look at all the fantastic people!

I just want to bring to attention the fact that Horikoshi gave All Might’s character his particular appearance out of spite, All Might looks the way he looks out of spite

People actually said “who would want to look like him?” and “ugh he looks old” and “it would be more appealing if he was pretty and attractive”

So Horikoshi was like “Nah fuck u he’s great as he is”

and I love this even more because everyone loves All Might, he didn’t need to be a pretty boy to be a fantastic, well-written, and lovable character and also the fact that Horikoshi drew him like this and puts even more effort into drawing him out of spite is hilarious to me

the time Shinsou met Eraserhead

- Eraserhead is little shinsou’s idol
- shinsou knows all about him! well, all that there is to know (which isn’t much, considering the low profile he keeps)
- but one day, something happens, something that’s a near mirror of a future encounter between a popular hero and a quirkless boy
- it happens when elementary schooler shinsou sees a man and realizes - that’s HIM
- that’s shinsou’s hero!! that’s ERASERHEAD!!!
- and young shinsou, he runs up to his idol
- with the little eraserhead toy his mom made for him (since there’s none in stores) clutched tight in his little hands
- those hands are shaking as shinsou asks - “can i be a hero? a hero like you?”
- aizawa looks at the young boy in front of him, crouches down, and asks - “like me?”
- and shinsou tells him, tells his idol how his quirk isn’t physical like most heroes’ are, and how his quirk won’t work, won’t be effective if everyone knows what it is, so he’s worried that even if he manages to become a hero, soon enough into his career it’ll just be useless
- and aizawa cocks his head, thinks a bit, and then tells shinsou a few things about how he does his hero work and what it means for a hero to have a non-physical quirk
- he’s not going to give a tiny child battle advice, but he makes sure to encourage and reassure him a bit
- and then, then
- aizawa, aizawa asks shinsou what his quirk is
- and shinsou gets nervous and fidgety
- aizawa tells him that it’s okay, that he doesn’t have to tell him his quirk
- and shinsou is ready to cry because this is all so overwhelming
- (his mom watches nervously because she just wants her little boy to be okay and happy and doesn’t meeting your heroes never end well?)
- and shinsou whispers it out, whispers how he can control people, can make them do anything, but only after they respond to him
- and aizawa, he puts it together from all the hints, he realizes that this little boy probably has people being mean to him because of his quirk
- (is this because aizawa was bullied? because maybe aizawa once was a child just like shinsou, would get beat up even when he took his bullies’ quirks away? it’s possible)
- and aizawa just looks shinsou in the eye
- and tells shinsou -
- “that sounds like a FANTASTIC quirk. perfect for fighting villains”
- (shinsou tears up real fast, he’s positively BEAMING at this point)
- aizawa leaves shinsou with a parting comment as he pushes himself up into a standing position
- “I can’t wait to work with you one day”
- “…work with me?”
- “work with you, yes. as heroes. good luck, i know you’ll be a great one.”

- (years later, aizawa smiles when he sees a boy in the sports festival with a mind control quirk, smiles as he recognizes the quirk and thinks back on an old memory)
- (“shinsou hitoshi,” he whispers to himself. “i gotta remember that name.”)

Short People

We have two wizards, a gnome and a halfling, in our party, and the party split up to go shopping. The gnome, for no particular reason, decided to disguise himself as the halfling when he went to buy lodestones from this very friendly goliath shopkeeper named Sebastian. A little later, the halfling showed up at the same shop, also looking for lodestones.

Sebastian: Oh! Back for more already?

Halfling: Um…no? This is the first time I’ve been here?

Sebastian: But…weren’t you just…I… I’m so sorry, I promise I don’t think all short people look alike. I mean, not that you’re short! I just…I’m not racist!

so i was thinking how much people seemed to overlook Lance listening to music in season 1 may or may not be because i always do the same and then this popped out. This takes place sometime during season two. (WC: 1208)

Keith lays down in bed, curling himself against Lance’s side, who is putting on Pidge’s headphones. He breathes in, relishing in the scent of pure Lance

They’re in “Lance’s” room, but in all honesty, it’s both of theirs. Their clothes are both here, they both sleep here, they both brush their teeth and shower here. It’s theirs, and that little word change has never made his heart flutter so often.

