but you know whats funny? We could’ve seen that one coming. From miles away, actually. To be precise, one year ago. Because you know who else is a mysterious brother? Who is also a new character? Who is also the son of Grisha Jaeger? Who is also a titan shifter?
Yes, I am once again talking about these shitty movies, but before anyone gets mad, hear me out.
In the 2nd movie, it is revealed in the opening scene that Eren received his titan powers as an infant via injection from his father. During the dialogue between Carla and Grisha, it is revealed that they had another, older child, who had already received the injection. The place is then raided by the government (wearing clothes and using guns looking very similar to the last page of the new chapter) and the parents are presumably killed.
In the next scene, as “movie Hannes” is dying, he tries to tell Eren about his older brother (it should be noted that Eren is not aware of his existence), but is unable to finish is talk.
Now, the movie is so inaccurate already that a sudden jaeger-bro appearing outta nowhere isnt really surprising anymore. However, beyond these two scenes, this plot point (which is heavely pushed in the first 10 minutes of the movie) is entirely forgotten. Their blood relations are never addressed or acknowledged. We never get the “ackertalk” (or in this case, the “jaegertalk”). The plot point is developed but then completely dropped. This leads me to believe that the only reason Shikishima ended up being Erens brother was to hint at this future development. Many plot points from the shiganshina arc were actually shown in the movie, long b4 they were ever drawn by Isayama. So this isn’t anything unusual really. I’m just mad as hell that these awful flicks spoiled so much already, and from the looks of it, they aren’t done yet…
(really weird ass post credit scene that made no sense back then)

speaking as a hardcore fan, i honestly can’t believe I endured the 1 hr 30 minute horror that is the SNK live action movie. here are several reasons why i hate it so much:
1. mikasa was a weakling.
2. eren was always angry, in a not-sincere, non-justifiable way.
3. what is up with mikasa and that weird captain?
4. what is up with mikasa and that weird captain eating apples?
5. armin had parents. parents who were alive.
6. too long and too many “staring at titans” moments
7. the recruits had no idea how to use the 3dmg. fuck that is the first thing they teach you.
8. hanji was a klutz. i know she’s not actually named hanji but c’mon. (ugh i was duped)
9. unnecessary sex scenes (YES, SEX SCENES)
10. they reduced the entire story behind the red scarf moment into a fucking weak-ass mikasa sneeze bout
11. why did they have trucks? and helicopters?
12. no levi, no erwin, no annie, no ymir, no krista
13. annoying and angry and very smol jean. seriously, eren and jean had more screen time together than eren and mikasa.
14. the actors were old..and strangely not sin-inspiring.
15. too many drunk-walking eren (usually after witnessing a titan eating a human)
i watched the whole thing knowing full well that manga / anime / books aren’t easy to transform into live action movies. so i had braced myself for some deviation from the story, for the sake of compressing everything in a 2 hour format. and i understand that the SNK movie guys did a lot of work on this, and i appreciate the effort. i was told that non-canon fans actually enjoyed the movie, so…kudos? i guess?
BUT MY GOD. THIS MOVIE FELT LIKE VERY BAD FAN-MADE MOVIE FROM A VERY BAD FANFIC. it bore almost no semblance to the SNK cannon that i knew and loved. it was, at best, a mediocre movie, and SNK fans do not deserve that.
(and yet another) BUT, in the interest of fairness, I tried to find some good things in this.
luckily…there are three:
1. titan eren in the movie looked exactly like titan eren in the manga / anime, and that’s AMAZING
2. the “armin-being-swallowed-by-a-titan-and-eren-pulling-him-out” scene was INCREDIBLE
So, I saw some people trying to discredit the kiss by claiming that it was forced on Mikasa. I’m quite sensitive about things like that so I did my best to analyze the context-less half-second we got.
Frame by frame, we’ve got Shikishima with his hand on Mikasa’s nape. The head tilt on both sides. They’re leaning ever closer and Mikasa’s eyes start to close. At the moment their lips touch, she closes her eyes completely.
Now, I know that the anecdotal evidence isn’t worth much but that one time a guy tried to kiss me without my consent, my eyes got fucking wide in surprise and I pushed him away the moment he started leaning in. Actually, in every scene from various shows/movies where an unwanted kiss happened, the kissed party usually had their eyes wide open. I don’t see that happening in here. All in all, that kiss looks pretty consensual to me.
You know what that moment actually reminds me of? A goodbye kiss. Like he is going to go away - a different mission than her or something - and this is their parting. You know, I kind of like that. So until proven otherwise, I’m going to believe that Shikishima and Mikasa are in an actual relationship in the movie and this is their routine goodbye before assignments. Please, let this be true.
