YSL Volupte Tint-In-Oil Review

WORTH THE HYPE: YSL Volupte Tint-In-Oil: I’d say that I have a confession to make, but by now you’ve probably already heard it. I am prone to seriously dry lips. Seriously dry. Many many years ago I had the displeasure of lips so dry they were flaking, peeling, cracking and even bleeding, resulting in a trip to the doctors’ office. Although my dry lip condition has since improved, I’m still prone to dryness… This is why I love lip oils.

One of the very first lip oils I tried was the YSL Volupté  Tint in Oil and it’s still one of my favourites to this day.

Elizabeth Arden Untold Color Collection

Elizabeth Arden has launched a limited edition color collection inspired by the Untold fragrance franchise.

I received a few of the items for review, and I’ve swatched them here for you!

I have to say I don’t know why I haven’t tried the Arden eyeshadows until now. I’ve always used their skincare products (8 Hour Cream and Ceramide Capsules, etc) but not really their makeup. And I feel kinda silly now cos these shadows are fantastic.

They are very smooth, very buildable, very easy to blend, and beautifully pigmented.

There are 2 quads in the collection. Chic Browns, and Posh Purples.

The 2 lipglosses in the collection are gorgeous as well; gold and violet. I haven’t tried the gold but the purple 16 Intriguing Violet is a lovely sparkly shade. It looks very dramatic in the tube, but you know glosses. They go on a lot sheerer most of the time. Intriguing Violet is more pink than purple once applied on the lips, but at certain angles it does shift slightly violet. The sparkles shift from gold to blue. VERY dimensional.

Tanya Burr lip glosses review

Okay, so I’m a big fan of thetanyaburr, so was very excited to hear that she was collaborating with Eye Candy to release a lip and nail line. They have just come into store in superdrug and are available online too.

First things first I picked up Afternoon Tea along with a nail varnish (which I’ll review soon). Afternoon Tea is a pinky nude, but a bit too pink to be a complete nude. Its great for everyday colour for someone who wants to step away from nude. I also picked up the shade Chic, which zoella wore in a recent video. This is a dark nude, which is great for a summer no make up make up day. I think this may become my day to day go to colour.

The formula is smooth and thick, so it has a high amount of pigment for a lipgloss (think Rimmel Apocolips). It goes on quite easily, however I found that Afternoon Tea seemed to gather until I pushed it into my lips. I want to try a more colourful colour to see if its the same. For a lipgloss I find it quite long lasting, however it does dissolve over time and if you eat/drink. The smell is utterly gorgeous, almost like strawberries, which adds to the application. I find it can be slightly sticky when it comes to hair, but I can honestly live with that.

The applicator is really good, the product is on both sides. Its a flat applicator so you can just put it in-between your lips and move it back and forth. The handle is a reasonable size so you can easily use it.

I love the packaging, its compact enough to be put in a clutch. Yet it has a large amount of product and can be found in a big bag quickly.

They are priced at £6.99, compared to the rest of the high street options it is about the middle of the road. I will definitely be getting more and trying the different colours as they are some of my favourite lipgloss available.

My two lipglosses came!!
I got “Picnic in the Park” and “Exotic Island”.
The packaging they came in was nice and small - no massive box or fuss - which was good. The mailman was able to just leave it in my mailbox instead of having me sign at the door for it.
The actual packaging of the products is really nice and simple - but I didn’t like that I had to rip Tanya’s face to get the lipgloss out :(
The actual package came very quickly. I ordered it on the 1st of Feb and it arrived here on the 11th of Feb. That’s only 10 days for international shipping that was free!! Amazing.
The smell of them is really lovely - they smell like frosty fruits icy poles (if you’re from Australia, you’ll know)
The colours are very pretty, however I expected Exotic Island to be more purple than it is. It’s more of a Hot Fuschia Pink - which is still pretty.
I haven’t tested them yet, but I’ll keep you updated when I do :)
Overall, I’m so impressed and happy for Tanya that she was able to create something she is so proud of, for so cheap, and at such a high quality. Big love xx

Lancôme Lip Lover! A New Love And The Epic 18-Swatch Post

Lancôme’s new lip-treatment slash plumping lip-gloss, aptly called Lip Lover, finally hits Singapore, and aren’t the shades just glorious? The best thing is these don’t feel like typical sticky glosses that look shiny but feel drying on the lips.