But there’s only one thing that Keith is really thinking about. The one thing he always thinks about before they go to bed.

“Hey, Lance?” says Keith, wrapping an arm around Lance’s bare waist.

Lance pauses mid-motion. “Yeah?”

“Why do you always wear those in bed?” asks Keith. He lifts his head, resting his chin on Lance’s chest to face him.

What she says: I don’t know

What she means: Geoff Ramsey is such a good father to his daughter and husband to his wife and a genuinely nice guy and good friend and he loves all of his coworker’s and his best friends are considered his family and he’s been doing so good with eating and being healthy lately and he looks frankly fantastic and people need to stop joking that he’s an alcoholic because he’s so proud of himself for being sober and I will defend Geoffrey Lazer Ramsey to the grave

and then they paint each others nails and come up with wild theories about why Zarkon is such a grump until Hunk bursts in looking for his missing headband

he does agree that space IKEA constantly failing to give Zarkon enough screws to properly assemble his space furniture is a plausible explanation also where do you even find this stuff Lance? and don’t try telling me it came with your lion

(idk i just wanted to draw something cute. i hc that lance really enjoys pampering people since it reminds him of his family, and keith didn’t get pampered at all growing up but he finds that he really likes it, even if he initially only agreed because he didn’t want lance to look so sad and homesick)

EDIT:  !!!! @paladin-pile wrote a fic inspired by this???! it’s absolutely fantastic and y’all need to read it! it’s over here on AO3, go go go! :D <3

This Friday (31st March) is Trans Day of Visibility

[This post refers to TDoV 2017; other years will have TDoV on a different day of the week]

It’s that time of year again! That awesome day where trans people share their selfies and stories. It’s one of the two largest trans advocacy days, the other being Trans Day of Remembrance (20th November). That day is dedicated to mourning and solemnity, while this day is a day to celebrate being alive! Like last year, I’m not sure of the absolute official hashtag, so I’m guessing there’ll be a variety in use, such as: #tdov #transdayofvisibility #trans day of visibility #trans visibility #trans pride #transresistance #trans resistance

This day has been recognised since 2009 and is increasing in popularity and support each year, but there’s still a long way to go in spreading the word. Visibility is something that the trans community often has to struggle for, so this is our time to step out of the shadows, take pride in who we are, and show the world that we exist and we’re here to stay.

If you are trans

This is your day. No matter your gender - whether you’re male, female, or any nonbinary gender - anyone who isn’t cis (ie. whose gender is different from the gender they were assigned at birth) can participate. This is a great opportunity to get involved in the community and be visible. If you’re comfortable, post a selfie. Share your story. This is your time to be proud of who you are! It can get hard and lonely sometimes, but there’s a whole community here who have your back.

If you are not trans

Please also get involved - don’t leave this day just up to us. Today is a day for you to support and listen to the trans community. Show us some love by reblogging some selfies and reading some stories, whether you browse through the tags listed above or stick to your mutuals. Now is a perfect opportunity to learn about our wonderful community and to look at some beautiful people. It’s a win-win, really.

Above all, I hope everyone has a fantastic TDoV! Have fun and keep it positive.

Perhaps the worst thing about being a reader is realizing you are one. Knowing that no matter how many series you devour, you’ll never be part of them. That no matter how many times you re-read a book you won’t ever know more than those counted pages.
And the very worst thing of it all is finishing a novel- even worse, a series- and then…nothing. You are left with the hangover and a bittersweet taste on your heart and maybe a tear or two rolling down your cheeks. One because it was beautiful, the other because it was so sad, and….and the rest because your life won’t ever be that interesting. Your ending will be terrible and just that. And you’ve just read something epic and fantastic and you want it. You want that story, those friends, that love. You want to be the protagonist, or even a nameless character, all to be part of something bigger than your own existence. All to escape this cruel reality we are to live. With nothing. With hollow people getting wasted and getting high and it’s all so empty so empty so empty
So empty and books are not. Stories are full of…of that something you don’t really know how to call. Transcendence, love, adventure, magic. It has something, it is something and you look around your dark room knowing your life won’t ever compare to that. There won’t be a love like that for you, or that kind of adventure and mystery and-and magic when you blow the candles on your birthday cake.
No matter what.
And that’s perhaps the worst part.

