Craig Mather. I love him. Seriously. I also saw him twice in the West End and I fell in love with his Marius instantly. His voice is perfect. His face is perfect. His acting is perfect. You will never make me like another Marius more than his. I love the character and I love the actor.
There are so many parts that make me sad. Gavroche’s death especially, and the Finale. But the worst part for me is Fantine’s line “If there’s a God above, he’d let me die instead”. It makes me cry every. time.
I have to say Liam Tamne. I saw him twice in London, and the last time, he made me laugh so much trying to get comfortable on the barricade (I could see him from the Upper Circle). I think he has a powerful voice which suits perfectly to the character of Enjolras. At least, I feel like I want to join and fight with them. Ramin Karimloo was also very good in the 25th Anniversary, and I absolutely CANNOT wait to see (my baby) Aaron Tveit in the movie. Also, I would have loved to see Scott Garnham as Enjolras, but I never got to. As for now, Liam is my favourite Enjolras.
I have a complete girl crush on Samantha Barks. I love her Eponine. I’ve never seen her live, but she is absolutely perfect in the 25th Anniversary and I cannot wait to see her in the movie, she’s going to be brilliant. I love her voice and she is so darn pretty. Favorite Eponine hands down.
17. Who is your favourite character from the musical?
Eponine. I know I sound like every other girl that just “feels how Eponine does when she’s in love with Marius and he doesn’t love her back” but it’s true, kind of. I really get how she feels towards Marius, but I also love her passion and her strength. She went through so much in her life, but she’s still there, ready to fight with the boys.
Norm Lewis. He is perfect in the 25th Anniversary. I wanted to see Hadley Fraser in April, but it was the understudy (I cannot remember his name), who was really really good as well. I find it interesting to have a black Javert, and I love what Norm Lewis brings to the character.
22. Which character can you relate to in the book or musical and why?
Eponine. I was in love with a boy for about 4 years and “he never saw me there”. No worse, he was really misleading, he makes me think of Jasper in ‘The Holiday’ (but he is more gorgeous). I know what it feels like to be rejected and not loved by someone you deeply care about. I also like to think that I am as strong and passionate in my beliefs as Eponine is about what she thinks. She is such a strong character, but hides so much behind her tough facade. I am pretty much the same way.
I don’t really have a favourite Mme Thénardier, but I do love Cameron Blakely as M. Thénardier. I know the musical by heart, and no lyric is a mystery to me. But when I went to see Les Mis in London last April, Cameron Blakely made me burst out laughing when he sang “In the… absence of a victim… dear inspector… may I go?”. As someone else so rightly put it, he is the king of this part.
Craig Mather as Marius, Lisa-Anne Wood as Cosette, Samantha Barks as Eponine, Caroline Sheen as Fantine, Alfie Boe as Valjean, Liam Tamne as Enjolras, Cameron Blakely as Thénardier, Norm Lewis as Javert and Scott Garnham, Fra Fee, James Charlton and Sarah O'Connor in the Ensemble. I do not care about the other parts.
Definitely the 2011-2012 London West End cast. I saw them twice and I completely fell in love. Although I do not really like Alexia Khadime’s Eponine, I just love Craig Mather’s Marius, Lisa-Anne Wood’s Eponine, Caroline Sheen’s Fantine and Liam Tamne’s Enjolras. And I really love all the members of the Ensemble, especially Scott Garnham and Fra Fee. I just fell in love with these people and they will forever have a huge place in my heart.
Caroline Sheen. I just really like her. I’ve seen her twice live in London and she is great. She was perfect last April and made me burst out crying when she sang “If there’s a God above, he’d let me die instead”.
