Steve's puppy is in love with his shield. She insists on sleeping in it, eating out of it, and is not impressed when Steve tries to swap in a replica to fool her.

Tabitha was tiny and black and white with a little black spot around one eye and Sam took one look at her and joked that she had the same worried crease between her eyes that Steve did.

He’d adopted her from down South, a pit mix of some kind that was attentive and sweet.  And curious. Snuffling around his gear and when she tipped his shield over on accident she went scurrying away, only to creep back when it didn’t chase her and nose at it until she realized it was perfect for a rocking-bed.

Steve took approximately 300 pictures and decided there was no harm in letting her doze in his shield while he set up her bed and bowls and toys and made sure he’d puppy-proofed everything.

Only.

Only that wasn’t the end of it.  A week later, and she was still nudging it with her nose until it tipped over and snuggled in for the night every night.  He’d given her a meat bone earlier in the day and she’d trotted off with it, tail high, to curl up in his shield and chew on it.

It was on his next mission he decided things had to change.  The fur could be easily brushed away and the bone bits washed off, but the leather straps had little teeth marks in them that would soon be big teeth marks and Steve realized he might have encouraged a bad habit without meaning to because it happened to be cute.

So he bought her one of the plastic replicas he found on Amazon and set it on the floor for her.  She was interested at first but had barely gotten a paw in it before she pulled back and left it for his actual shield.  He put treats in it and tried redirection and she kept stubbornly (like you, Sam smirked as he filmed some of Steve’s unsuccessful retraining) refusing to use the plastic shield.

He went on Etsy and bought a cosplay replica that was an impressive facsimile.  So good, Tabitha laid down in it.

For five minutes.

It was Clint who finally fixed everything, sending T’Challa a series of photos and a note that simply read “a little help?”.

A week after that, a package arrived from Wakanda.  Inside, a perfect replica of Steve’s shield in pink, white, and blue with “Tabitha America” painted on it and half-dozen leather straps for her to chew.

I hope sixteen-ish years from now, whatever NHL team drafts Lucca Carlson has this on hand to play for his first game and his teammates all give him unholy amounts of gleeful shit for it.

86 and andreil??

86: โ€œPerhaps youโ€™ll take me out one day โ€” or do I have to make an appointment?โ€ (I combined this with a prompt from foxpaws10ย from ages ago based on this post, and I kind of warped both of your prompts i hope this is still okaaay basically itโ€™s doctor andrew and thatโ€™s all u need to know)

His morning is a string of disasters that begins with covering the ER in the Sunday rush of hypochondriac elderly and fussy children. Itโ€™s one long stretch of kicked over paint buckets, a mess you canโ€™t ignore, splattering the walls and getting on his shoes.

Andrew chose surgery almost entirely for the distance of it, the sterility of a room with a slab of meat, a tray of knives, and a sickness he can actually cut out.

Heโ€™s a doctor because he can be, and patients sometimes like that he doesnโ€™t speak a word to them, like silence equals genius.

He likes that there are some patients that come into the ER unconscious and leave the OR unconscious, and all he has is a problem and a ticking clock. He always solves the problem. He thinks maybe itโ€™s because he is one.

The sinking ship of his Sunday in the emergency room goes from slippery to debilitating with one patient.

Two showy ER doctors with their lab coats off and their sleeves rolled up go into the private room theyโ€™ve cordoned off, and they both come out looking pinched in the face with their stethoscopes clenched in their fists.

โ€œHeโ€™s a fucking disaster,โ€ one of them says, leaning up against the information desk with his eyes still pulling back to the closed door of the room.

โ€œI know. I thought, I dunno. That the news was exaggerating.โ€

Andrew tilts his head and listens without making any move to leave his post, filling out inane charts as illegibly as he can.

One of the residents chances a look at him and Andrew makes a point of catching him. The guy startles, then juts his chin.

โ€œMaybe youโ€™ll get along with him, Minyard. Heโ€™s as crazy as you.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™ve mistaken the hospital for a playground,โ€ Andrew says mildly. โ€œGive me his chart.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€

โ€œHis chart.โ€

He looks at his friend, mouth slack, and then the one holding the chart holds it out like a dirty rag.

