Lola woke up to thunder shaking her apartment building. Since she was younger, she was terrified of thunderstorms. Which made tonight a bad one.
She tried to just go back to sleep, but it wasn’t happening. She was only 5, so getting scared of something that couldn’t really hurt her wasn’t unusual.
Lola made her way into Luke’s room, tugging her teddy bear behind her, with tears rolling down her cheeks, and crawling into his bed beside him. She poked his nose, but he continued to snore. She continued to poke him, but he was an extremely heavy sleeper.
“Silly daddy…” She sniffed, lifting his heavy bicep, and crawling underneath it.“Goodnight daddy.” She whispered before kissing his nose and drifting off to sleep, even with Luke’s snores being louder than the thunder still crashing outside.
Luke had the twins laying on the floor, both of them holding themselves in the upright position. He had read on some parenting website that babies should crawl at around 8 months. And he was determined to have these babies crawling, as they were both 9 months now. Lola was able to hold herself in the crawling position, but every time Luke would ask her to crawl. She would lay back down on her tummy. She was just stubborn, like her mother always was.
Noah however, would sit there and giggle and attempt to crawl, but never really made it.
“C’mon guys! It’s not that hard!” Luke got down on his hands and knees, crawling toward the babies, causing Noah to squeal and giggle, and Lola to giggle as well. “Just like this!” Luke crawled around the room, making Lola erupt in a fit of giggles. “Oh this is funny?” Luke crawled over to her, laying her on her back, blowing raspberries on her stomach. “You want some too monkey?” He turned to Noah, doing the same for him.
“What are you doing?” Ashton asked, looking like he was going to start dying of laughter.
“I- I uh…” Luke froze, “when did I give you a key?!” He yelled in embarrassment. And just then, the babies started to crawl to their uncle Ash, only because he always brought sweet treats for the babies when he came.
“Oh my god, look at them!” Michael gasped, amazed at the two babies crawling before him.
“Who cares? All babies do it?!” Calum groaned, not seeing the big deal. Earning a smack on the back of the head from Ashton.

Luke was at home, waiting for Lola to arrive home from school. Which is pretty much all he could do after work. He had no other life except work, school, and his daughter. When she wasn’t home, he had nothing to do.
“Here.” Lola sniffed and handed Luke a bag of cookies and some other sweets.
“Hey sweetheart, what’s wrong?” He frowned, picking her up and wiping her eyes.
“All the kids were making stuff for their mommies for Valentine’s Day a-and I don’t have a Mommy.” She cried harder, laying her head in Luke’s neck.
“Sunshine…” He sighed and rubbed her back. Not knowing exactly what to say.
“I want Ms.Jones to be my mommy! She’s nice to me!” She hiccuped.
Luke had went on a couple dates with Lola’s teacher, Allison, or Ms.Jones, as Lola called her.
“Lola, I can’t just marry Ms.Jones.” Luke laughed lightly, pushing her bangs off of her forehead.
“I know.” She sniffed and rubbed her nose on her sleeve. “You can be my Mommy until we find a new one.” She kissed his cheek.
Luke just laughed and kissed her forehead. “C’mon baby, I made dinosaur chicken nuggets.”
“Do we have ranch?” She giggled and held his cheeks.
“Wouldn’t be dinner without it!” He smiled and kissed her quickly. “I love you sweetheart.”
Father’s Day was one of Lola’s favorite days. Excluding her birthday and Christmas. She loved it so much because she got to celebrate with her daddy and spend all day with him. Which also meant Luke spoiled her. Not like that was out of the ordinary. She also loved it because it’s the holiday she was able to celebrate without feeling like she wasn’t normal. On Mother’s Day she had to draw Luke on the cards they made at school. On Christmas all the other kids made two calendars for their parents, and she only made one. But today she felt just like everyone else.
Lola woke up bright and early so she could make her daddy a card. Which was pretty much all she could do being only 5 years old.
“Daddy wake up.” Lola grinned as she pulled on the sleeve of his nirvana T-shirt.
“Hi princess!” Luke smiled, sitting up and holding her on his lap. Luke knew this was a special day for Lola. For most fathers it was about them, but for Luke and Lola, Luke made sure she got everything she wanted. Because this was the day she got to feel like all the other kids.
“Are we gonna go to the zoo?” Lola giggled and hugged Luke tightly. On Father’s Day, Dads got in half price. So Luke made sure he got to take Lola then. Cheap entertainment was Luke’s specialty.
“Well didn’t I promise you?” He smiled and kissed her forehead. “Is this for me?” He smiled, taking the pink construction paper from his little girls hand.
