachable and sexy. And certainly not with Sam and his devastating combination of a swoon-worthy sculpted muscular build and bottomless intellect for deep conversation – not to mention better hair than you on your best days. Ten minutes, ten hours, it doesn’t matter. I look terrible! Worked into a tizzy, you chucked your favorite oversized sweater at the mirror, knocking it from the dresser in a cacophony of shattered glass, and flopped defeated onto your bed. I’ll just stay in tonight. It’s not worth it.

“Y/N,” a sharp knock echoed on your door, Sam’s warm voice sounding from the other side, “you alright? I heard a noise.”

au where cas is colorblind and experiences pure color for the first time (‘with these cool glasses, cas, i saw them online’ 'im not sure about that dean’), and is fascinated by the blue sky, the red cars and berries, the golden sunlight but most of all he’s fascinated by green

his heart tightens as he sees all the colors the leaves can be, and he doesn’t understand how people can just step on grass so green and alive… he’s already tearing up until he turns around and sees a happy, beaming face and twinkling eyes with the most gorgeous array of green and gold he’ll ever see.

weak-kneed, cas takes a few steps forward, cupping dean’s face in his hands. dean looks surprised, blushes, and sam observes with a shocked smile once cas whispers a choked, shaking, “dean… your eyes.”

In which Dean Winchester watches that show about ice skating because Charlie keeps bugging him about it, and Cas tags along.

“Oh look, they kissed. I was right after all, Dean.”
“Jesus, Cas! That wasn’t a kiss, it was just a very dedicated hug, they were hugging.

Admittedly, the only reason Dean Winchester started watching that random anime that included ice skating, was because Charlie Bradbury -the sister he never wanted, but totally adored-, kept endlessly bugging him about it. Claiming that it had changed her life, or whatever. Begging Dean to watch it too so that they could geek out over it together, because she needed a buddy to fangirl with, doh.

It wasn’t Dean’s usual genre at all, but on a rainy Sunday afternoon when the bunker was quiet and boredom took over, he gave in and decided to give it a try. If only to make his friend happy, or to see what the fuss was all about.

He made himself comfortable on his bed, balancing his laptop on his legs, clicking on the first episode, rather skeptical when a cheesy song started playing as the intro began.

“What the-?” He sputtered to himself, but kept watching anyway.

Twenty minutes later, he understood, kinda. The show was strangely addictive. There was some humor, the main character was easy to relate to, and at some point Dean had a brief flashback to how he’d felt that one time when Gabriel let him believe that he was meeting his idol Doctor Sexy. Not to mention the other side of it all; the constant fear to fail or never being enough for anyone or anything.

He was about to eagerly click episode two, when a gentle knock on his door interrupted him, and Castiel walked in without waiting for a reply.

“Heya, Cas!” Dean greeted amiably, not bothered by it in the slightest; the personal space between them had gone out of the window altogether now that Cas was living in the bunker too. “Joining team bored?” He added, already scooting over to make room for the angel.

“So it would seem.” Castiel nodded, giving Dean an almost-smile as he sat down on the edge of the bed, taking off his shoes. “Or perhaps I just like spending time with you.”

Dean ducked his head to hide his blush as Cas made himself at home on Dean’s bed, right there beside Dean, their shoulders firmly pressed together.

“What are we watching?” Castiel asked as Dean clicked ‘play’.

Supernatural: What Lore Says Goes

This was a collab I did with the ever-wonderful @fluffyfics and we had some disagreements about it XD so it wound up that I wrote most of this and she lovingly gave me space to do so. I want to dedicate this Sastiel fic to her because she’s the one who’s so passionate about writing and everything I’ve gotten basically bored with by now. The idea was completely hers, so thank her for this beauty.

The part she wrote I marked off in the fic with an indent. I have to give credit to the proper writer, of course. Everything else is mine.

Premise: The hunt for a mysterious monster has Sam stressed over lore books not giving him anything. When Castiel figures out the culprit, he uses his newfound knowledge to his advantage in getting Sam to smile. He loves him, of course.

Words: 2,117

It was midnight and Sam Winchester still had no idea what they were hunting. It was killing stealthily supposedly. All the victims died in their beds. But that wasn’t the creepy part. They’d all died with smiles on their faces, and marks that looked like lashes across their abdomens and legs. Lots of bruising. Sam and Dean had never seen anything like it. And neither had Castiel, for one, since he tagged along with them for the hunt.

Dean had been snoring on one of the beds in the shared motel room, an open laptop lying on his chest.

Sam hadn’t taken his eyes off the old lore book they brought along, and the words were all starting to blur together in his sleepy daze. The Winchester sighed and leaned back in his chair, rubbing his tired eyes.

Castiel, ever observant, stood from the second bed and walked up behind Sam’s chair, pressing into him. He wrapped his arms around Sam’s neck and massaged his shoulders, “You should rest.”

Sam sighed and he rolled his head back to look up at his angel, “I can’t. Not knowing what we’re up against is eating at me. I never heard of anything like this. We debunked witches since there were no hex bags, no ghosts or poltergeists… it looks like such a dead end.”

Cas nodded, not stopping his deep massage, “We all need a clear mind to confront this creature. Why don’t you rest and I continue looking–”

“No, Cas,” Sam shook his head, laying his hand atop one of Castiel’s.

Cas sighed and he leaned down, kissing Sam’s forehead, which made the younger Winchester smile softly.

“What if we both continue the search?” Castiel suggested. Sam heard a loud snore coming from Dean and he smirked.

