lois never noticed that

“Who are you?”

“Lois. Lois Lane.”

I👏LOVE 👏THIS👏ENTRANCE👏
Chloe’s storyline aside. They could have taken this moment and made it into something much more anti climactic. She could have shown up at the school one day and had Chloe go “oh yeah this is my cousin Lois Lane” and have everyone nod with polite disinterest.

Nope. This is Lois Lane we are talking about. She shows up at the beginning of the season, you have no idea who she is (I mean you do because this was years ago but she hasn’t been officially introduced). And she finds naked, no memory, struck by lightening Clark Kent. There’s just this random young woman out in the middle of no where, and JUST as she’s about to “save” superman and get him to the hospital. BOOM.

“Who are you?”

“Lois. Lois Lane.”

have you ever written a fic where clark tells lois? what's your favorite version of the reveal, canon or fanon?

I haven’t! Honestly I like it best if it’s an accident, if he keeps meaning to tell her and meaning to tell her but then – for instance – something happens where he has to save her in a way that makes it obvious that he’s Superman. Because I like the idea that he really waffles trying to find ‘the right moment’, but there’s really never a right moment to reveal to someone that you’ve been lying to them, and the longer you do it the harder it is to tell the truth. And Superman is very brave and very strong and very kind and all these other things, but he would be so devastated if Lois either rejected him or else accepted him in a manner he found unacceptable. You know? Then again I just really like that whole trope. And she’s mad and he knows she’s mad and understands and apologizes and then he mopes a lot but tries not to look like he’s moping, but Lois forgives him because she’s honestly mostly mad at herself for never noticing. Because of course if you already know that Clark Kent is Superman, it seems so. freaking. obvious. HOW COULD SHE NOT HAVE KNOWN.

But I think the most important thing with the reveal, to me, is that Clark’s relationship with Lois really hits a wall until he tells her. Like… even after they kind of start dating, he will not have sex with her when she doesn’t know he’s Superman, because knowing that might impact whether or not she even wants to, which would make it (as far as he is concerned) a breach of consent. Because Clark Kent… is legitimately a nice guy. And legitimately nice guys don’t try to advance relationships built on what is essentially a foundation of lies. I mean, yes, he is really Clark Kent and the whole point is that he has always wanted her to know the real him, but he’s spent years lying to her as Superman. Literally actively trying to deceive her. So that would be really uncool and he does not do the uncool thing. I know there are versions where he waits until after they’re married, even, and that is just HORRIFYING there is no way Martha would allow her son to get away with that he is going to get SUCH a lecture.