Jealous Ranger Headcanons

ZACK:

  • when zack gets jealous, he’s really huffy about it and super obvious
  • like he will pout and cross his arms and whine in his seat if he thinks he’s not getting the attention he deserves (from billy, jason, tommy, or whomever)
  • he’s also super petty when someone makes moves on his significant other(s)
  • ”well if you like them so much why don’t ya marry ‘em, huh?” “zack all i said was that they told me to tell you they say hi” “well if that’s not them comin’ onto you then I don’t know what is”
  • sometimes though when he feels actually threatened, he puffs out his chest and raises his chin to look super tough
  • other times he casually slides into the conversation and charms the threat into submission by aggressively complimenting them until they find it suspicious and gets uncomfortable and leaves

BILLY:

  • you really gotta try to get billy jealous
  • he’s normally pretty zen but he gets really upset when people don’t even try to be discreet about their flirting with his boyfriend(s)
  • normally he’ll just stay quiet and try to convince himself that this is just the other person being friendly, until he really can’t
  • when that happens, his face immediately tenses up, as does his posture, and he looks super offended but confused
  • he’ll start to speak in fewer words, until the other person gets the hint and stops, or jason and/or zack realize how billy feels and shuts down the conversation
  • right afterwards, he’s back to being his peppy lil cute self (which is slightly alarming to the others)

JASON:

  • jason is pretty used to being the guy who gets hit on, not the guy who watches his guy(s) get hit on
  • so, obviously, he’s taken aback
  • the more it happens, the more his patients grows short
  • it’s usually worse because a lot of the time, billy isn’t aware when people are being more than friendly, so the conversation just keeps going. and zack just assumes that people are appreciating how great he is, and doesn’t realize he’s being hit on
  • sometimes, jason wonders if maybe the people hitting on his significant other(s) are more worth their time than he is, but he gets more sullen when this thought comes up, which catches the attention of his boyfriend(s) who then turn their attention on him in concern, effectively cutting off the flirt fests
  • most the time, he just clears his throat very, VERY loudly as he comes up next to his bf(s) and gives a very threatening smile

KIMBERLY:

  • kimberly is the aggressive jealous type
  • if she thinks someone looks at trini in predatory way, she deadass steps in between trini and the person
  • ”… kim what are you doing?” “i’m protecting you” “protecting me from wha-” “SHHHHH they can’t be any more aware of your presence than they already are”
  • trini isn’t used to anyone actually pursuing her, so she can’t really tell when people are hitting on her, which makes kim very irritated
  • she decides it’s her duty to step up to the plate and glare at anyone who looks at trini, boys included even though she knows they’re not a threat
  • sometimes, if she reads way too far into things, she’ll pull the other person aside in private and tell them to back off of her girlfriend
  • kim is constantly reminding herself not to do something she’ll regret. she occasionally gets a little mad at herself for letting her jealously control her even after the ty/amanda thing, but the thought immediately flies out of her head when she seems someone acting too friendly with trini

TRINI:

  • a jealous trini is initially annoyed and exasperated, but it turns to self consciousness pretty quickly
  • since trini is often pretty reserved, it’s less obvious when she starts to panic about her self worth than it is when a jealous jason gets like this
  • she starts questioning why kim even chose her when there’s all these fantastic people giving her attention and compliments, which trini often feels a bit too flustered to do
  • she just works herself up in an anxious fit, contemplating if she should just let kim go so she can have a world of options, or if she should just stay quiet like she’s taught herself to do her whole life
  • kim is a naturally social (and relatively flirtatious) person who’s used to being hit on, and she’s always gone along with it. it normally isn’t until later when trini starts to look guilty around her that she realizes that trini was jealous
  • of course, kim lets trini know she would never leave her, but trini has… pretty obvious trust issues. she tries to remind herself that she IS important to kim for reasons she doesn’t believe
  • kim also has to remind herself that trini’s lack of faith isn’t in kim but in herself, so kim tries to be more mindful in when people flirt with her. though, sometimes kim wishes trini was less complicated and more blunt when jealous

Sorry but what's the woody collective? Any connection to Toy Story?

