live looping

#album of the day

Okay, so this happened yesterday. If there’s anyone that I would rush for an autograph, it’s this guy. I feel like he just signed my blog and wow that’s freaking nuts. Pardon me while I geek out for a short forever.

dubfx is a crazy awesome live-looper and street performer from Australia. The music he makes with just his voice is the freaking best and the lyrics to his songs are equally fantastic. He’s also a huge huge huge inspiration for me ever since I began practicing using my own loop station looking to perform with it in the future.

If you haven’t seen his super awesome stuff on YouTube somehow, go and watch that shit right now. Like, all of it. Plus he recently released a new album and is goin on a US tour like next week. This guy is nuts.

Dude, Dub, if you’re reading this, I just wanna say you rock and I’ve been jamming to your music for the past couple of days straight ever since I first saw one of those vids. Kill it with that tour (which is obviously gonna happen anyway duh), and thanks for the follow. That’s crazy.

this guy is immensely talented, i don’t know why i haven’t heard of him until today.

Rocky Leon (Live Looping) - This Side of You

Here’s a practice performance of the last movement of …la conscience engloutie, my senior project at St. Mary’s. The final product will be wayy different -no looping, I’ll have actual performers. The instruments and speakers will also surround the audience and a film will be the center of attention rather than an awkward me.

Here’s a little cover I did of Tycho’s “Daydream”. It was fun.

Every second of this is gold.

“Having to pay the bills but not willing to give up the need to be creative will push you harder than you can ever imagine.” - Kawehi

After her first year of college in 2002, Kawehi moved to California as a signed artist in a newly formed superband. Two months in she quit and moved back home. Unable to get any attention with her music going the traditional route and still tied to her contract, Kawehi took a 5 year break from music.

Kawehi then switched it up and with the support of her husband, Paul, created her own path in the music world, successfully supporting her career through crowdfunding on Kickstarter. She recently raised over $9,000 to fund her US tour. While growing her fan base Kawehi’s also grown her musical ability as she now has incorporated looping and beatboxing into her work.

You’ll hear from a musician who has figured out how to be a successfully funded independent artist on how she made it happen and that those fears that you have, they never go away…so what are you gonna do?

THIS is why I think Kimbra is a complete and utter bad ass. Extremely Underrated.
