local favorite

the thing you need to realize about localization is that japanese and english are such vastly different languages that a straight translation is always going to be worse than the original script. nuance is going to be lost and, if you give a shit about your job, you should fill the gaps left with equivalent nuance in english. take ff6, my personal favorite localization of all time: in the original japanese cefca was memorable primarily for his manic, childish speaking style - but since english speaking styles arent nearly as expressive, woolsey adapted that by making the localized english kefka much more prone to making outright jokes. cefca/kefka is beloved in both regions as a result - hell, hes even more popular here

Working With Spirits for Beginners

Before starting:

Protection!  Be it sigils or wards or poppet decoys or crystals or any of the like, make sure you have some sort of protection from mal intent.

Ask yourself, where am I wanting this path to take me?  Are you wanting to have spirit teachers and learn new things? Are you wanting to be a medium?  Are you wanting to gain some friends?  Are you wanting to connect to different cultures and histories?  These kinds of questions will help you decide where to start and where to go from there!

Finding spirits:

One thing that you can research is having a spirit companion!  There are several blogs that I can’t think of off the top of my head that do personal conjurings, and other basically adoption centers!  If you do that, I would look for more beginner type spirits or just the ones that call out to you!

If you don’t want a companion and are looking for something a little less permanent, I would look around you for something familiar.  Plants around you, your local cemetery, your favorite hike, seashells, crystals, bones, or any of that that you may have.  Most things have some spirit attached to them, including man-made objects, although those tend to be small colonies speaking through a representative (I can make a post on this later if you want).

Starting Points:

There are two main starting points from here.  Sensing the spirits, and communication.  You can decide to focus on one, or even both!  I recommend starting with one at a time tho.

Sensing:

start reaching out, trying to find something.  It’s different for everyone, and it’s not something that you can feel and say, this is it.  You have to learn to trust yourself.  And even if you don’t, fake it ‘til you make it!  For me, feeling a spirit’s presence is subtle, but for others, it can be a really jarring experience.

Communication:

You can use tarot, telepathy, pendulum, ouija boards, oracle, images, runes, or anything similar!   If using telepathy, ask yourself the question, ‘was that reply me talking?’ and if your answer is immediately yes, then it was you.  But if you have a moment of doubt, believe that it was your spirit!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me!  I’ll do my best to answer.

An Acceptance of Love Spell

A Way to Accept Love From Those in Your Life

Ingredients:

  • 1 white candle (healing, unity, purity)
  • 1 red candle (love, relationships)
  • Matches/lighter
  • Rose quartz in any form
  • A piece of chocolate or your favorite Valentines’ candy
  • A decorated or blank piece of paper
  • A pen or pencil

All ingredients can be substituted out as you see fit

Directions:

  1. Light your candles and create a warm and loving atmosphere around you.
  2. Gently take your rose quartz in your hands and charge it with the warmth from your hands, thinking of the reason why you are doing this spell.
  3. Set your rose quartz aside next to your candles so that you are able to glance over at it throughout the rest of the spell.
  4. Grab your chocolate or candy and as you eat it, begin thinking of people who love and support you. It can be your mom, uncle, friends, a spouse, etc.
  5. Begin writing those names down along with some of their contact information. Try to leave off people that love you but cause you pain or upset you. You’ll feel better knowing that the people on your list on ones you can go to whenever you’re in need or just want someone to talk to and not receive a negative/unwanted response.
  6. Consider reaching out to at least one of the listed people while you wait for the candles burn down or within the first few days after doing this spell.
  7. Keep your charged rose quartz nearby whenever you feel alone and continue contacting your loved ones/supports.

My Notes on what I did:
I used a piece of tumbled rose quartz that I had from rock collection as I kid. I choose this piece because my collection of rocks was started with my grandma who is one of my listed loved ones. I like to look back on that time as one of the happier times I’ve had as a kid and I believe that the positive energy from that experience remains embedded in the stone.

