I’ve seen many reasons of why or why not Sheith is p3dophilia and the whole age discourse back and forth because of this.
But I haven’t seen anybody bring this up yet.
The Fact Keith is an Orphan.
Therefore he’s obviously been in Foster Care and has a Social Worker. But since he was enrolled in the Garrison, a boarding school, he was able to stay there with check ups with his Social Worker and such.
When Keith was expelled from the Garrison, and since, in the Anti’s eyes’, Keith’s a minor, he would’ve been taken into the government’s custody and put back into the foster care system.
But he didn’t. He was able to roam the dessert and live in an abandoned shack for a year.
This wouldn’t of been possible if Keith was 16 or 17. The only way he would’ve been able to be free on his own if he was 18+, making him a legal adult.
A successful novel should erase the boundary-line between writer and reader, so they can unite.
When that happens, the novel becomes a part of life – the main course, not the dessert.
A successful novel should interrupt the reader’s life, make him or her miss appointments, skip meals, forget to walk the dog.
In the best novels, the writer’s imagination becomes the reader’s reality. It glows, incandescent and furious.
