Their first kiss was definitely enlightening. Turns out
something in the chapstick Ryder used caused a minor allergic
reaction in Jaal. It didn’t start right away, they kissed, and then
laid back to look at the galaxy. They kissed again before going back
out into the common area.
They sat down to eat, Ryder, politely as possible,
asking what was in the alien stew he was about to eat. He glanced
over at Jaal and started. Jaal’s lips were a pale white and bumpy,
and apparently, itched. Under normal circumstances, he would
have cried laughing. Jaal looked like he just ate a powdered
doughnut, and it was about as precious as the Pathfinder could stand. Before he could
catch Jaal’s eye and motion to the other room, one of the mothers had
Jaal by the chin.
“What is this?” She rubbed the pad of her thumb
against his lip. Ryder felt like the ground could probably open up
and swallow him whole. Everyone was looking now, and one of his
siblings held up a reflective glass. Jaal stared at his
reflection. And then he looked up at Ryder.
“What is that silky stuff you wear on your lips?”
“Lip balm?” Ryder’s ears must have been
beet red and he resisted the urge to slouch in his chair.
“What’s in it?”
“uhhh… peppermint oil, beeswax…?”
“I think I’m allergic to it.”
Sahuna stood nearby and glanced from Jaal to Ryder and back again. Ryder was having flashbacks to when he came out to
The moment snapped back as Sahuna gave Ryder a bight, beautiful smile.
“So he finally asked you?”
“Finally!” A cousin to the his right shouted.
“Stars, all he does is talk about you. I’m
surprised it took him this long.” Someone else said, going back to
their food with a shrug. The dining room hummed with the news and Jaal smiled almost shyly at Ryder from across the table. Ryder could definitely tell Jaal was blushing now.
Beautiful faces are not necessarily those which have had make up and foundation placed upon them after sitting down for hours trying to get it right in order to hide the blemishes. Beautiful faces are those which are placed down in prostration out of humility and awe for the Great One. Beautiful faces are ones that are illuminated through the water of wudhu in the middle of the night and decorated by the light of loving the Messenger. Beautiful lips are not always attained through lip gloss and lip stick. They are attained through the remembrance of Allah and through us practising the Muhammadan Smile ﷺ when life is tough and you feel like giving up. Beautiful eyes are not always achieved through mascara and the lengthening of eye lashes. Beautiful eyes are achieved through repentance and saying sorry all alone whilst the world sleep. They are achieved through us weeping in the love of Madinah and through us constantly yearning for the Custodian of the Green Dome. Beautiful bodies are not always attained through desiring superficial bodies like those we see on TV. Beautiful bodies are attained through standing, bowing, sitting and praying like we saw in the Tayba of the Beloved.
Start back being more active if you haven’t been during the summer. Not only is it healthy and will keep you fit, but it will also help you prepare for P.E if you have that as a class
Keep hydrating (as always)
Start back going to bed and waking up earlier so when school starts you won’t be too tired
Get back into your school routines for morning and evening. Things like homework you can substitute with reading for the time being
Make a list of your goals for the school year
If you don’t have to wear a uniform go shopping for new clothes
Look for style inspiration to help you buy clothing that can be styled a number of ways
For uniforms by items to accessories with such as shoes, jewelry, scarves, hair accessories, and jackets
If you’re into makeup but a new lip gloss/stick, eye shadow palette etc
Make sure you have all your school supplies and extra’s of certain stuff in case you run out during the year
Handbags are cute but BACKPACKS are better! Not only are they better for your back there are lots of different style and prints you can get to suit your style.
However don’t be afraid to have a nice handbag (that will hold all your) for those days you know you look fabulous
Organise your room/desk/study area so it’s clean, tidy and you know where to find stuff
Start using a planner or bullet journal to keep track of to-do’s and more
Fill your calendar with important dates so you know when there’s no school, early dismissals and more (you can usually find this stuff on the school website)
Redecorate/rearrange your room for a fresh look for a new school year
In the time leading up to the first day, get the following done (if it’s something you do regularly or want to get done):
Nails and Toes done
The day before school starts, give yourself a spa day… do a face mask, take a bubble bath, and anything else that will help you relax
Get enough sleep that night
Things To Remember During The Year
Take care of your self because school can be stressful. While it’s important to do your best and get good grades, it’s also equally important to not let your school work consume your life, take breaks and remember to relax
Keep out of drama
Try to remain positive even when things get tough
Be yourself and don’t try to impress irrelevant people

Red Lipstick can be extremely scary and daunting for some people, but it shouldn’t be. As was once said “Give a woman the right lipstick and she can conquer the world” For me, I feel a hundred times more confident and powerful when I have a bold shade of red on my lips.
If you were to look into my makeup collection you’d notice many things, firstly that I have way too much makeup for one person and secondly that there’s a big pattern with my lip products: red, red, red, red, red.