Castiel’s Kitten

Title: Castiel’s Kitten

Pairing: Castiel x Reader

Word Count: 704

Warning: fluff

A/N: Here we are with Castiel and cats! Nothing sounds better than that right??? I hope you all enjoy this! <3 Don’t forget you can still make requests <3

After the salt and burn was over and done with, you heaved a sigh of relief.  You slumped your body back against the tree that was behind you.  You hoped that Sam and Dean had held up long enough while you dug up the body to burn it.  Your phone beeped, meaning that you had received a text from either Sam or Dean.  As you read the text you nodded with a grin.  Another job well done.  Well, done well enough that is.

When you were done shoveling the dirt back in its place, you heard a faint meow.  You set the shovel against the tree, looking around.  A small kitten slowly approached you, rubbing itself against your leg.  “Aww, how cute,” you giggled.  You sat down on the ground, letting the kitten sit in your lap.

There was a flutter of wings to the side of you.  Castiel saw you sitting on the ground.  As he came closer to you he saw a small orange creature on your lap.  “[Y/N] what is that thing,” Castiel squinted at the creature.

“(y/n),” Cas called, rubbing your shoulder to awake you. Your eyes peered open slowly, your mind resurfacing as you assumed you must have fell asleep while he was driving.

“Cas, is everything okay?” you sat up, taking in all of your surroundings. His hand on your shoulder remained as he nodded.

“Its around lunch, you need to eat. All you had this morning was a cup of coffee, which you and I both know you barely drank,” he responded, concern still evident. The scene from this morning playing over in your head once more. Did you actually throw the mug? Really? You wanted to explain yourself but you knew you couldn’t. How were you supposed to? Not to mention, your stomach growled when he recommended food. You were quite hungry.

Anonymous said: So I saw this quote today and I was wondering if you could do a Dean/reader oneshot based off it? “You don’t know you’ve fallen for someone until after it happens.”

Anonymous said: Hi! First off, I’m addicted to your writing, it’s so good! I was wondering if you could do one where the reader confesses her love to Dean and he doesn’t feel the same way, but after a few weeks/months he starts to fall for her? Whether or not the reader takes him at the end is up to you :) Thank you so much! <3

@-sidetracked- said: Can we make this like, a dean story please where like dean is in love with the reader and he isn’t supposed to be so he tried to forget like all the memories and stuff but she still comes around for Sam and cas and Charlie so he can’t and it’s really hard for him

Purple Ties and Granted Wishes

This is what happens when I have destiel and Jane Austen feels and need to cheer myself up. Enjoy!

“Thank you, dear.”

Dean smiles at Mrs. Leeds as he is supposed to as the polite spinster omega he is. That’s all he does during balls these days: pour out tea, look after children if there are any. Be the shadow on the wall, so that no one remembers the Winchester son who was born wrong.

Until his presentation when he was seventeen, he and everyone he knew believed he’d be an alpha. He wasn’t, and suddenly he had to smile and be nice and pleasant and wait for a proper mate to court him while Sam was treated as the older son and heir.

He bears Sam no ill will. He loves both him and his mate Jessica (née Moore; their father had been incredibly happy about the advantageous union) dearly, and thankfully they feel the same, so that when his father finally gave up on Dean’s thirty-second birthday and told him that he might wear a purple tie if he wished, the sign that an omega considers oneself too old to be courted, he could come to live with them to avoid his father’s disappointed stares.

Possibilities for S13...

There is absolutely no point in me calling these ramblings predictions because I have no frigging clue as to what will actually happen.

That said, with the picture tweeted by Mark of Misha dressed as a plain old civilian, the implications could be human!Cas. Or it, very well, could not be. It could just be M2 fucking with the fandom, as they are wont to do. I do not possess the knowledge of Misha’s wardrobe that some of you devoted lovelies do, but it has been pointed out that it looked as though he was in plain old private wardrobe. Whatever reason they had for putting make-up on him in his plains, we may never know. Or what am I saying - we’ll know in May. *gulp*

And as far as these speculations go, I can only look at what I would want to work with in S13 if I were a writer on the show. My biggest issue with the thought of a separation for Dean and Cas has always been that we’ve partaken, so keenly, in this very scenario before. Actually, we’ve seen Dean worry for Cas twice - first when Cas was possessed by Lucifer, and secondly when he disappeared to Heaven without a word - so rule of three dictates…? I’m looking at this as Dean’s story, mind, and so his worrying journey is paramount to every decision made about plot and supporting cast. Sorry, Sam and Cas, you do fall under that heading, no matter how strong your individual arcs are.

In either case, here’s me spewing my ponderings on the possibilities for S13 onto this dash o’mine. Thoughts, reactions, discussions are more than welcome! I’d like to flag down @tinkdw, @postmodernmulticoloredcloak@floralmotif, @mittensmorgul and anyone you guys want to flag (if I dare be so bold) because I really would love to interact with you brilliant and observant meta-mothers! If my thoughts grab you and make you go hey or ho or WTF, that is. That said, everyone’s input is, of course, welcome. Please never feel as though you can’t ask me to clarify, ask me to elaborate, ask me to dial back (never will) or tell me to generally fuck off (though in which general direction is helpful as I may otherwise end up somewhere completely random and I will hunt you down and hug you, which will, you know, negate the fucking off).

The Seasonal Arcs

Let me start by saying that part of what I’m basing this on is that I’m thinking about the writers well-established use of dual seasonal arcs, where they have repeatedly used one season’s overarching plot line to set-up the truly Big Bad to come in the following season. They did this, and do excuse my simplification of these arcs, with Cas’ bad choices in S6 ushering in the Leviathan threat of S7; with Cas trusting Metatron in S8 causing the angels to fall and setting Metatron up as main villain for S9; with Dean’s salvation from the MoC at the end of S10 bringing in The Darkness in S11; and now they’re doing it again with, as I read it, the World as We Know It vs. the World as the BMoL would have it. I’ll dig deeper into that in a minute.
