Sometimes I forget there is actually a canon version of Ela too, but look, there she is! :D

ALSo I spent like six hours on painting and rendering this one, for the purpose of comparing it to my absolute first painting of Ela I ever did, which was in January this year

That feels like a really long time but it isn’t really that long, but I can confidently say I’ve improved loads (I almost didn’t want to link it because I cringe when i look at it. It was a painful journey to go back and get it. Like even the caption I cringe at help me)

Attention Society6 Sellers-- UPDATED!

UPDATE! The amazing detective @bluecamellia suggested that it might have something to do with the addition tumblr made a while back to settings involving ‘Affiliate Links’ so I went to my tumblr account settings and turned it (Affiliate Links) off, and tested it out and it looks like thats what was changing all the store links! 

It says that if you put your own affiliate links in, it was supposed to leave your links alone. I tested it yesterday and it did not appear to leave my affiliate link alone and still tacked on that random account info. 

SO if you are a Society6 Curator, or have a store on Society6 (or many of the other common marketplace sites it seems might be connected to this), and you are still having a problem with your affiliate link or store link being affected, go into your Tumblr Settings, and TURN OFF the Affiliate Links switch. Here’s a screenshot:

ALSO– Do note that if this is an issue for your links, you will need to turn this setting off for every tumblr blog you have where the links are a problem. For example: If I have a main blog, and an art blog, and I post my affiliate/store links on both, I need to turn this setting off if it’s still affecting my affiliate links negatively. 

WHEW!! I was super worried some crazy stuff was going on! Thank you to @bluecamellia for being an amazing person and figuring this out! You rock!

Hi! Yesterday I noticed a major issue when I clicked on my own store Link that I posted on my tumblr blog. 

I posted my natural link which is:

When I made my post and clicked the link, tumblr’s formatting reformats the link to now re-direct to my store but tacks on someone ELSE’S referral. After it redirects, I click on the URL bar in my browser and the url now reads:

What does this mean? This means that someone who owns the account MattVigLink (which DOES exist on Society6) gets the credit for my link referral. This means that this person’s account gets money. MONEY. Actual money for my hard work. My art. My link posting, and my promotional work. Every sale I make, THEY GET MONEY FOR IT. NOT COOL!!

I don’t know who did it, but I found that it effects other links posted on other seller’s tumblr blogs too. Try it out for yourself. Find a store post on tumblr and click on the link and sure enough, you will most likely find that “curator=mattvlink” has been tacked on to the end of that URL. 

Here’s what I saw:

I made sure to use the correct URL for my Society 6 Shop. I save the post and it goes up on my tumblr blog.

I hover over the link while viewing my tumblr post, and it throws a long redirect link into the preview box. 

I click it and there it is! What the hell– my store is now giving sales credits to this person’s account!

I don’t know if it’s someone who works for tumblr, or some other shady person who is trying to make money off the Society6 Curator referral system but IT SUCKS. 

I have reported this to both tumblr and Society6 and provided screenshots. I thought it was a glitch and I went back and re-did my links several times and EVERY SINGLE TIME it gets re-coded by tumblr when you click the link, and it transfers you to the intended store and automatically tacks on “curator=mattviglink” to your url. 

Fuck that shit. If you are a Society6 Seller who has this same issue, PLEASE Report it to both Tumblr and Society6. Let them know that your links are ending up giving credit to someone else’s account. It’s definitely not supposed to do that, and it’s abuse of the curator system at Society6.

Update: Don’t get me wrong– I love you Tumblr and @staff and I hope this is something that can be fixed. Tumblr is my favorite social media platform and I really really hope this is something that can be fixed/turned off. I also hope it’s something that has not been going on for very long! I <3 Tumblr!

Turian Articulatory Phonetics

After writing that fanfic (here) I have been thinking about alien vocal systems. And the main problem with turian is that their mouths are weird. The lack of lips make it anything resembling a labial sound is impossible, but also there seems to he holes in their cheeks where their flappy mandible bits are, which would mean that all coronal stops are not possible, because airflow can not be stopped at the front of the mouth. 

So, that means that all of the airflow stopping and most of the restriction must happen further back in the mouth, which limits the amount of phonemes possible, if we assume that the throat area and tongue is anything like humans (Which frankly is a big assumption but whatever). So if we say they can only make phonemes that are velar and back then that leaves only 18 pulmonic consonants. And like, that is not that many. It is enough for an individual language but if we assume that turians have as much linguistic diversity as humans, then it is not that much. (I feel like they would probably also have some non-pulmonic consonants as well.)

