listen this is probably one of my favorite songs ever

anonymous asked:

what do u think of bon appetit

ummmm if u want the real tea as of right now i’ve tried listening to it on repeat but it’s one of my least favorite singles by her ever… lol :)

i think chained to the rhythm set the bar at a place where i thought she was going to go deeper with her lyrics for this album which is probably an unreasonable expectation given who she is as a person but i feel like bon appetit is in a weird place where it’s cheeky with sexual innuendos but it’s not all that fun (the way that california gurls or birthday are fun). i guess the songs that would be closer stylistically are e.t. or dark horse but i don’t feel like it measures up compared to them, especially production-wise.

maybe the music video will change my mind but i’m not impressed atm. 4/10 katheryn

Daveed’s, Jonathan’s, and Will’s music is beautiful so please go check that out!

So I’m going to list my favorite one’s

First is ‘Tonight’ by Clipping It is about sex pretty much, but Daveed is to handsome to not listen to

Second ‘Back up’ by Clipping It’s just has the best hook ever and others in the song really make it great.

Then ‘Story’ by Clipping. Their story series is the best thing you will come by, each one of them is it’s own story, but this one interests me more. I highly recommend

Forth is probably ‘Dominoes’ by Clipping because I just love how much it sounds like a huge concert. I don’t really know how to explain other than it’s wonderful.

and last but not least, 'Air 'em out.’ By Clipping It is one of their more popular songs. I would say 'Work Work’ by Clipping but this song is easier to rap along with. I find myself singing this daily.

And there’s a video of him explaining the meaning, and he said “and they just don’t have anyone who loves them enough”. And I don’t want you guys to EVER feel like that, because I do. I love you all. If you EVER need help. Please message me. Please just talk to me.

anonymous asked:

what are some of your favorite numbers from musicals?

OH MAN. I’m going to try and break it down by musical, so I’m not so overwhelming. Otherwise we could be here forever. I’m also only going to do musicals that I’ve seen in the theater. Here we go:

  • Les Misérables: “On My Own.” I’ve spent my entire life singing this song, I’ve known the lyrics by heart since I was six. While I have all the musical memorized, I’ve never been able to shake the long standing effect of this song. I grew up wanting to be Éponine, not Cosette (read into that what you will). There are other, bigger numbers, like “One Day More,” “I Dreamed a Dream,” or personal favorite “In My Life,” but I can’t drop the raw emotion of this number.
  • Wicked: “Defying Gravity.” This one is for the physical number, more than the song. Gay anthem “For Good” makes me cry, “As Long as You’re Mine” is probably the sexiest song ever put on broadway, I can sing “Dancing Through Life” for fucking ever, and honestly “The Wizard and I” is the one I’ve listened to the most (I sing it loudly in my car a lot. That song has BUILD). I even have some serious feelings about “Thank Goodness.” But in the theater, and I’ve seen Wicked maybe five times now, it knocks you out every single time. It’s the best of Chenoweth and Menzel. And when they lift her in the air…you can’t beat it. This is THE intermission break.
  • Spring Awakening: “Touch Me.” Man, this is a hard choice. One of my favorite musicals because all of the songs sparkle, and some especially stand out for the blocking on stage. I personally love “My Junk,” “The Bitch of Living,” “The Guilty Ones,” and “Don’t Do Sadness” so fucking much, and that’s just the start. But this one has such a tenderness, and a build, that’s unmatched in musical numbers. The whole song is about orgasming, and it simulates that as well as music can. You can’t really get better.
  • Rent: “La Vie Boheme.” Can I choose every single song? I only picked this one because I learned all of the lyrics when I was 14 and was so incredibly proud of myself. It’s also so fun and specific to this musical when played out in the theater. But I love all of these songs. Second fav is “Take Me or Leave Me.” Surprise favorite is “Goodbye Love” which I will belt like it’s my jam.
  • Hamilton: “Satisfied.” Now this one wasn’t difficult. It was the song I fell in love with when I first listened to the album; it’s the number I first cried to when I saw the musical in New York. I can connect to every single song in this musical, but nothing starts to match the choreography and ingenuity of the Helpless/Satisfied number. I was amazed when I listened to the song, and even more so when I saw it in person. Renée is a national treasure.
  • Next to Normal: “Why Stay/A Promise.” There are so many songs I prefer, like “Superboy and the Invisible Girl,” “I Miss the Mountains,” “Everything Else,” and especially the refrain in “Make Up Your Mind/Catch Me I’m Falling.” But this song, on stage, fucking slays. It brings back so many riffs from the beginning and focuses in on these four people and the parallel between them, reminding you of the point, of what the musical is about. The harmonies are on point and the lyrics manage to accomplish a matching dissonance. Amazing.
  • Anything Goes: “Anything Goes.” I have such a good time watching this musical, but this song honestly has the best hook and it’s incredible to watch. In olden days a glimpse of stocking was looked on as something shocking but now god knows, ANYTHING GOES.
  • Phantom of the Opera: “All I Ask of You.” It’s the only song in the entire musical I can listen to and not get caught up in the abusive implications. I also grew up on this musical, and I think these lyrics may have been my first words. Probably my total favorite song is “Think of Me,” but I’d honestly jam to all of them.
  • In the Heights: “Breathe.” There are some real bangers in this musical, like “96,000″ and “When You’re Home,” but this is the one that stuck with me the longest. That BUILD, the PAUSES…one of the best individual ballads ever to appear on Broadway. Lin never let us down
  • Throughly Modern Millie: “Only in New York.” I love all of these songs, and there are certainly more exciting ones. But this one is a ballad if I’ve ever seen one. I sing it all the time in the shower.
  • Mamma Mia: “Does Your Mother Know.” Who doesn’t love ABBA, but my favorite number to watch is this one. My favorite song is probably “Lay All Your Love on Me,” or “The Winner Takes it All,” but this one is so much fun, and every time I see the musical the interpretation is different.
  • Fun Home: “Ring of Keys.” This number manages to capture the feeling of the graphic novel in a way that none of the other songs do. A kid sings it, and it fucking rocks.
  • West Side Story: “America.” Obviously. If you have a different fav, you’re wrong.
  • Sweeney Todd: “Johanna.” In a lot of ways, I hate Sondheim’s musicals. But this song burrows its way into my brain and never lets go
  • The King and I: “Shall We Dance?” This is clearly the best number, especially because the last time I saw this musical the set kept moving while they danced, and she was in that GIANT DRESS, it was so impressive. But my favorite song is “Something Wonderful.”
  • Cabaret: “Maybe This Time.” We can all agree. I do a great 20′s style version of this song when I’m drunk.
  • Once: “Falling Slowly.” The only reason to watch this musical.
  • Legally Blonde: “Chip on My Shoulder.” I truly love so many riffs and individual lines in this musical (the break down in “Serious” which I once sang with a boy who was in love with me go figure, “girls like you always get to see Ireland,” the either side of the door harmony in “Legally Blonde” that fucks with my already dark childhood Luke Wilson complex. But this number is so much fun, and even through the mansplaining, the hook is great.
  • Shrek the Musical: “I Know It’s Today.” This musical never needed to happen, but this is such a great and overlooked number. The harmony and switch off between the three Fionas is so well orchestrated. Plus that refrain…’ll get stuck in your head for a month.

Honestly I’ve seen a lot more musicals, but I didn’t want to pick a specific song from them.

anyway the sex scene in The Watchmen is probably the single worst cinematic scene I have ever viewed I was literally unable to listen to Hallelujah for two years after that movie came out even though it had been one of my favorite songs

replied to your

Have you ever heard the song “I of the Storm” by…

They’re easily in my top 3 favorite bands! Likewise, the song “Crystals” from that same album makes me think of Ruby and Sapphire.

gosh, me too! They probably are my #1 favorite band at the moment (Beneath the Skin is one of the only albums that I listen to entirely without skipping a song) and that might be why I associate so many of their songs with SU (since that’s my #1 favorite show so I’m always thinking about it) but also so many of the songs seem to fit so well!

