Then I decided I was tired of rotoscoping so I decided to try some regular ol’ free-hand animation. Here’s some of my progress on the rough pass of a shot I might use for my alternative EP for Voltron’s Season 3 (plus a background I threw together to contextualize her movement).
This is my second attempt at animation (the first being one I had to fit inside a zoetrope and therefore had a limited number of frames it could use), and I’m not really using any guides outside of a tutorial I watched for my software–just stuff I know from being a fan of animation. Which means I’m probably doing a lot of stuff wrong and/or making it harder than it needs to be but whatever. We’ll see how it goes.
So some dumb girl tried to sneak into my lane at my blind spot during traffic when she wasn’t in the clear and I got into a scratch. Her insurance company asked me to draw a diagram of what happened. I made them a motherfuckin’ animation.
lololol my gif helped my case and the insurance company was impressed. #notliable
so seeing all those emofuri or whatever stuff actually made me really itching to actually do some traditional animation. or at least attempt. So I taught myself how to animate in photoshop and did an animation exercise with a character turning their head.
i haven’t done 2D character animation like this in about 7 years (despite having a degree in animation lololol). somehow this turned out WAAAAAY better than anything i did in college. not sure how that works but ok sure i’ll take it.