OH MAN

okay so you know you’ll look at an old post, and there’ll be a person on it saying something shitty, something that’s homophobic, or racist, or has nazi rhetoric or something, but you’ll look at the blog and they’ll have deactived/changed URL?

well, a bunch of people one day just suddenly decided to take a buttload of these URLs, change their icons to the same picture of woody from toy story, and become a series of hivemind woody roleplay blogs who all say basically the same thing, and stuff like “Howdy pardner!” or “There’s a snake in my boot!” and it’s just fantastic

Communicating With Deities

How do I communicate with my deity?

How do I know if a deity is trying to reach me?

How can I tell if my deity accepted my offering?

How can I receive messages from my deity?

The topic of communicating with deities is the question I get asked the most so I figured it was time to give it its own post. Especially because this question doesn’t have an easy answer.  It’s not as simple as learning to give an offering or how to devote yourself to a deity. There’s no step by step, made for everyone and every deity, guide to communicating. Its ultimately something you have to figure out yourself, though I can offer some help in ways to go about figuring it out. But first I want to clear some things up about communication with deities. I feel there are a lot of misconceptions that surround it and I also need to explain WHY it’s a topic I can’t give you an easy answer to. So let’s get to that!

  1. Faith- So I’ll admit that the obsession that a lot of people have with communicating with their deities confuses me. When I started I didn’t really think much of the hows of interacting with Aphrodite because I, just like with any other religion, assumed that I had to have faith that Aphrodite was listening. I feel like a lot of people are missing that, like being a Hellenic Polytheist means you have constant, consistent, and direct messages from the gods, but that’s not the case. Faith is still an element and honestly it remains an element even when you have been devoted for years. You’re not always going to get confirmations on things you do or ask, actually most of the time you don’t. You just have to have faith they are there and listening
  2. Tumblr - This point is directly related to the first point. I believe that a lot of the misconceptions of communicating with deities and even the obsession with it has a lot to do with our community here on tumblr. I’m not here to accuse anyone or point any blame. I’m not even saying that people are lying or exaggerating. I just think because of everyone sharing their wonderful experiences it’s creating an image of communicating being a natural part of a devotee’s everyday life with their deity. I mean maybe it is for some, but not all. Honestly, a lot of what you are looking at on tumblr are snapshots of worship. Maybe that devotee received an AMAZING sign or message from their deity but perhaps that was the first one in a few months. The truth is, just like with most aspects of our lives, we like to share the fantastic on social media, so don’t take everything you read as the “normal” or the “standard” of devotion. The truth is there really isn’t one and definitely not one for communicating with deities.
  3. Skills - It’s important to keep in mind that communicating with deities can be seen as a skill. And just like with any skill there are those who are “naturally gifted” and others who have to practice practice practice in order to see any results. This is also a reason why you shouldn’t look to others’ experiences as the way it works for everyone. They could be one of those naturally gifted people who are just born tuned into the god frequency or they could also have been practicing and doing a lot of work to get the point where it’s easier to receive messages. So those of you starting out shouldn’t automatically think you will begin getting signs and messages right away, it most likely will be something you have to work towards.
  4. Deities Communicate Differently - A big reason it’s nearly impossible to say how or if a deity is communicating with you is because they do it in different ways. The way Aphrodite and me communicate may not be the same way she communicates with another devotee. A lot of it depends on the devotee. We each have a way of communicating that we will be more receptive to, whether you know it or not. Your deity might know that and choose to use that form, even if you haven’t exactly figured that out yet (fun, right? lol). A deity also may choose a way to communicate depending on the message they are trying to send you. They could also pick a way simply because they find it amusing and/or ironic (i’m looking at you, Hermes). It’s really hard for someone on the outside to tell you for sure how your deity is going to interact with you specifically. I can’t speak for the gods and I can’t speak on your personal relationship with them. Again, it’s something you have to journey through and find answers to yourself.

Now that the bad news is over with, how about I give you some good news? As I said above, I can give you some advice/tips on ways you can figure out how to communicate with your deity yourself. Remember this is a process, a journey, it’s not a faucet. Doing one of these things isn’t going to automatically start the flowing of messages. Just keep that in mind! Now onto the list!

