little-dewdrop

humans are so cute, when we say goodbye we put our arms around each other and to show we love someone we bring them flowers. we say hello by holding each other’s hand, and sometimes tiny little dewdrops form in our eyes. for pleasure we listen to arrangements of sounds, press our lips together, smoke dried leaves, get drunk off of old fruit. we’re all just little animals, falling in love and having breakfast beneath billions of stars

with these new experiential means the town had a whole different feel to Lucy. everything hummed with tendrils of chocolate and tasted of theremin shaded in static and stardust. but citrus twanged and pinched against her heart as she walked about at night. so finally one night she decided to walk to the nearer edge of town, and out into the desert, in its radiant clarinetting purr and absolute shortbreaded and celloed darkness. the stars above sighed dewdrops and little cosmic dove-songs, and Lucy let herself hum along with them.

then their song shifted.

she wasn’t alone with the desert.

[Hello?] she hummed softly. very slowly she put her fingers to the handle of her obsidian knife. better be safe.

[Is… someone there?]
