Whatever happened to positive Black female role models in the media?
Girls like Laura Winslow (played by Kellie Shanygne Williams; Family Matters) and Lisa Wilkes (played by Nia Long; The Fresh Prince of Bel Air).
One was a straight A student, a cheerleader and got accepted into Harvard, all while maintaining a teeming social life and an excellent relationship with her family. The other refused to be just another girl to a boy that was notorious for his womanizing ways, all whilst maintaining her femininity, allure, sexuality and morals.
Where are the girls like this in modern media?
Scandal is entertaining and all, but Olivia Pope ain’t got jack on these girls.