  • Divination - Probably the most popular form of communication with deities is using some form of divination. There’s A LOT to choose from so do your research and see what calls out to you and give it a try! Some examples are tarot, oracle, runes, pendulum, scrying, bibliomancy, shufflemancy, just to name a few.
  • Meditation - I strongly recommend everyone try meditation because there’s a ton of benefits to it and one of those benefits is connecting with your deities. Not only can you receive messages and signs while mediating, the act itself opens you up to be more receptive in your everyday life!
  • Astral Travel - This is another popular method used to communicate with deities. Many people talk about not only receiving messages from their deities, but also full on interaction with them. Make sure you do your research before attempting it! It also may help to practice meditation first.
  • Dreams - Okay so this is one of the easier ones on the list to do. Basically start recording your dreams and see if you notice anything either popping out at you or that’s repeating. Sometimes your deity may just simple show up like “hey, what’s going on? You dreamin?” but other times they aren’t that obvious (why would they make it easy on us?). Recording your dreams is a great way to notice patterns because sometimes it can take multiple dreams to get a message. This applies to the universe as well. Like it took me a good chunk of my life to realize that when the universe wants me to pay attention it throws an abundance of something in my dream, where I’ll be like “shit thats a lot of elephants!” and then another dream years later “What is with all these fucking spiders!?”. Keeping a dream journal makes it easier to notice things like that. You can also ask your deity to appear in your dreams if you so choose (of course whether they do or not is up to them). Also if you’re into it you can use herbs and stones to better receive messages in your dreams and to remember them when you wake up.
  • Journaling - Anyone who has been a follower of me for awhile can probably tell you that my answer for most things is “Keep a Journal” and they are probably eyerolling me right now, lol! But I really believe in the benefits of journaling because they are abundant! I won’t go into all of them because we are talking about communicating with deities and damn it I WILL stay on topic! Just like recording your dreams, recording your waking life can help you spot patterns and possible signs that you might miss otherwise. If you’re like me and interact a lot with your deity through emotions and feelings, journaling is truly wonderful! You can start making connections between actions and your emotions that could help you better understand your deity. I also recommend doing this even if you choose to do one of the other ideas listed above. Recording your progress and your emotions is great for looking back on and seeing how far you come especially in those moments when you feel like you haven’t done much. So yeah, everyone keep a journal!
  • Open Yourself - So those of you who are witches don’t really need much explanation on this and honestly you might have already started on this one, but for the sake of those who might not know let me explain. There are different ways you can better open yourself up so receiving messages can be easier. Using certain stones, burning certain herbs/incense, using oils, casting spells, doing rituals, etc. There’s a lot you can do to help open yourself up to the universe! And these aid a lot in the techniques above!
  • Talk To Others - I know what you’re thinking “Wait, didn’t you say that looking at what someone else does is part of the problem?” Yes, i did, but it can also be helpful as long as you find the balance! Seeing how other devotees of your deity interact with them can at least give you ideas and a direction to go in. The key is not to compare and to not see their devotion as the “one true way”. Think of it more as a brainstorming session!

I just want to add that this post is my own personal opinion and personal reasons why I feel I can’t answer questions of this topic. I hope this post was helpful to those of you who took the time to read it!

When did it become OK to be a dick to Taylor Swift?

She has every right to be proud of her achievements

by David Farrell 3 days ago 209 Views

~~

It’s cool to hate Taylor Swift.

If you were to believe what people say about Taylor Swift you would think she is nothing less than an evil mastermind bent on world destruction when, in fact, she is simply a musician whose work has been justifiably recognised for its more than considerable merit.

You may say that people hate on Taylor because Kim Kardashian exposed her as a snake, but in reality this was just the final straw. The tide has started to turn against Taylor well before that. The hate she received and is still receiving for winning the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2015 (which was completely beyond her control by the way) is a perfect example of that.

The fact is that people loathe to celebrate successful people, especially women. When it seems like someone is getting popular, they are immediately seen as too big for their boots and the criticism starts rolling in. They are the real snakes, not Taylor.