โ€œHeโ€™s Bostonโ€™s starting striker,โ€ he stage whispers. Andrew takes the clipboard and ignores him, scanning the details. โ€œWeโ€™re not supposed to let any patients know.โ€

โ€œThat Neil Josten is causing a scene ten feet away from them?โ€ he says, and the men titter uncomfortably. โ€œWhy should he get the luxury of privacy?โ€

โ€œHow did youโ€”โ€œ

โ€œThe news is available to everyone, Bryant, you fuck.โ€ He rounds the desk and makes for the closed and shuttered room, dropping the chart in the receptacle outside.

โ€œHe shouldnโ€™t be allowed to practice,โ€ someone says behind him, and then someone else, softer, scornful: โ€œsurgeonsโ€.

Andrew wrings the door knob and finds himself abruptly face to face with the singular most swollen person heโ€™s ever seen. Heโ€™s obviously bolting for it, his gown gaping at the neck and someoneโ€™s stolen shoes jammed on. Andrew scans the defiant face, the shock of red hair, the near invisible trail of blood from an incorrectly removed IV.

โ€œSit down.โ€

โ€œNo.โ€

Andrew watches Neil Jostenโ€” and it is him, one of the handful of strikers on Bostonโ€™s team and certainly the most newsworthy โ€” size him up. His eyes run the same circuit Andrewโ€™s would if he were looking to fight his way out: door, threat, surreptitiously behind him for a weapon, back again.

โ€œIโ€™ll drug you,โ€ Andrew says simply. Neilโ€™s good eye, the one that isnโ€™t purpling, goes narrow.

โ€œAre you allowed to say that?โ€

WSH vs ARI 03.25.2017

André Burakovsky and his new friends on ice

say you’re me and you’re in english class, supposedly analyzing lord of the flies but in actuality thinking about manga and how jarring isayama’s pacing is with snk. there’s of course, the fact that the clash of the titans arc takes place literally like a day or two before the female titan arc and pretty much everything happens in a flashback for some reason, then there’s the super-confusing mess that is the uprising arc with politics and some pretty fiiine character development that all happens in what’s probably less than 36 hours.

and then, of course, there’s the return to shiganshina arc where they find out what’s in the basement after foreeever and then… an infodump??? for three chapters??? whyyyy!!

but of course if you really think about it, it makes perfect sense, in a kind of weird roundabout way that requires way too much thinking. but since this is english class of course you gotta analyze the story way too much in ways that the author likely never intended!

okay that was fun now onto actual meta or w/e. and, in case you guys didn’t pick it up from the introductory ramble, manga spoilers!!

  • we know that there’s only one family within the walls (besides grisha) who actually knows what goes on outside the walls: the reisses, the royal family.
    • they’re the only ones able to actually access this power to remember all that happened pre-wall era at will, assuming they have the coordinate
    • there’s only one person with the coordinate power at a time within the walls, so that makes only one person inside (again, besides grisha because he literally comes from outside) who knows everything.
      • AND they can’t tell anyone because it’s pretty overwhelming and terrible stuff
  • we know that the memories of the first king come are pretty overwhelming, completely taking over the holder of the coordinate for short spans of time

(i spent way too long looking for that screenshot but you know what it was fun refreshing my memory)

  • the memories of the outside world probably come rushing to the holder the second they become the new shifter in what’s probably a bunch of flashbacks, and when they come to literally minutes or less later, they’re completely different now that they have all this scary knowledge

(context for those who don’t mind spoilers or have forgotten details: historia’s father’s brother has just acquired the coordinate and is now more or less he god of the walled world. he knows.)

  • which brings me back to what i was originally harping on about: the point of the infodump on what’s going on outside the walls.
    • the reader is blind to all the truths and hidden secrets of the manga, just as everyone within the wall is blind to what happens beyond the titans and outside the walls.
    • and then, all of a sudden, we hit this huge milestone that’s been hyped up for literally 84 chapters, and we’re blown away with all. this. info. in such a short span of time. the meta writers went bonkers and everyone was kind of just screaming with their heads lit on fire.
      • that’s probably how all the reisses who inherited the coordinate felt when they first felt getting all this information

IN CONCLUSION: the way that the info dump was set up might have been intentional, paralleling how both the character’s felt at the time with this sudden heap of new information, and how most of the coordinate holders felt when they first learned everything.

i’m not saying it’s good writing. in my opinion, it was kind of lazy to just “hey kids we’re at this super hyped up, legendary basement have three months of screeching about now knowing everything whoop now there’s different problems yup”. but when overanalyzing it, it makes for a perfect mirror into how the characters themselves are feeling.
