rocky dennis was born december 4, 1961 in california, at the age of 2 he was diagnose with craniodiaphyseal dysplasia, an extremely rare, disfiguring bone condition more commonly known as lionitis. the extremely rare disease occur in approximately 1 in every 22 million births, with fewer than 20 recorded cases. it is a bone disorder that causes calcium to build up in the skull, disfiguring the facial features and reducing life expectancy.

his conditions would cause his face to disfigure, making his eyes grow apart to the side of his head, twist his nose out of shape, interfering with his eyesight and hearing and causing painful headache throughout his life.

doctors told his mother that there was no hope for him. throughout his life, rocky dennis experienced problems with eyesight and hearing along with painful headache. despite these set back, instead of giving up on life and throw in the towels, rocky was determine to make the most out of his life. due to his poor eyesight, doctors and teachers told him that he would never read. although he had a slow start, spending 2 years in first grade, he eventually learned how to read and was able to make excellent progress thereafter.

rocky died at the age of 16 and donated his body to the ucla medical center.