A perfect example of this is this article from BuzzFeed which accuses Taylor of making her entire career off playing the victim. BuzzFeed have previously been very supportive of Taylor, publishing articles like “21 Times Taylor Swift Proved She Has A Heart Of Gold”, “17 Reasons Why Taylor Swift Couldn’t Possibly Top “1989”. If you’re going to be critical, then please show a consistent line.

The truth is that now that it’s in vogue to hate on Taylor, publications like BuzzFeed have readily jumped on the bandwagon. Penning a 20-page long essay about how much you despise someone is tantamount to creating a ‘Mean Girls’-esque burn book. Not only is this playground behaviour, but also a colossal waste of everyone’s time. The whole article is redundant because by engaging in a personal attack upon Taylor’s character it ends up doing very thing it claims Taylor Swift has based her whole career on – turning her into a victim.

The disturbingly ruthless character assassination of Taylor has come about in an age when America is rebelling against the traditional girl next door. This once practically untouchable archetype has now been thrown out of the window in favour of celebrating diversity, which is undoubtedly fantastic for society. What we must be careful of, however, is to not go too far the other way in order to achieve this goal of equality.

How can the persecution of what Taylor stands for – the girl next door – belong in the diverse accepting society we want to create? This is a society where there is room for the gay kid, the black kid and the girl next door to sit at the same table, rather than one where the girl next door is left out to justify the years she enjoyed the spotlight over others. That’s called reverse discrimination, which benefits nobody. What we need to strive towards is equal spotlight, equal recognition.

There now exists a paradox whereby white artists like Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, who all received Grammy nominations this year, are still clearly favoured by established institutions such as The Grammys, as evidenced by the events of last Sunday, but their work is unfairly dismissed by the masses as redundant fluff.

Taylor Swift winning Album of the Year angered a lot of people and whether or not it was the right decision it was the decision which was made and Taylor has every right to be proud of her achievement. After all, this was the moment she had worked for since she was 15. The culmination of the fruits of her labour. The fulfilment of her dreams. To rob anyone of that satisfaction is bullying no matter what the reason.

The fact is that ‘1989’ was, in fact, one of the best albums in recent memory, you can check out this BuzzFeed article for all the reasons why. You don’t need to carry a political message in order to be a bloody fantastic album. Taylor’s mastery lies in reinvention and pitch perfect PR campaigns. And newsflash, every single artist manipulates the media – Beyonce herself is just as shrewd a businesswoman and people adore her. It’s a fickle business.

The matter is one of respect. Artists, generally speaking, are much better at showing respect for one another, which is important considering that we lived in an era when pop is looked down upon as a lesser art. Taylor Swift had already declared herself a fan of Kendrick Lamar when she asked him to feature on her song ‘Bad Blood’. If Lamar did not respect Taylor’s work he would have declined, which begs the questions as to why the general public is so damning of Taylor on behalf of Lamar when the artist himself publicly has already declared his respect for her work.

Taylor Swift is an intelligent, strong woman who has managed to create a successful career for herself out of nothing and that is purely based on talent, not playing the victim. Do you think people who buy her albums if they carried the same message, but without her level of musical mastery? Absolutely not. Does society need to change to recognise more diverse talent – of course, but don’t blame Taylor Swift for a problem that should be equally shouldered by all of us.

‘The Rave’ was my favourite Samurai Jack episode when I was a kid, I’m so glad we got to see Olivia again along with Jack’s sick moves 50 years later. It was also nice to see Ashi enjoy herself.

I’m perfectly willing to admit when a show has made a mistake. Hell, I am even professionally educated in knowing how to do so!! And I know damn well which mistakes Wynonna Earp has made.

The end scene of 2x04 was not an error on the show’s part. (Plus, people are focusing on COMPLETELY THE WRONG THING from that scene anyway- Wynonna is possessed. This is a big deal? Why are we not talking about that?)

The “kiss” is not a reason for people to act like this show is suddenly garbage or is unwatchable or whatever else people are saying. It’s a fantastic show with great representation. It doesn’t need that, thanks.

For the record, it was barely even something that could be considered a kiss at all. Their top lips vaguely bumped against each other, and then Gooverly immediately pulled back so that it could transfer into Wynonna.

Wynonna closes her eyes because she’s flinching, unsure of what this thing is doing, and then her eyes snap open when the possession starts to take hold.