I can definitely see that with Crystals, I’ve always really strongly associated that song with Fusion. In fact, I’ve been wanting to do a music video for it about Fusion, but I’m waiting for Steven to fuse with Garnet and Pearl first (ideally, I’d like to also see the Rose Fusions with Garnet and Amethyst too, but I can work it without those)

I associate almost every song on the album with something SU related:

  • Crystals - Fusion (specifically Fusion among the Crystal Gems)
  • Human - Rose, particularly Rose becoming Steven
  • Hunger - Pearl, regarding her feelings for Rose (specifically after Rose is gone)
  • Wolves Without Teeth - Ruby and Sapphire (this song can be taken negatively I think, but I interpret it in the positive sense)
  • Empire - nothing in particular, I just really love the “Heavy stones fear no weather” line for the Crystal Gems
  • Slow Life - Malachite/Lapis and Jasper, mostly for lines like “You caught me in the tide / And I caught you”
  • Black Water - Lapis. This is THE Lapis song to me, I want to make a music video of it
  • I of the Storm - Rose, of course

My name is Hattie, I’m 28, and I live in New Orleans.

I started Old Loves in 2011 during a time when I was feeling particularly lovelorn and miserable. Researching beautifully odd love affairs that burned bright, but later ended and in some cases were totally forgotten felt therapeutic the way listening to a torch song would. Even though, at the time, I assumed it was a bit of a niche interest, and nobody would ever see it but me, working on posts for Old Loves became the highlight of my weepy evenings, probably because it combined two of my primary interests: cultural history and other people’s business.

Since then, I’ve been completely overwhelmed by the responses from people who share my fascination with tidbits concerning failed romance. It continues to be one of my all-time favorite projects and I hope I get to poke around and discover forgotten relationship gems for many weepy years to come.

Thank you to everyone who has ever sent me a message, talked about, or written anything about liking this blog, you are all dream boats and it’s meant more to me than I could possibly put into words, so here is a picture of Bill Murray and Gilda Radner dancing on Valentines day. <3 <3 <3 Hattie

OOH let’s see, well every year on my birthday all I ever ask for is this one Indian dish called palak paneer (spinach and cottage cheese cubes together) which is eaten with roti (kind of like flatbread or pita?). Then the next would be funnel cakes!!! Love them so much! And yeah even though I absolutely adore chocolate and would probably live off it if I could, it’s only #3 on my list in the form of chocolate lava cake!! Like a properly made one with tempered chocolate omg its so good sobs!!!

So I know you love Ed sheeran, & I've never listened to him. So if you had to suggest one song for me to listen to, what would it be?

This is possibly the hardest ask I’ve ever received. One song, how do I pick one? There’s so many shades of Ed that I don’t know how to pick just one you’ll like.

So to be cliche “Lego House” would probably be my suggestion if you only want one. It’s very pop, but I love the lyrics. All of Ed’s lyrics are either witty genius or swoon worthy.

My favorite song personally is “Cold Coffee” but it is much less popular. Very raw, and as a single girl who hates coffee I like to feel like it’s for me. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

If you want something lyrically complex and clever try “You Need Me, I Don’t Need You.” There’s a ton of different recordings so just pick one. Ed does everything though, “Make it Rain” is very bluesy, he’s done work on rap with Yellawolf, JME, and Devlin, as well as some clever work on his own.

He’s so much more complex than just those beginning songs like A-Team and Lego House that really put him on most people’s radars. I prefer his more original old acoustic stuff, but his new songs on the Divided album are fun to listen to as well. (Also I know you train a lot, I listen to “Nightmares” when I run.) I don’t know what your speed is, so go give a listen to “Lego House” or any of these others if you want to and please let me know what you think. Also if you have a specific genre preference I’m sure I can find something he’s done that you’ll like. I’m only a tad bit of a fanatic if you can’t tell 😂 I just have a ton of respect for him and his work. He does a lot of work with charity and the less fortunate, and he’s got such a big heart on top of being talented. Sorry if I got carried away, he’s just my actual favorite.

Hibiscus tea. (Like you're surprised.)

I’m just shocked.  So shocked. ;)

16. Hibiscus tea: What is a song you can always hear?

- This is harder than it looks because sometimes I don’t feel like listening to songs that I know are some of my all time favorites.  It’s just a matter of the mood, you know?

Two songs that I will stop and listen to when they either come up on the radio or on my iPod are:

- Dreams, by The Cranberries (the band recently recorded a new, acoustic/orchestral variation of the song too for its [year redacted because oh fuck i’m old] recording anniversary which I highly recommend hunting down if you can.

- Church on Sunday, by Green Day.  For me, this is probably one of the most romantic songs I’ve ever heard, which may be more indicative of my skewed view on romance than anything else.  Regardless, I love this song, and it’s nowhere near as popular as it should be.