“Yeah, that’s me,” she said pointing to the small girl, “that’s you,” she smiled and pointed to the tall man with yellow hair, “and those are all the zoo animals!” She giggled.
“That’s amazing sweetheart. Go get dressed and then we can go to the zoo.” He smiled, setting his daughter on the ground and ruffling her hair.
Luke got a call that he needed to come into Lola and Noah’s kindergarten class. And he had never been so worried. They were attached at the hip, so Luke requested they be in the same class. But, when the two were together, Lola’s brain and Noah’s bronze combined and it was never good for anyone.
“Hi, I’m here to speak with Ms.Jones?” Luke said pulling his lip ring between his teeth.
“Yes, Mr.Hemmings! She’s in the third room to the right.” The secretary smiled.
Luke made his way down the hallway decorated with drawings and paintings done by the kids, and it kinda made him want more kids.
Luke stepped into the classroom, and almost instantly he had one of each twin on both legs.
“Hey guys!” He laughed and ruffled their hair.
“Hi Mr.Hemmings, I’m Ms.Jones.” She smiled and held a hand out. She was probably the same age as Luke maybe younger, but at least a foot shorter than him.
“Luke.” He smiled and shook her hand lightly.
“Daddy we found a new mommy!” Lola squealed and giggled.
“There it is.” Ms.Jones laughed, and handed Luke a piece of pink paper with, “new mommy needed” scribbled and little doodles (all done by Noah probably) all over the paper.
“Oh my god.” Luke sighed and sat at one of the desks. “Ma’am I’m sorry.”
“But daddy Ms.Jones is so nice and she has good snacks! She doesn’t have a boyfriend either!” Noah pouted.
“Luke, it’s really okay. I just felt like I needed to let you know what was going on.” She smiled and ruffled Noah’s hair. “Why don’t you go take your sister and play on the pirate ship set?” She smiled at Noah. Who quickly agreed.
“Their mom left just a few weeks after they were born. They’ve been trying to find a Mom for a while.” Luke laughed quietly and rubbed his face.
“I see this a lot in these kinds of situations. It’s no big deal, honestly.” She lightly rubbed Luke’s shoulder.
The kids were right, she was nice. She had that motherly side to her.
“Daddy daddy! Take Ms.Jones on a date! You already said she was pretty!” Lola giggled.
“I- oh my god.” Luke blushed and laughed and covered his face with his hands.
“I would love to go on a date with you Luke.” She smiled, putting her hands in her jean pockets, which were covered in blue and pink paint.
“Wait, you would?” Luke went wide eyed. Girls never agreed to dates with him. Let alone made the first move.
“Friday night?” She smiled and handed her a card with her number on it.
Noah and Lola would definitely be getting ice cream for this one.
“Daddy we’re gonna be late for ballet!” Lola whined, stomping her feet. Luke was currently working on a group paper and he hadn’t finished his piece yet. The group gave him the smallest bit because they knew he was single and constantly running his little princess around.
“Baby doll I’m trying.” He sighed, trying to finish the last bit up. He was extremely frustrated. Between a 4 year old, and a paper on a subject he didn’t even fully understand.
“No daddy! Now!” She yelled back. Lola was always on time. She always liked being early because she got to watch the adults have class before she did. Luke didn’t really mind either.
“Okay Lola.” He sighed, scooping her up in his arms, “you give me headaches little one..”
“You give me bigger headaches!” She huffed, crossing her arms and laying her head in Luke’s neck.
“What is this?” Luke said loudly, his deep voice echoing through the house.
“Crap.” Lola whispered. She was in for it now. She remembered leaving her extra belly button piercing and the cleaning solution on the bathroom counter.
“Lola Marie Hemmings!” Luke yelled, stomping out of the bathroom.
“Hi.” She whispered innocently.
“Show me your belly button. Now.” Luke said, crossing his arms.
“Dad I just ate and I’m super bloa-..”
“Now Lola Marie!” Luke said louder, glaring at her.
“Fine!” She sighed, standing up and pulling her shirt up, revealing her fresh belly button piercing.
“Take it out.” Luke furrowed his eyebrows.
“What! No daddy! It’ll close up!” She whined.
“Lola…” He said in a warning tone.
“I hate you.” She took the piercing out, slamming it down on the table.
“This’ll make you hate me even more.” He snatched her phone from her hands and put it in his pocket. “Upstairs, now. And don’t think about turning your TV on or I swear to god I’ll be up there to take it as well.”
“God you’re such a prick!” She yelled, stomping upstairs, “I hate you! I’ll never forgive you!”