I also decided to eat some chocolate covered Oreos from my favorite local chocolatier, Sarris Candies. I have always loved receiving their chocolate as presents even as a kid. I love the positive energy that seems to emanate from their store whenever I get to visit and I always feel a trace of that joy and love whenever I purchase and/or see their chocolate elsewhe re.

I also played a 1 hour jazz noir playlist that I found on youtube so that I had background noise. I personally can’t sit in silence for too long because it makes me more anxious then I already am. If you’re comfortable sitting in silence, go ahead and do so and know that I applaud your ability.

As part of my personal goals, I know that I need to open myself and my heart more to my loved ones and accept the love and support that they already give. I know that this will take time and effort on my part so that I am able to leave behind my previous self-destructive behaviors. I hope this spell will allow my wounded self heal and be more open with my family for my sake and theirs. Included below is the list of my loved ones with their contact information blocked out for safety reasons. I painted the paper my favorite shade of blue and then decorated it with hearts and stuff since Valentine’s Day is coming up and the purpose of the spell has to do with love. This step is completely option but I wanted to put mine by bed so I have a reminder whenever I feel sad.

I hope that you found something that you could also use to help you heal from whatever occurred in your life and I wish you all the love in the world. Feel free to adjust this to your magickal and personal needs. Do not be afraid to reach out if you feel you are alone or have any questions. ❤️

IN NO WAY, SHAPE OR FORM IS MAGICK OR WITCHCRAFT A REPLACEMENT FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT, MEDICATION(S), OR THERAPY. MAKE SURE THAT YOUR SUPPORT SYSTEM OR THERAPIST KNOWS THAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO THIS IN CASE SOMETHING GOES WRONG.

DEPART & ACT

Coming in 2017.

“Queens County Assistant District Attorney Rodney McKay is abrasive, burnt-out, and has long ago dropped any pretenses of wanting anything more than to put the scum of the earth behind bars.  Detective John Sheppard of the Brooklyn 83 is not too far behind, branded a slacker-cop who chases haphazardly after thugs and murders in a never-ending stream of violence and crime.  The two men know of each other through reputation and the rare cross-borough cases that have come their way, but find themselves too busy cleaning up their respective counties to look much closer.

That all changes when the elusive Augustus Kolya and The Gen Family appear to slip up on cross county charges and land McKay and Sheppard working on the same case from two different angles, desperate to take down the corrupt organization and end a decade of mob rule in the outer boroughs.  But nothing is ever as easy (or as safe) as it looks and when you start to mess with organized crime, you’re bound to be hurt.

Will the two jaded public servants be able to get along (or get together) long enough to formulate a solid case against vast public corruption and bring justice to the long-standing mob?  And will the conniving Chief Kolya let them both get out of this case with their lives?”

Preview of my entry for the @miracuclasszine! I might be tardy, but I’m good with make up homework, I hope. :>

I did cut outs of “PREVIEW” written across this, so if you want to see the pretty image, please buy the zine on October 29th!

You were walking down the street from work one day, so engrossed in texting your friend back that you didn’t even notice the biker hurling down the sidewalk in front of you. By chance, you look up and see the cycle coming at you full speed, and you’re stuck like a deer in headlights, until you feel a strong arm wrap around your waist and another grab onto your arm that pulls you out of the trajectory of the bike, and right into this stranger’s embrace.

“Ooh shit!” You gasp as you slam into his firm chest. You look up at the face of the stranger, and you recognize him immediately. His eyes are much warmer in person, and his smile really could cure cancer.

“Are you okay?” He looks down, with genuine concern written all over his face. You’re very shaken up, but you’re still very hyper-aware of his hand placement on your lower back.

     { spencer reid x reader // wc: 862 }
Spencer Reid is a man of science. And, as a man of science, he doesn’t believe in coincidences. There’s a logical reason why he keeps bumping into you. And there’s definitely a reason why his heart flutters each time.

(one)     somebody in the coffee shop
that you walk right by everyday

There’s this quiet little coffee shop tucked in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city that not a lot of people know about. But it’s become a fan favorite for locals, what with the reasonably priced coffee and the long and convenient hours.

And, as such, it’s become a holy grail for one such Spencer Reid.

