Hanyaan's Cosplay Makeup Kit List

One of my favorite things in cosplay is makeup. Makeup can really help make or break your costume, and I think that everybody who cosplays should wear some, regardless of gender. (Unless you’re under a mask, but that’s a different story.) This is a guide to what’s in my personal kit. Maybe some of this might work for you and maybe some of it wouldn’t, but this is the stuff I don’t want to be without.

I recently got a huge Sephora gift card, and since I usually buy drugstore products, I was wondering if you had any recommendations for full coverage powder foundations (something like MAC's Studio Fix Powder Foundation) sold at Sephora! Thank you so much, I love reading your advice and input!! Thank you for what you do!! <3

Hi there!  Firstly, thank you so much!  It’s because of sweet people like you that I have the motivation to log on here as much as I do <3  You’re the best!

Welcome to the wonderful world of Sephora!  I hope you’re prepared to be hooked… It’s hard to stop shopping there once you’ve started.  Since you didn’t tell me your skin type, I’ll list a few of my favorite full coverage powders for every type!

1.  BareMinerals Ready Foundation - This is a mineral powder in a compact.  The coverage on this is insane in my opinion!  I also like the finish, which isn’t dry looking the way many powders can be.  This is a great powder if your skin leans on the drier side.

2. Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo Powder Foundation - Kat Von D is my girl, and in my eyes her products can do no wrong!  This is a long wear powder that is very mattifying and great for beauties with oilier skin.  The coverage of this powder is great, and is one that I use on a regular basis!

3.  Tarte Amazonian Clay Powder Foundation - Loved by beauty gurus, this is a loose powder that, thanks to the packaging, isn’t messy at all.  Tarte is a more natural brand, and the amazonian clay in here (and lots of their other products) helps give great, long wearing coverage and will control oil throughout the day.  This also has a nice satiny finsh that isn’t too dry.

4.  Make Up For Ever Pro Finish Powder - This is a great multipurpose powder foundation that can give you really strong coverage as a foundation but is still natural looking enough to be used as a finishing powder.  It can even be used with a wet brush for maximum coverage (something I didn’t know until I just looked at the website today… totally cool!  You learn something new every day!)

5.  CoverFx Pressed Mineral Powder Foundation - Cover Fx is the perfect foundation brand for anyone with problematic or sensitive skin.  This brand doesn’t contain any irritating products, and has totally customizable coverage (sheer to full depending on how you apply it!)  CoverFx products are actually “designed” by one of the original MAC product formulators… he just decided to take all of the nasty chemicals out of the powder and leave you with the great finish MAC always has!

Hopefully I listed at least one powder that peaked your interest!  My best recommendation would be to go into a Sephora store and ask to have a Color IQ done.  The Color IQ is a device that will scientifically match your skin tone to every foundation that Sephora carries (it’s awesome and so handy!)

Happy shopping, and happy holidays!  Much love!

What a good full coverage foundation with no transfer?

You want a foundation that dries to a more matte, satin finish because anything that still looks “dewy” or doesnt completely dry/set will transfer a lot more easily.

I’d recommend using a foundation with a matte finish and not applying any powder over top. Powder is usually the first thing to transfer onto clothes and such because it’s just sitting on the skin instead of sticking to the skin like foundation. If you do want to use a setting powder use very little or use a translucent powder would be best because it’s colorless!

Try foundations like

  • Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation
  • Covergirl 3 in 1 Outlast Foundation
  • Rimmel Stay Matte Mousse Foundation
  • Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo Foundation
  • Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation

All these foundations dry to a matte/velvet finish and have about a medium to full coverage :)

hi! i have a formal coming up and im doing my own makeup for it, i was just wondering if you could recommend a really good primer and foundation that will last all night :) I have combination skin, so am quite oily on my t-zone and especially seeing as the formal is in the middle of summer i don't want my foundation sliding off for photos!! thank you :~)))

Hello :)

Try foundations like

  • Estee Lauder Double Wear (medium to full coverage)
  • Covergirl 3 in 1 Outlast (medium coverage)
  • Maybelline Superstay Foundation (lightweight/runny with medium coverage)
  • Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation (medium to full coverage)
  • Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo Foundation (very full coverage)
  • Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation (medium coverage)

Try primers like

  • Rimmel Stay Matte Primer
  • Murad Oil Control Mattifer
  • Hourglass Mineral Viel Primer
  • Smashbox Photofinish Light

All of these products are very long wearing and topped with a light layer of powder you should be good to go! Have fun at formal! Xo
