at the end of the day, it's his father. yes, ney's his own person, but he's stuck with his dad for the rest of his life, he can't just say 'fuck you' and fire his dad? i mean he could, but what would that mean for the family? football's just football at the end of the day, but family is family. i don't think it's as black and white as fans/media are making it out to be. has ney fucked up? absolutely. but to demonize him for something that is a lose lose situation for him is not what's needed
Shaming the fans for being unhappy with all this unnecessary, very avoidable chaos is not what’s needed either though. Nobody is trying to demonize him. What purpose does that serve? This isn’t a personal thing against Neymar. Well, I can’t speak for anyone else but that wasn’t my intention (and I believe a vast majority of people who weren’t happy with this whole drama) when I was explaining my opinion.
Okay - although Neymar is also a fully aware adult who is capable of making his own decisions/voicing opinions about his future - from what we know, his father seemingly controls most of what goes on when it comes to negotiations and etc. And fine, family is family and nobody can change that. But as fans and as a club, are we just supposed to go with it and adjust accordingly every time the entourage isn’t happy and wants more? Why are we here celebrating the fact that Neymar is apparently staying like it’s a big win when there was no reason for this whole thing to even happen in the first place? Why - when he scored yesterday - were some saying that was him “silencing” the fans (of his own club?) who were unhappy about having to go through this drama that could have all been avoided with him not letting it become what it did through silence and cryptic posts? I can’t understand how wanting more respect for the club than what was given over the past few weeks is demonizing/hating/being a fake fan.
Sure, there’s a grey area and we don’t know everything that goes on behind closed doors - but whether it’s his father in control or not, in my opinion, everything I said before still stands.
If more money is the goal and the Neymar entourage wants to continuously pressure the club into renegotiating a new contract every year and allow a media parade to happen until it does, that’s a problem in my opinion. This isn’t said to demonize Neymar, but those kind of tactics are not in the best interest of the team.
Similarly, if the Neymar entourage feels Neymar isn’t prioritized enough at Barça and/or the Neymar entourage wants him to be the center of a different project, he should go. I don’t say this with any disrespect toward him nor do I have any desire to see him go. Like I said before, we all know how much talent Ney has and that he has even greater potential looking forward. We can all recognize the history he has made here (himself and with us as a team) and nobody can deny the impact he has on our team and his part within the best trio in the world. But him and his entourage should not have to be “convinced” by teammates, board members, or whoever to keep Neymar at Barça.
Nobody is bigger than the club.
