Reader comforts Draco through the death eater process and supports him even though against reader’s beliefs.

You walked through the hall towards your next class; alchemy. It just so happened that you had this class with Slytherin Prince Draco Malfoy. He always teased you for being a Hufflepuff. He called you “weak”, “innocent”, even “puffball

Nonetheless, you strode into the classroom, and, as luck would have it, the only empty seat was next to Malfoy. As you plopped your books down on the desk and took the seat next to him, he smirked at you and chuckled.

“Not so happy with the seating arrangements, are we puffball?” Draco taunted. You ignored him and focused on what the professor was saying. This only fueled him to go on, though. All through class, he teased you until your cheeks flushed red, your fist clenched around your quill, and you bit your bottom lip. “You know,” he chuckled. “you really look adorable when you’re frustrated.”

“Excuse me?” you asked. You were shocked. What did he mean by that?

Draco just let out a small huff of amusement before you were dismissed to the Great Hall for lunch. Does he like me? You asked yourself. Oh, shut up. It was stupid for you to think that. Why did it matter? You hated him, and he despised you in return. End of story.

So why, then, did it make your heart flutter to hear those words?

As the next two weeks went on, Draco kept up his antics, frustrating you to your limit, then calling you “cute”, “sweet”, or “adorable” just before he made his getaway.

One day, you’d had enough.

Right as class ended for the day, you decided to follow Draco to get him alone. As soon as you were dismissed, Draco leaped out of his chair and walked out of the room. You waited a few moments before following him out into the corridor.

You searched the crowd until you found his white-blonde head bobbing up and down and moved towards him. He rounded a corner and picked up the pace. You kept a healthy distance away from him but were close enough to see where he was going. Soon, he entered the boys’ bathroom. As soon as he was out of sight, you raced to the door to wait for him outside.

Minutes passed. You waited and waited until… you thought you heard something.

Sniffles. A sob.

“Draco?” you called. When there was no response, you tried again. “Draco? Are you okay?”

A few moments passed. Suddenly a very red, very flustered Draco burst out of the door.

“What are you doing hanging around the boys’ bathroom, y/n?” He asked coldly.

“I,-um,…” You stuttered. “I wanted to make sure you were okay.”

“Why do you care?” There was a look of anger and confusion on his face. You took his hand in yours and looked up into his eyes. He looked stunned.

“Because,” you replied, “Whether you think I do or not, I care about you.” It felt so good to get that off your chest. Now the only fear you had was of him rejecting you.

“Why?” He asked again. “Why should someone like you care about someone like me? You don’t even know me.” He tried to pull himself out of your grasp, but you held held your ground.

“That may be true, but no matter how annoying you may be at times, I know your’e not a bad person.”

This time he looked at you with fear and sadness in his eyes. “How can you possibly know that?” He hissed.

This was something you had asked yourself numerous times. But, in the end, you knew he couldn’t be all bad. You didn’t know what, but something kept you from going to that extent.

“I…” you started. You took a deep breath and looked him in the eyes. “I look at you Draco, and I see what everyone sees; your smirk, your confidence, your teasing laugh… but I also see compassion, love, fear, and that’s what makes you human.”

He looked at you for a moment, in complete shock of what you just said. Then, he yanked his hand from your grip and said, “Have you seen this?”

He grabbed the hem of his left shirt sleeve and pulled it from his forearm. There, in the midst of his pale white skin, was the dark mark.

You gasped and stared at him in fear. You tore your eyes from his arm and looked at his face, which was contorted with anger, fear, and most of all, sadness. “Do you think I’m still human now?” He demanded. You thought over the question carefully. All your life you had learned that death eaters were the most evil, vile, loathsome creatures in the world. You heard that Draco’s father was one such beast. But how could a boy like Draco, one who acted so confident, so sure, be one?

You closed your gaping mouth and looked at him with all the confidence you could muster. “Yes,” you replied. “Yes I do.” He looked at you with the most disturbed face you had ever seen. “Because while you may have that mark, you don’t have to live by it. No matter how hard it may seem or how impossible, you have control over your own life.

Suddenly, you felt Draco’s soft, pink lips meet yours. You tensed up, not sure how to feel about it, but you eventually relaxed and kissed him back. After a few moments, he pulled back.

“Y/n, you’re the first person to ever say that to me.” He looked at you with his grey-blue eyes and took a deep breath. “Y/n, I’m so sorry for teasing you. Really, I am. I just…. I like you, okay? I care about you so much, but with this mark, I… I didn’t want too get close to you. I didn’t want you to get hurt…” You pressed your forehead to his and he let out a sigh. You pulled back just enough to see his whole face.

“It’s okay, Draco. I like you, too.” He smiled. “Just know that I’ll always be here for you when you need me.” He took your hand and kissed your knuckles. “You don’t have to worry about me getting hurt. I’ll be here through it all to help you.”

With that, you kissed him on his lips. He kissed you back, hard, and you wrapped your arms around his neck while he snaked his around your waist. After a minute or two, you pulled away.

“Now, let’s go get some lunch, hmm? I’m starving.” He chuckled and took your hand in his.

“Whatever you say, puffball.”

And this time, you didn’t even mind.