And my lips are testament to their conditioning properties because usually by the 4th or 5th lip swatch, they’re all parched and wrinkly-looking and by the end of the night they’ll be all raw and painful. I managed to hang on through 18 consecutive swatches (ouch), and they were going numb towards the end, but looked perfectly smooth even after the product was removed LOL.

Pros:

  • Non-sticky
  • Lip-balm texture with 1/3 emollients to provide lip-care properties
  • More pigmented than typical glosses
  • 18 gorgeous plumping shades from nudes to brights to deeps, available in Singapore, and it was hard to pick out faves below
  • Can be applied sheer or built up for lacquer like shine
  • Super easy-to-use applicator that doesn’t deposit too much or too little product

Cons:

  • Pricey (SGD40 per tube)
  • Very lightweight and balm-like so lasting power is as you’d expect; you might reapply more and run out of product quicker than with a sticky gloss
  • Some of the paler and darker shimmery shades have pigments that will settle into lines, but that’s mostly only visible on camera in hi-res with bright lamp light, and not very obvious in real life
  • A couple of the fuchsias look slightly similar to one another

My favorite colors?

Soft shades

  • 316 Rose Attrape-Cœur - a soft pinky beige shimmer that’s one of Lancome’s recommended “it shades”
  • 320 Ambre Arabesque - soft coral-beige shimmer
  • 321 Rose Contre-temps - perfect My Lips But Better shade

Brighter shades

  • 336 Orange Manège - bright pink coral
  • 337 Lip Lover - the namesake of the collection is a soft neutral rosy shade with a magenta pink shift

Stronger shades

  • 355 Framboise Etoile - slightly sparkly deep fuchsia
  • 353 Rose Gracieuse - not quite red, not quite rose, not quite coral

In Singapore, Lancôme Lip Lover will only be available at Sephora from 1 - 14 May, before it reaches other counters island-wide from 15th onwards. My recommendation is to try these on the lips instead of just looking at the tube or swatching on the hand. These have varying degrees of translucency and many have multi-dimensional pigments so just looking at it in the tube is not going to be accurate.

WORTH THE HYPE: Dior Addict Fluid Stick

Lipstick gloss/lacquer/stain hybrids are all the rage right now and I’ve tried my fair share of different formulas and can say that the Dior Addict Fluid Sticks do not disappoint. Aside from the beautiful, sleek packaging the applicator is a perfect doe-foot which allows you to get a tapered edge around the mouth and apply just the right amount of product. Packaging aside, these have quickly become one of my favourite lipstick/gloss hybrids. They have the perfect combination of shine so that lips look healthy and plump and the ideal amount of pigmentation so colour pay off is intense. If dry lips are an issue than chances are you’ll love these, they feel silky and comfortable on the lips and aren’t the slightest bit drying, they’re also very forgiving so if you have any flakiness or deep lip lines these won’t accentuate them. In terms of staying power the colour and shine does fade after a few hours, but they also leave a slight stain on the lips. Overall I really love these and am itching to try more shades, this is not a lipstick, it’s a lip hybrid at its finest.

OVER HYPED: OCC Lip Tar

OCC were one of the first brands to start the lip lacquer not a gloss/not a lipstick/not a stain phase in lip products and now just about every brand you can think of is doing their own variations. If you’ve ever read anything about makeup you’d know the OCC Lip Tars get a lot of a hype and quite frankly I can’t quite understand why. No matter how little or much product I use and no matter what technique or tool I use to apply them they bleed, feather, smudge,  smear, don’t last long, dry out and irritate my lips, accentuate flakiness, apply unevenly, fade unevenly, have an overpowering smell and the packaging has a tendency to leak everywhere. I have tried many shades from dark to light and bright thinking certain shades just may work better than others but the result is always the same and I always remember why I don’t like them. I think these are a major disappointment and I’m annoyed I wasted so much money on them. I much prefer products like YSL Glossy Stains, Maybelline Color Elixirs and Klara Cosmetics Kiss Proof Lips.
