lola vs

“I’m just really into mac and cheese, that’s all. My favorite foster mom used to make that in the summer and tomato soup in the winter, and she always told me to help myself to all I wanted. Which was a lot, let me tell you!”
“Your favorite foster mom? How many did you have?”
“Oh, a few. You bounce around a lot in the System. What about you? Chloe said you were rescue-kidnaped by your aunt?”
“That’s right, Aunt Glabe. She was a creche nurse in the secret facility where they kept all the alien hybrids, and she didn’t trust the current General’s predecessor - and quite right, too, as it turned out. I don’t remember all that much, of course, though I expect I remember more than Chloe does. We were on the run, but we barely knew it. She tried to give us the most normal childhood she could.”
“She was the one you got the Deenie Jejune books from, right?”

Dinner is disrupted when Lola’s brother, one of the Drs Curious, gets into a fight with Mickey.

Okay, that’s embarrassing, one of his best friends beating up her brother like that. Probably almost as embarrassing for her, too.
Best to distract her.
