When Tarte founder Maureen Kelly created the first Cheek Stain in her one-bedroom apartment in 1999, so began a love affair between women everywhere and the fastest-ever way to flush. “When the Cheek Stains launched, they were so different from any blush on the market. The gel formula in a chubby push-up stick was revolutionary,” says Kelly. “I personally love them most for being so easy-to-use and lasting for a minimum of 12 hours. Tartelettes also love that they are chock-full of healthy super fruits like maracuja, acai, and acerola making them a healthy treat for your skin.”

So there may have been a few panic attacks when the Cheek Stains recently went out of stock to make way for a new, updated version: “It’s the same great formula and amount, but in a more convenient, eco-friendly push-up stick,” explains Kelly. “We also decided that the most iconic product in our line could use a makeover—it’s been fifteen years!”

Each shade, which now matches up to a shade of LipSurgence Power Pigments of the same name, now has a different bold pattern on the packaging. “Each one is like a collector’s item! And you never have to guess which lip color looks great with which blush.” HOLLY SIEGEL

Favorite Crayon-Style Lippies

I am just in love with the crayon-style lip sticks, balms and stains. However, not all products are created equal. They offer the ability for smooth and easy application, and many are very long wearing. However, not all of these  products are created equal. Here are a few of my favorite products…stay tuned for my least favorites…

Elf Matte Lipsticks

The Good-

Long Wearing, good color pay off, tip allows you to get a precise line every time.

The Bad-

One or two of the colors on the lighter end of the spectrum are patchy and settle into creases.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balms

The Good-

Rich and Creamy, Highly Pigmented, True to Color, Beautifully Matte

The Bad-

After a while some of these shades are prone to bleeding a feathering, but that isn’t anything that can’t be handled without a good powder around the lip area or a good lip lock pencil. It really isn’t anything major, and they last pretty long before doing so. I can almost go a full work day without re-application.

Loreal LeMatte and LaLaque Lippies

The Good-

I like the finish on both the Matte and Laque versions. They are both creamy and easy to apply. They go on like a dream.

The Bad-

These are not as long lasting as the Revlon brand. They start getting patchy after a few hours of use and need to be reapplied.

Tarte LipSurgence Matte Lip Tint

The Good-

Overs a great sweep of pigment, has a nice level of minty-ness, and the colors are all so beautiful and neutral Perfect for everyday wear. Pigmentation is great.

The Bad-

I don’t buy that it is a limp plumper or gives the illusion of a fuller lip, and they aren’t as moisturizing as the claim,… but still not bad.

Flower Beauty LipSuede

My current favorite of the bunch. There is no bad with these babies these are all good in terms of  pigmentation, moisture and long wearing properties.

acidhugs  asked:

How do I get my lipstick to stop looking so dry on my lips? bc it always shows the cracks on my lips and doesn't look good:/

I feel you girl!

My lips are almost always dry and lipstick never looks flattering. What I like to do is exfoliate my lips with a toothbrush or lip scrub before bed and use a nourishing good lip balm (I love Jack Black’s Lip Balm) after and I wake up with baby soft, super moisturized lips! This will help any lipstick look better through out the day since the lips are properly exfoliated and moisturized.

I also like to stick with moisturizing, balm type lipsticks. Any lipstick too matte and thick will cake up and look dry on the lips and settle in the cracks and lip lines. If you do want to rock matte lips just make sure to exfoliate/moisturize the night before and use a lip brush to sheer out the lipstick because you want a thin layer to prevent the lipstick from drying out the lips.

Try some light weight, moisturizing lipsticks like

  • Maybelline Color Whisper Lipsticks
  • Fresh Sugar Tinted Lip Treatments (makes many shades, very pigmented!)
  • Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tints (moisturizing balm stains)
  • Revlon Kissable Balm Stains
  • YSL Volupte Sheer Candy Glossy Balms

Again, go for more moisturizing lip sticks, invest in a nourishing lip balm and apply lipstick in thin, even layers to prevent lipstick from caking up. These are my top tips! Good luck! Xo
