like zoo

a sloth bear appreciation post.

What kind of pets do you think the SVU kids would have?

The Amaro kids have a dog. A scrappy mutt named Princess. You and Nick had never allowed the kids to have pets besides fishes and hermit crabs, until one day 10 year old Wyatt brings home a stray he found. Nick agrees to keep the dog in the house until the owner responds to the Found Dog signs that he made Wyatt hang up, but when no owners came forward, the dog stayed. The dog, a boy, is named Princess because you allowed 4 year old Vivienne to choose the name, much to Wyatt’s disdain.

The Barba children have no pets for a long time, Rafael doesn’t think they’re responsible enough. However, when the twins turn 16 he agrees to get a kitten, under the condition that Lucia and Mila care for it. So the twins come home with a small gray kitten named Piper, and Rafael grows to love her.

The Carisi home is like a zoo. Two black labs, Teddy and Bear (Val named them when she was 5), a fat orange cat named Toby, and a rabbit named Sasha. When Theo’s old enough, Sonny agrees to buy him a gecko, much to your disgust.

You know, I’ve always been really confused about what the initial point of Rose Quartz’s were to Pink Diamond/Homeworld. Because, really, if the plan for earth was this:

then what is the point of having a gem who has the ability to create life the way Rose is shown to be able to do? And if every other Quartz type we see is built like a freaking body builder (with the exception of the gems from the Beta kindergarten we see in That Will Be All, but according to Peridot nearly all of the gems there “came out wrong” so…) and have weapons that can be used offensively:

then why have this single type of Quartz who looks soft and approachable and give them a shield as a weapon? Then this bomb came along and…I noticed a couple of things about that zoo. The first thing was these flowers on the door.

Five petalled flowers with what looks like the centre of Rose’s gem upside down in the middle. Does that look familiar? How about now.

These look startlingly similar to the flowers Rose grows on earth. On top of this, we have the room where Yellow and Blue Diamond discuss Pink Diamond’s death. When I watched this I couldn’t help but think it was strange that all of the Rose Quartz’s were here for some reason.

Like, if this room was Pink Diamond’s version of the temple, why are there no other gem types anywhere? Surely she didn’t only bubble Rose Quartz’s in her time alive. And if they were put here…in memory of Pink Diamond or something then someone would’ve had to take the time to move all of these bubble gems to this location.

Unless, they were already there.

Unless, the zoo is where Rose Quartz’s used to work.

The zoo is meant to be calming to humans. A place where they live a life of complacency and safety. Would it not make sense that the gems working there would be approachable to humans should they ever need to go into the enclosure? Would it not make sense that they would be able to grow new wildlife should something happen to the ecosystem in the enclosure? Rose Quartz’s would make the perfect guards for such a place.

At least until one of them decided she liked humans a little too much and didn’t want the planet they came from to be destroyed.

Rose Quartz's purpose and powers

There’s a theory going around that the zoo outpost was originally manned by a bunch of Rose Quartz which explains how Rose fell in love with Humans and Earth and I am 100% on that bandwagon here.
Because if you think about it, all of Rose’s powers are like powers needed to run a zoo in outer space.
Healing. “Long ago, a gem once came through the wall to help a human that was hurts.” Long ago, as in before all the Rose Quartz gems were bubbles away and Holly Blue took control of the zoo in Era 2. It would make sense to give these gems healing powers! What if a human got hurt? A gem wouldn’t know how to treat organic life forms but magic healing powers? Boom! Done! Humans are safe!
Power over plant life. Well the plants in the zoo had to grow somehow right? Gems wouldn’t know how to transfer a seed from Earth and nurture it into a full jungle! And how would they make the life form magic and grow fruit instantaneously? With a gem that could grow magic trees!
Astral Projection. You all saw how badly the Amethysts were at trying to calm down the, as I’ve taken to calling them, zoo-mans and get them back to normal. A gem that could project itself into others minds and see inside them would help control them. A gem like this could also be used to manipulate the original zoo-mans into obeying happily and loving their life. Maybe a precursor to the ‘little voice’ was a literal little voice in their head quietly telling them what to do!
So long story short, Rose’s entire purpose on Homeworld was to babysit humans and all of Steven’s powers are just extreme Human care abilities.

This is all I could think of after seeing Steven in that jacket. >v<-)^

someone on this site about the new SU: The Zoo isn’t a dystopia! They are free of disease, have no concept of negative feelings and seem genuinely happy

my willful ass, hates authority, would punch God:   :)

Okay, but am I the only one who realized how badly the homeworld amethysts were treated? Holly Blue is rude towards them and makes several comments suggesting that amethysts are not viewed in high regards. This was a bit off-putting and surprising to me for one reason alone- the way Peridot passionately describes amethysts back in “Too Far”. The way she gushed on and on to our Amethyst gave me the impression that all Amethysts were considered a big deal. I wonder why there’s such a contrast there?

Deaf Culture PSA

Today I was in Wal-Mart, doing my thing, buying groceries, the usual, when I bump into one of my friends from high school. We’re having a grand ol’ time catching up and whatnot when this lady by the dairy section (across from us) turns and just..stares.

Like, full on, “I’m at the zoo” stare. I catch her eye, smile, wave, whatever, thinking she would move along with her shopping, but it didn’t even faze the woman.

For those of you who don’t know me very well, I was born Deaf, and while I can read lips pretty well, I rely on sign language for most of my communication. My friend went to the same Deaf School as me, and also uses ASL- however, she has a cochlear, and can make out the jist of conversations.

For those of you who are interested in learning or are currently learning sign language, please come up and say hello! We totally understand if you’re a beginner, and would love to help further your skills. That being said, we aren’t a spectacle or a show. We’re normal people, like you, who just use a little different method to communicate. Please don’t stare at us like we’re this oddity, because quite frankly, we’re not.

There are a lot of people who get this, but it amazes me sometimes in this day and age that the Deaf community is treated this way by some. Take some time and study a little about Deaf culture, learn about my community, and remember that even if I can’t hear, I can still see you staring, and I can still feel like a second-class show.

honestly tho 90% of the reason i understand Bakugou so well is because Horikoshi already wrote a character like this in his first manga, Oumagadoki Zoo (which i read years and years ago)

Bakugou is basically just Shishidou

like. seriously. same obsession to win, same extreme pride, same character development into a nicer/friendlier person, same age… hell, they even both cry after they first realize that they’re not invincible and both generally attack with their hands/use spin attacks, and both are determined to beat the strongest character so they can become the strongest

Bakugou is basically just. AU Shishidou

  • Cinder: So, Kai is the man I've been seeing recently.
  • Kai: ...Why are they looking at me like I'm a zoo animal?
  • Thorne: Well, Cinder acts as sort of the dad of the group, so emotionally, this is kind of like being told that you're our new mom.
  • Kai: But you know it's nothing like that, right?
  • Thorne: Absolutely. Do you cook macaroni?
