Hey, I was wondering if you'd know about any lesbian books that feature a black lead? I've been trying to find some but I keep coming up short.

For sure! Some of my favourites are:

Artist Statement: “In publishing, the word ‘anthology’ is usually used for a collection of literary works like poems, short stories, songs, etc…I created a collection of short animated images, each of them could be a piece of thinking, a scene of a dream, an imagination from a poet or a nonsense thought. I keep doing these small pieces when I have some time, here are the first 10 images and therefore I edited it as Volume 1.”

you know they had fun while alec was moving in

inspired by @kathrynduske and a little thing she wrote about alec moving in. thank you! also the entire shakespeare bit was inspired by two boys sitting near me in the library who were reading passages of poetry to each other and it was so cute i wanted to die.

but i hope you enjoy! let me know what you think!

Magnus had put a record on and the music was blasting through the entire loft as they both shuffled around, finding places for Alec’s things. It kind of annoyed Magnus that all the boy had brought over was books and clothes. Maybe it was all he really owned, but that thought worried Magnus so he decided it wasn’t true, surely not.

Opening up another box, Magnus beamed, picking up one of the 20 photo frames that filled it. It was a photo of Alec, Izzy, Jace, and very young looking Max. He must have only been around one in the photo and the sight of young Alec, smiling widely as he held Max, warmed Magnus’ heart.

“Where do you want to put this?” asked Magnus, holding up the photo for Alec to see from the other side of the loft. He watched in amusement as Alec squinted to make out the photo. Eventually, he just walked over, a pile of books in his arms, and leaned over to glance at the photo.

“Oh, you don’t have to make space for that,” he replied, dismissively. Magnus frowned and looked at his boyfriend strangely.

“Oh, come on…” he said. “It can go in the study.”

“The what?” asked Alec in confusion. Magnus gestured a finger towards him and Alec placed the books he was holding down before following behind Magnus. Magnus waltzed into the guest bedroom which had now been refurbished into a study.

“This is my side,” said Magnus as he pointed to a desk on the left side of the room. Then he pointed to the right. “And this is yours… For when you need to bring paperwork home.”

“Magnus… You didn’t have to do that. I was fine with the desk at the Institute,” said Alec. He really couldn’t understand why Magnus would go out of this way to make space for Alec. He was fine with adjusting to Magnus’ ways.

“Can you shut up?” said Magnus, slapping a hand against Alec’s chest. Magnus took a step towards Alec and placed his hands on the waistband of his jeans. “You live here now and you deserve your own space.” Magnus leaned up slightly to press a chaste kiss to Alec’s cheek and Alec blushed furiously.

“Fine,” sighed Alec. “Thank you.” Magnus only smiled back.

“Now come on. We need to get your books organised. I’ll be honest, I would not have guessed you – of all people – to rival my literary collection.” Magnus smirked, pulling on Alec’s hand and leading him back into the living room.

Alec groaned in frustration, rolling his head back. “I’ve been sorting books for an hour!”. Magnus threw his head back in a laugh.

“We’ll swap. I’ll sort books, you sort your clothes.”

“Okay. But some of those might by Aldertree’s. He never properly cleared out his stuff and I just brought everything here,” Alec said, lingering behind Magnus and dreading having to go sort out his wardrobe.

Magnus scoffed. “Is that your way of telling me not to judge your taste?”

Alec smiled. “Yeah, right. But I have impeccable taste, I’ll have you know.”

Magnus raised an eyebrow. “We’ll see about that,” he said and turned back to the pile of books in front of him.

He shoved Alec softly in the direction of the bedroom where his clothes currently lay in a pile. Alec groaned once more but began to trudge towards the bedroom anyway.

Magnus picked up the first book in the pile in excitement. “Oh! Othello was always my favourite,” he said and Alec paused, turning back to look at his boyfriend.

“Favourite quote, go,” he said, pointing at Magnus.

Magnus thought about it for a second and looked at Alec. “Tis in ourselves that we are thus or thus. Our bodies are our gardens, to the which our wills are gardeners,” he said and Alec nodded in appreciation. “Yours?” asked Magnus, quietly.

Alec smiled and walked back towards Magnus. He stood close but not close enough to soothe Magnus’ racing heart in that moment. Alec closed his eyes for a second but opened them again, gazing elsewhere. “She had her eyes wide open when she chose me.” Magnus looked at him with a soft smile, admiring the way the boy drifted into his own world for just a second in this chaotic world. Alec looked back at Magnus and rolled his eyes. “Or he…” he joked and Magnus chuckled.

Alec couldn’t help but grin at the sound of Magnus’ laughter. He did it more often than Alec, but it never got old. Magnus placed the book onto the shelf next to the rest of this Shakespeare collection. Alec looked down at the next book in Magnus’ hand and gasped.

“Oh, Ginsberg! I forgot I had this.” Magnus made an unpleasant noise and handed the book to Alec rather quickly to which he frowned.

“Why?” asked Alec with a chuckle, leaning in to peck Magnus on the lips. “Did you know him?” he asked, brushing a small strand of hair out of Magnus’ eyes and kissing him again.

“Tried to,” replied Magnus, leaning to peck Alec. “But Camille saw an end to that.” He scoffed. “Beside he w-”

“Actually, no,” interrupted Alec, resting his hand on Magnus’ chest. “You are not going to ruin one of my favourite poets for me.”

Magnus laughed again and Alec smiled before moving his hand to Magnus’ cheek. He stroked it tenderly and leaned in ever so carefully to kiss him sweetly and Magnus wanted to drop everything he was holding to continue kissing Alec then.

But he knew that if he did, Alec would never completely move in.