He quickly became a regular patron, often coming in twice in the same day: early at the crack of dawn, wearily clutching his phone after a text from Penelope signaled him to come in, and near midnight, with a stack of case files he needs to review tucked under his arm. On rare occasions, he stops by with a book and sit there until he’s finished (about a half an hour at most, to the astonishment of the baristas).

He’s come in so often, in fact, that most of the baristas have come to fondly recognize his messy mop of hair and would ring up his order (a large black coffee with a splash of creamer and a large handful of sugar packets on the side) before he even reaches the counter.

This never fails to make Spencer smile, a small sheepish grin that brightens the barista’s day. He’s easily become everyone’s favorite customer, hands down.

A few of the flowers we saw walking our favorite local trail.

snaeksthetic  asked:

are you ever just thankful for honest pet stores? i was in my favorite local reptile store and heard a guy talking to and employee about buying a tegu. the employee asked what other reptile experience the kid had and he said "i mean i had a crested gecko once" the employee promptly suggested a beardie instead

YES. I have two in particular I really like. Well, one and then part of one. Specifically one employee, Erik the Fish Guy.

At the Petsmart near me, there’s a guy in the fish department called Erik. Erik is a fish guru. If you want to overstock your tank? Erik won’t let you. He’ll talk you into something just as pretty but better for the space. If you ask him for his recommendations, he’ll give them- and they’re really good. He actually lived in Thailand for several years and he gave me a lot of really good advice for setting up my betta tank- my twenty gallon betta tank. I’ve never heard or seen him recommend ANY tanks smaller than the 2.5 gallon kits- I’ve been going there for years and I’ve never once seen the dude say a bowl is ok for a betta.

The other place here in town I truly love is Curious Creatures. They take AMAZING care of their animals- they’re a reptile specialty shop- and I’m so thankful for the example they set.

I also have to give a shout out to Seven Seas Pet Store in my hometown. They’ve always been honest about reptiles, and the space they give the ones they’re selling is actually really great. They’re a little mom and pop store that’s been there for… gosh, probably close to 30 years now, and while we’ve had chains come and go, they’ve stayed open in part because of the excellent care they provide.

8 Ways to Make Your Day Better

1) Clean Up

I know the last thing we want to do on a bad day is clean, but the next time you’re feeling in a bit of a rut try tidying up. A messy environment creates more stress so cleaning up your area will help to make your environment a wee bit better.

2) Have a snack Cranky?

Have something to eat. You don’t need to go out and spend a fortune, but grab something small like an apple or some hummus and crackers. You might just be moody because of low blood sugar.

3) Take a walk Go for a breather!

Clear your mind! Whatever is bothering you is bound to boil over when you’re out in the fresh air. Take a tour around your neighborhood and treat yourself to the sites like you would a tourist. Take the time to admire your favorite local places.

4) Smell a lemon

Both lemon and lavender have shown to reduce anxiety in humans. There’s just something about these scents that calm us down and help clear out our minds. Next time try slicing up fresh lemon and putting it into your water. Or, grab a handful of lavender and hang it up to dry in the kitchen.

5) Turn up the music If you’re at home, turn up the stereo.

Playing loud music has been shown to alleviate stress in some adults. Better yet, sing along! Singing releases endorphins that make you feel good from the inside out.

6) Exercise

Exercising is probably the best thing you can possibly do if you’re feeling down in the dumps. A good workout will have you breathing better, feeling stronger, and standing up taller. There are so many health benefits to regular exercise, not to mention how great your body will look! In addition to all the physical benefits, exercising releases powerful endorphins into your body that make you feel fantastic.

7) Meditate Breathe in, breathe out.

Meditating for only 10 minutes or so a day can have amazing effects on your mental state. Take some time alone with your thought, giving yourself some much needed time to process the day’s events. Regulated breathing will also calm the mind and body.

8) Smile

You’d be surprised at how many good things will happen to you if you just smile. Try looking a stranger in the eyes and giving them a little grin on your morning commute. You’re brightening someone else’s day, so you’re bound to get good karma in return.