Then I remembered an important point. Turians have two sets of vocal cords. And that is important because it greatly increases the phonemic inventory. So, humans have only a small amount of kinds of phonation but turians could have those (or others) but also mix and match them. Like, have one larynx breathy and the other creaky. And one voiced and the other voiceless forming a “semi-voiced” form. 

So my idea is that any particular turian language would have a very small amount of consonants (something like 2 stops, 3 fricatives and a nasal) but a lot different forms of phonation, which increases their phonemic inventory to a more reasonable amount. (This is assuming, of course, that their brains process language in any way similar to humans, which they probably wouldn’t but that is a whole other can of worms that I am not going to focus on.)

As for vowels, they would obviously not be able to make a round/unround distinction but I think there may be a distinction in spread or tight mandibles. 

So there is my unnecessary ramble about the articulatory systems of fictional aliens. This is not terribly well thought out so if any other fictional alien linguist out there have any modifications to my theory, feel free.

Ryz studied her fist, zigzagged with lines, and contemplated the impression it would make if it were to collide with Zum’s face. That face was smirking now, hearing the thought as well as seeing the visuals loud and clear. Being part of a matched pair meant that each received all of their complement’s thoughts, like a live broadcast.
Matched pairs were rare enough, nowadays, after the laws had been passed against binding two individuals in such a manner. A pity, for the process had been a stroke of pure genius. It had been intricate and very, very fragile; a single mistake could have horrifying consequences.
The process involved first acquiring two teenagers of almost exactly the same body structure, and then tracing over their bodies the exact same pattern of lines, tattooed with an ink whose composition was a national secret. The substances contained in the ink had the specific effect of linking the two minds together seamlessly, so that the thoughts flowed both ways. The result would be a set that thought exactly the same way, and had twice the brainpower of a normal person. Doubtless, they would be a very powerful weapon in the right hands.
That was the theory. The reality had some facets to it that no one had imagined. Most of the test subjects died before the tattooing was complete. Only three whole pairs had actually survived. None of them embodied the original concept, but were all, without a doubt, extremely dangerous.
Each matched pair was unique. Each was known to possess one or more of the originally intended features, but not all. Also, every pair had something that made them a danger to mankind in general. Which was why they had been kept under tight scrutiny, separate from the other pairs. Until they had all, suddenly, inexplicably, escaped.
Zum looked up at the sky and grinned. “Almost dark. Just another night of walking, dear sister, and we shall be free to execute our devious plans.”
“Well, dear brother, do you think you can keep from killing me while I sleep this time? The last time you only just managed to control yourself.”
Zum frowned and then grinned. They hardly needed to speak at all. Most of the time, it was just to keep their voices in working condition that they would speak aloud.
A matched pair certainly did have it’s benefits. It meant nonstop travel, for one. The stronger of the pair could carry the other while the latter slept, providing rejuvenation for them both. And sharing brains was what had made their escape a mere cinch. They had not had to talk to make their plans, which had been as elaborately simple as two minds working together could design them to be. And the execution had been just as easy. With both their well-trained bodies moving as one, they were gone before the alarms could sound.
But there were the downsides. The primary annoying feature of their set was that they both hated the other’s guts, hated having to share, wanted to be in control. The only things preventing them from destroying each other were that one, they were too evenly matched on the whole for there to ever be a single winner, and two, if one of them were to die, the other would spiral out of control. It was one of those things that had been intrinsically coded into them with the patterns. They needed each other to survive. Subjects that had lost their partners through the pairing had turned into monstrosities that had to be put down.
But that was not the only thing that had been coded into their brains. There was something bigger, something other that had been an inadvertent by product of the ghastly process itself. Something so sinister, that it had made six people the greatest danger humanity had ever faced. It was what thrummed through their blood now, showing them the way to their destination where all would fall into place.
Ryz leaned her head on her brother’s shoulder, smiling a smile that held the promise of revenge, a smile that was echoed on the face so close to hers. She closed her eyes contentedly.

Woo, I have made my way through another Caffeine Challenge by the extraordinary @caffeinewitchcraft. This one was extremely fun to write, except for the fact that I am hunched over awkwardly to reach my phone and my neck hurts.