The Goo Demon is a monster looking for some chaos, a creature that would absolutely play the most uncomfortable card possible by transferring possession in that way. It wasn’t Waverly doing that. It was the Goo Demon being weird and disturbing and intentionally doing something that would completely lower Wynonna’s defenses by being something she would absolutely never expect.

We’ve seen possession before on this show. In 1x03. And the demon had to enter via the face in that similar way. The only reason that it was able to do so through the air was because it had a powerful magic spell backing it up. This demon is far stronger than the Revenants, we know that, but that doesn’t mean that it has the ability to just leap from person to person without a close contact like this.

That end moment from 2x04 was not a “mistake” on the part of the writers; it made complete narrative sense, and I’m not doing everything in my power to justify a show I love in saying so. I know when a show has made an error. I am  perfectly willing to admit when a show as made an error. This, however, is being blown way out of proportion.

If the incest shippers are being “validated” by something that they are clearly taking completely out of context, by something that wasn’t even actually between Waverly and Wynonna and by something that was so non-sexual that it reminded me of those pecks on the lips that small children sometimes given each other or their parents, then that is their fault for being gross, not the fault of the writers.

  • If you’re otherkin you’re fantastic, loved, beautiful, and important! Don’t forget that!

I think people tend to forget that fan authors get a lot of their motivation from the response that their fics receive. It’s quite important because one of the worst things as a writer is planning and working hard on an idea that you really love, posting it and receiving little to even no response. It’s like a crushing blow to how you feel as a writer and if you’re really as good as you’d like to think you are. It’s like screaming into the void where no one is listening or people hear you but they don’t bother to say something back. And you keep seeing the views go up and up but nothing else aside from those budges. It’s…really hard especially when you’ve put so much hard work into something that you’re proud of.

Sometimes you begin losing that pride and looking at your fic as you begin to wonder if it was a bad idea. It’s horrible when the self doubt creeps in and wrangles at your throat and makes you ponder if writing is really for you.

All I’d like to say is something that has been said multiple times but doesn’t get less important. Leave a kudos on a fic that you’ve enjoyed because trust me, it really perks up an author’s day. I actually smile when I see kudos on my work because it makes me feel like someone has heard me and has gone ‘yeah, i enjoyed this!’. Comments are fantastic and are the one thing that an author would love to see. Comments that are positive or provide constructive criticism are awesome and if you’ve read a fic that you’ve loved and you feel confident enough then leave a comment if you can. Obviously, it’s not by force but if you scream at an author about how much you’ve enjoyed reading their piece, they’re gonna scream back at you with an abundance of happiness and thanks.

Another very important thing that I’d like to say is that you shouldn’t look at how many kudos a piece of work has. Don’t look at how many comments it holds or bookmarks or anything like that. I’ve realized that people (even myself) usually tend to look at the stats of a fic before clicking on it. I think it comes with the notion of the more kudos it has, the better the fic will be when that’s not the case in the slightest. I’ve read many fics which have a low kudos rate and they’re absolutely fantastic and it’s painful to see them not get more recognition because most people are looking for the ‘popular’ ones. That sort of mentality within fandom hurts those authors which haven’t gotten recognized.

Of course, not all fics are going to be everyone’s tastes and I’m not saying that you should read every single fic that is on the fandom archive you’re on. At the end of the day, it’s all about preference and what equates to you as a good fic to read. But don’t hesitate to pick one of your favorite tropes/genres and just go through the tags to see what’s there. If you see a fic that intrigues you, click on it whether it’s brimming with kudos or not. Give everyone a chance within fandom to feel like their work is meaning something and is not simply being ignored by everyone else.

I’m not a saint, I’ve been guilty of silent reading and not leaving kudos or a comment but I’ve been trying harder because I know how much it makes an author happens because damn it, it makes me so happy and makes me want to continue what I write.

All in all, writers within fandom are wonderful and they work just as hard as authors who publish books and maybe even more. They offer their time and effort in the form of writing beautiful stories that we save to read over and over again and have even made us happier than reading an actual book.

It’s just important to remember them and that they’re here and trying their hardest and doing something fantastic.

It’s a simple push of a button to leave a heart, make an author’s day.

And fuck those who say that writing fan fic isn’t real writing, get off my lawn.
